This interview was done with Jeremy, Kevin and Andy from American band SanctuM.SanctuM are a great new crust band with echos of early UK crust bands like Bolt Thrower, Hellbastard etc.

1. Could you gave a bit of background on the band,When and how was Sanctum put together?
I think it was in December of '04. Blight (Nick and Jeremy's band) had broken up a few months earlier after their west coast tour, and we decided to start a band. In the beginning Kevin was supposed to play drums, Jeremy was to play bass, and Nick on guitar. While Blight was still together Nick and Andy used to get drunk and talk about starting a band inspired by the first Bolt Thrower LP. We went through a few lineup changes in the first month or two, but in the end it was Kevin on vocals, Jeremy on drums, Nick and Andy on guitar, and Rochelle on bass.

2. Did you release the ep "enslaved" yourselves? Did you find it hard getting distributed?
Yes, it was self-released with some good advice and references from Jersey Mike of Barrage of Salt Records. We did alot of distributing on tour and a few local distros and record stores bought quite a few copies. If anyone is interested in buying one for yourself or a few for wholesale you can reach us at blightcore@yahoo.com or write us at:

3. How did the west coast tour go? Is it easy to gigs locally in Seattle? Any plans to tour further a field?
The tour went well, there were two cancelled shows, and a few shows we wish had been canceled....haha, anyway, we had a blast! Especially in Portland, Phoenix, Oakland and Long Beach. Lots of burritos, new and old friends, cheap beer and cheaper liquor, fake moustaches...and of course . . . brutal hangovers. Our gas-guzzling tour van (it's nickname quickly went from Darth Vader to the Debt Machine) seats five people and we had seven.
Local shows have been a little more difficult lately because of the lack of DIY / all ages venues in Seattle, but we don't have much difficulty getting house shows. As far as furthering the field goes we are planning a Euro tour for next year, and after that who knows?
