Quarantine
Dave from Brawl gave me Quarantine's "automatic negative thoughts", after Brawl toured with them in europe. I thought it was just excellant, nice and really heavy but still with catchey bits and even better they had ex-members from Disaffect, who I'd always been a fan of. So after becoming a big fan of the lp, I tryed to bring them over to Ireland, they were meant to play here with Scatha. Everything was going well, until they broke up!, so in the end their friends Scatha played in Cork instead and Brain from Quarantine came over for the visit with them. After Quarantine ex members formed Debris and then after that another great band called Ruin. This interview was done in 1996
So first question, being from East Kilbride, all the bands there seem to know one another, with people being in a few differant bands, Sedition, Dissaffect, Disturbed, P.Flowers, etc? they all seem inter-linked?
Ok, well firstly not all the members of the bands lived E.Kilbride. Only some. Nobody has lived there for about 4-5 years, but because we more so often we use our parents addresses. We've all been
friends for years and yeah, we've all been in each others bands at some stage. Glasgow has a good punk scene, but theres not that many people into playing in bands, so it's been the same 9 or 10 people thats been hanging around for years. It's all quite incestious really.
Anymore plans of a recording, on the way or a tour?
We're supposed to be
recording alVep for a
friend of ours in Glasgow
but we've still got to g-
-et all the songs together
& well...practise.Yeah,
well definitely be touring"
next year(summer'97).We
thought we might try &
sort something out for
America.But if not we'll
be off to achieve European
pomination whether we go | J.
to the states or not.
How did the last European.
tour go? Any mad stories?
The tour was excellant
I had a brilliant time on
y travels & it was cool
to meet up with Brawl,Crdgss on your past & of course Whiteknot(who played
a lot of gigs with us).
Mainland Europe is just
so much better than the
u.k.really organised &
bolitically motivated peo-
ple doing something positi
-ve.I would recommend checking the squattting scene
out to everyone, be they in a band or not.Mad stories happen every single day while you're on tour.
What do you think of green
day & epitaph?What kind of
music do you listen to
yourself?
just ripping everybody off
laughing all the way to
the bank & the kidz are
lapping it up.Ok,I'11 grant you that some of the
music is alright.but thats
all.They don't have a punk
outlook in life as far as
I'm concerned.They're just
rock stars.I've currently been listening to Los Crodos, DropDead, Unhinged, CrossedOut..etc.But,I have been known to spin a few Bjork discs from time to time,
variety is the spice of
life my friend.
Last question,do you want to say any thing to "Protest zine" readership?Do you ever think ye
might play here?
Playing in Ireland would be great.I played with Psycho Flowers in Belfast & Dublin in'89(I think)I had a great time & met "plenty of cool people. So,if we can sort something out we'll come over.Gig organisers get in touch. Well.thanx for the interview Sean & taking an interest in what we're doing. We've got an Lp available for £5 postpaid from our address if anyones interestted.Thats all from Quaranine just now but we'll be back,eh... sometime.Be happy & stay angry.
