Carl Floe read the District Commander's statement on the reorganization of Powell River's Power Squadron.
Discussion
- Boat Pro course for people 16 & under, course possibly conducted through school board, taught by teacher in school, member of power squadron to be the examiner and to give out temporary certificate.
- Businesses such as Marine Trader to sell the books, for $10 with no profit. The student can challenge the exam, coast of exam $20.
- Someone can give a 8 hour course or a 1 day course and have the exam at the end of the course.
- Hebert attended the meeting on Boat Pro.
- Conference of AGM of Power Squadrons will be held on June 4-6 in Cowichan. Anyone who are interested can register. Coast is $50/person. Accommodation extra.
- Dave Fisher commented that we did not get audited last year but he can find someone to do it. Hebert had contacted Michael Smith and he may be available.
- Carl said the main item in this meeting is to set the course for next year.
- Hebert approached several people for potential instructor position.
- Suggestion to obtain list of past instructors and see if they would do it again.
- Boating course has been split into two parts, chapter 1-15 will allow the student to obtain certificate to operate power boat, chapter 16-24 involves navigation and more in-depth boating knowledge.
- New outline won't be available until june,99
- We need rough outline so we can plan for the course.
- Dave Fisher will email the Headquarters in Scarorough to get draft of boating course.

- Hebert arrived late for this meeting
- Hebert had attended the Training Officer Meeting.
- Power Squadron can offer course and supervise the exam, the charge for exam is $20, then will send result and $12 to Headquarters.
- Boat Pro books sells for $10, Power Squadron pays $6.
- Suggestion to promote Boating course when supervising the Boat Pro exams.
- Jack Darling who is the Training Officer offers to supervise exams.
- Dave Fisher suggested that another person other than the Training Officer should take care of the Boat Pro program.
- Jack moved to purchase 30 Boat Pro books and sell them through Marine Trader, Walmart and the hardware store,.
- Hebert to contact the merchants about the sale.
- Dave offered to email Headquarters regarding the purchase of the Boat-Pro books.
- Ginny can go over past training practices with new Training Officers and instructors.
- Advertised boating course in the Malaspina College pamphlet but will have to do it before end of May, need to decide the starting date, 2 nights/week, date of registration.
- Contact person for membership is Carl Floe, Nagi to be the second contact.
- Jack Darling will contact Ginny. re- starting date and cost of course.
- Hebert will contact David Paul, Michael Smith, Tony Smith. regarding instructor positions.
- Cost of course will include lectures and membership for the first year.
- Carl will call Charlie Pryde regarding the cost of CPS membership and the cost of Boating certificate and will let Dave Fisher know.
- Dave Fisher is the contact person for registration of past members.
- New boating exam will be all multiple choices.
- Glen propose to do a mailout campaign to survey ex-member regarding the reactivating of membership and participation in social events such as monthly BBQ, sailing cruises. All those attended agree.
- Next Executive meeting will take place May 11, 7:00pm at Brooks, Carl will speak to Tony to reserve room.
