Mark 16:15
PUPPETS: Sammy, Simon, Rachel, blue monkey

Key Point: Spread the good news of Jesus

Characters: Sammy, Simon, Rachel, blue monkey
Props: ‘boat’, pith helmet/safari hat, rod arm(s)?, jungle sounds

Simon: ‘Hi Kids, welcome to Jubilation Station. (looks around) Say, have you seen Sammy? He should be here, I better go find him. (leaves)’

Sammy: ‘Hi Kids, good to see you. (looks around) Where’s Simon? He should be up here, I’ll go find him. (leaves)’

Simon: (Simon comes back up and starts looking around, over the stage side, front, towards back) I can’t find Sammy anywhere, I wonder where he is? I’ll be right back. (leaves)’

Sammy: (Comes up looking around, looks up towards the ceiling) I don’t know where Simon is. Have you seen him? I’ll go back and try to find him. (leaves)’

Simon: (Comes back up looking around and calling) ‘Sammy, Sammy, Sammy where are you? (drops down again)’

Sammy: (Comes up fast) ‘Simon? Simon? I thought I heard Simon calling me. Simon, Simon! (drops down again)

(Simon and Sammy both come up at the same time, next to each other but looking the opposite way, slowly they turn around until they can see each other and both scream and drop down quick)

Sammy: (Comes slowly back up looking around) Simon? Simon, was that you?’

Simon: (Comes back up) ‘Sammy, you scared me, don’t sneak up on me like that.’

Sammy: ‘I didn’t sneak up on you, I was searching for you.’

Simon: ‘Oh, I was searching for you too. Hey wasn’t what the missionary had to say very interesting?’

Sammy: ‘Yes it was. The missionaries have a very important job to do.’

Simon: ‘Right Sammy, they are working for God, spreading the news of Jesus.’

Sammy: ‘Hey I can do that job too!’

Simon: ‘Yes we all can do that job Sammy. God tells us in the Bible, in Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”’

Sammy: ‘”Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Hey, here’s how I can spread the good news. (loudly) Extra! Extra! Read all about it! God sends his own Son to be the Savior of the world. Extra! Extra!’

Simon: ‘Well, I guess that’s one way to do it, most people do it a bit quieter though. But you are right Sammy, God did send His only son Jesus to earth to be our savior, it was God’s great gift to us.’

Sammy: ‘What do we have to do to get this gift Simon?’

Simon: ‘We just have to ask for it. We just have to ask Jesus to come into our hearts, be our Lord and Savior and then we will live our life for him. Then one day we will be with Him in heaven.’

Sammy: ‘That’s the best gift of all Simon, but some people don’t ask for it, do they?’

Simon: ‘No they don’t, some people don’t know about Jesus. That’s why it is all of our jobs to go out and tell people about Jesus. The missionaries have a very special calling from God. Many of them travel far, far away to tell people about Jesus.’

Sammy: ‘Yes they have a very special job. They (Sammy hops up in the air slightly) Whoa (hops again) Hey, what’s going on?!’

Simon: ‘Sammy, stop hopping up and down!’

Sammy: ‘Simon I’m not hopping (hops again) oops, (looks at kids) I did it again (hops) I guess I am hopping, but I’m not trying too! (hops)

Simon: “Sammy! Are you sure you’re not just goofing around?’

Sammy: (hopping around more, moving around the stage) No Simon, I can’t stop it, Help! Stop me from hopping! Help!’

Simon: (moves over by Sammy and puts his hand on Sammy’s shoulder, Sammy stops) “OK, now stop it, no more hopping’

Sammy: ‘Boy, thanks Simon.’

Simon: ‘Sammy, why do you think you were hopping up and down like that?’

Sammy: ‘I don’t know. Wait, I think I do know. Because it’s missionaries week, I ate some food that came from other countries.’

Simon: ‘Sammy! What kind of food could you eat that would make you jump up and down like that?’

Sammy: ‘Mexican jumping beans! . . . Oh oh ([If possible, position so that puppeteers arms are touching, this way they will hop in unision.] Both start hopping up and down with Simon’s hand on Sammy’s shoulder)’

Simon: ‘Hey, stop that! Stop that! Mexican jumping beans? You ate Mexican jumping beans?’

