PRT ROCKS AT VINTAGE FESTIVAL!

INTERLOPERS DOMINATE LABOUR DAY WEEKEND AT LRP

September 4, 2001

Lime Rock, Conn.---  A convincing win in yesterday’s 15-lap Group F sprint race was the perfect cap on the Pettipas Racing Team’s SVRA Vintage Festival weekend, which was the occasion for the team’s first-ever visit to historic Lime Rock Park

Getting back to its roots in vintage racing and taking a busman’s holiday of sorts from their usual Canada GT Challenge Cup schedule, PRT rolled into picturesque Lime Rock Park and made an immediate impression.  Entered in the Group F class (pre-1994 Trans-Am, other Big-Bore historics) and competing against an eclectic field of stout machinery, including a brace of 935 Porsches and several well-driven Winston Cup cars, the venerable Dairy Queen/Synergyn Racing Oil/prtracercars.ca Chevrolet Camaro could be consistently found at the top of the time sheets in practice.

Starting from the pole for Monday’s feature race after stopping the clocks with a 56.3 sec. lap in Saturday’s qualifying session, team driver Aaron Pettipas managed to out-duel second-place qualifier Dale Phelon in his ex-Wood Brothers Ford Thunderbird to score the relatively easy victory.  Finishing in third place was former IMSA champ Gene Felton driving a Chevrolet Lumina.  PRT ran the fastest lap of the race at 56.2 sec.

PRT’s next and final race of the season will be the final event on the 2001 CGTCC itinerary, October 2-4 at Mosport Park.
