Abraham Lincoln
Hey, did anybody notice that Honest Abe, when running for office early in his career, adamantly clamed that he was neither for the equality of Negroes nor for the right for Negroes to vote? A couple presidential terms later, he said that he always thought that all men should be free. Then he said that all-important principles must be inflexible. Figure that one out. And when you do, figure out for me why every year thousands of American high school students honor the graceful, persuasive style of old Abe and his famed foe by raving at 200 words per minute at each other for an hour at a stretch in the "Lincoln-Douglas" debates.