Sammy: (both still hopping around the stage) ‘Yeah, I like to try food from other countries. I guess I shouldn’t have eaten Mexican jumping beans though.’

Simon: ‘No, you shouldn’t. Hey I’m getting tired of this jumping. (lets go of Sammy’s shoulder, Sammy keeps hopping, a little bit higher. Rachel comes up on stage) Hi Rachel, silly Sammy ate some Mexican jumping beans and now he can’t stop hopping up and down.’

Rachel: ‘You sure are silly Sammy. Why don’t you go drink some water or something, maybe then you will stop.’

Sammy: (still hopping) ‘Hey, that’s a good idea, I’ll be right back. (hops off stage)

Simon: ‘Before Sammy started hopping around we were talking about missionaries.’

Rachel: ‘Missionaries are very important. It has to be hard for them to leave their homes and relatives and friends and go away to a land that they might not know much about. I like to help the missionaries.’

Simon: ‘That’s a good idea Rachel, and there are ways that we can help. The first way that we can help is by praying.’

Rachel: ‘Right Simon, we can pray and ask God to help the missionaries in their work. Another way we help is with our buddy barrels. The money that we put into our buddy barrels and bring to church helps the missionaries with the things that they need.’

Simon: ‘That’s right Rachel. The money from the buddy barrels helps the missionaries and the missionary children. We can all be missionaries right here by spreading the news about Jesus to everyone.’

Sammy: (comes back up wearing a pith helmet/safari hat) ‘Hey, look I’m going to be a missionary to Africa. You want to come with?’

Rachel: “Sammy, we can’t go to Africa. And like Simon says . . . (looks briefly at Simon, kids), we can be missionaries right here.’

Sammy: ‘We can go to Africa, here let’s jump into my boat and sail down a river in Africa.’

Simon: ‘Sammy, there’s no boat here. (‘boat’ comes up in front between puppets and stage) Wow, there is a boat.’

Sammy: ‘Come on in (puppets ‘get into boat’, line up facing puppets right)’

Simon: ‘But Sammy, this isn’t Africa!’

Sammy: (jungle sounds start) ‘Oh no, just listen. Here we go. (‘boat’ starts to rock front to back, puppets along with it)’

Rachel: ‘Wow, this is like we are in Africa.’

Sammy: ‘Right Rachel, now we have to be careful and watch out for wild animals.’

Simon: ‘Sammy, this is fun pretending we are in Africa, but there aren’t any wild animals here.’ (Blue monkey pops up behind Simon)

Sammy: ‘You better be careful Simon, or one of those animals might get you.’

Simon: ‘Oh Sammy, nothing is going to (blue monkey ‘grabs’ Simon and pulls him down) ‘Aaaaa’

Sammy: ‘Hey Simon, don’t be so loud, the animals will hear us. Are you OK Rachel?’

Rachel: ‘Sure Sammy, why wouldn’t I be OK? (blue monkey comes back up) This is fun pretending. (monkey ‘grabs’ her and pulls her down) Aaaa’

Sammy: ‘Rachel, don’t you be noisy now. (blue monkey comes up and takes Rachel’s place) OK Rachel, we are going into a place now where we have to be very careful. Strange things can happen. Are you ready? Rachel? Rachel? (turns around and looks at monkey, silent for a second, looks at kids, back at monkey) Rachel, you have blue hair all over you! . . . Hey! You’re not Rachel! You’re that crazy blue monkey. Help, help! (Monkey goes after Sammy, they run around the stage for a bit. Boat goes down. Simon and Rachel come back up).

Simon: ‘Well kids, it’s time for us to go.’

Rachel: ‘Remember kids, God told us to “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” And remember to pray for the missionaries.’

(Monkey is after Sammy, Sammy starts hopping again.)

Simon: ‘Right, and we can all do missionary work by telling people about Jesus.’

Rachel: ‘Bye kids.’

Simon: ‘Goodbye kids, see you next time. Sammy, stop playing and say goodbye. (Simon and Rachel leave)’

Sammy: (stops running from blue monkey) OK monkey stop! I’m tired of running and we have to go. Bye kids, and remember your buddy barrels. (Sammy and monkey leave, hopping)
