Many people like to show their support for cancer research by purchasing bracelets and other things such as earrings and ribbons. These are great symbols to show your emotional support for our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters and I would not for a second try to discourage support for cancer research and assistance to people who need it.
There are many people just trying to make a living and some of them have turned to providing bracelets and clothes and other materials for women with breast cancer. Buyers should always ask how much of the money they are paying for any item they buy goes to cancer research and how much is retained by the seller. In many cases we also have found that the prices for various cancer related items are very expensive.
My wife needed a wig and also a hat and jacket she could wear in the summer to protect her from the sun. These items were necessary since she was undergoing chemo and radiation during the summer months. The jacket is a very light weight material that lets the air through to keep you cool but prevents the ultraviolet waves from penetrating and damaging her skin or causing sun stroke. These materials work well, however they are not cheap costing us almost $300 for the jacket and hat. Many people cannot afford these protective garments.
Women and men who are taking chemo as well as radiation will find that they are very susceptible to skin burns and sun stroke if they remain in the sun. Either stay inside or ensure that you are adequately covered.
