Nursing Care

They argued that because he had full-time nursing care for his wife there is no need for him to miss any work. She was going to die anyway and he could leave work if they needed him to go home and settle matters. He objected.

The issue was not the physical care in the nursing care, but the emotional needs of the end someone's life.

They said he was only at work 40 hours a week and he could spend 128 hours per week with her. Edgar was shocked. The company was telling him that he would be at work while his wife could die at home and he could be called when it happened.

 

The stress quadrupled as he considered legal action and just quitting. He was close to retirement. There were many bills and there wasn't much savings.

We arranged a psychiatric consultation for Edgar and confirmed the severe emotional state he was undergoing. This letter was used to get his employer to reconsider. The Company accepted his claim in a supporting his time at home looking after his wife.

Edgar is still valiantly looking after her and even though she is weak and sleeps many hours a day, they are together in this last great adventure.

The moral of this story is always fight for your rights and be you own best advocate and seek help when you just cannot deal with things any longer!
