MOM: Chris, why do you think Kyle acted so weird last night?
CHRIS: What do you mean by weird?
MOM: You remember when I fixed supper for him he wouldn't eat.
CHRIS: I remember that you put a spoonful of peas in front of him and he didn't want anything to do with it.
MOM: You know how good those peas would be for him.
CHRIS: I know but I also know that you took him out of his high chair and put him down.
MOM: Well, I thought if he got hungry enough he would eat his peas.
CHRIS: And so I found him later in the trash with cans and paper all over the place and an old banana peel between his teeth. I also remember how he cried when you took the banana peel away from him.
MOM: I remember telling him "shame on you for rooting around in the garbage after refusing to eat supper.
CHRIS: Wasn't that silly, Mom? Kyle sure doesn't know what's good for him, does he?
MOM: No, he doesn't. (pause) Very often Christians don't either. We neglect things God has provided for our happiness and growth, and then try to fulfill our needs with earthly possessions and amusements.
CHRIS: I know, Mom.
MOM: And those things are only so much garbage compared with the things of the Lord. They are peelings, not peas.
CHRIS: You're right, we are light that. I think I'll stop and do my Sunday school lesson now.
MOM: How about you boys and girls? Do you have a need in your life? Things of this world will never satisfy these needs.
CHRIS: Yes, and let God do it. Read His Word. Talk to Him.
MOM: Yes, boys and girls, what ever you need, give God the chance to satisfy it.
