(the episode where a crayon is found in Homer's brain) at the animation convention at the begining a booth behind them as they pass has jr, larry, & bob on it! If you look at the TV in the booth the "Dance of the Cucomber" is being viewed!

(c) '93  contains 3 cartoons: -Tales from the Crisper 5 yr old Junior watches a "Frankencellery" movie and gets scared so his mother sends him to bed.  As if he isn't scared enough of the shadows, his toy box starts to shake.  It's Bob and Larry to help him.  They tell Junior that he shouldn't be scared b/c God's in controll and is bigger and stronger than any monster.  They also bring in Francencellery himself who is actually an actor from Toleto.  They sing "God is Bigger" and leave.  Junior is no longer scared and goes to sleep. -The Water Buffalo Song The 1st Silly Song was origionally desined to be the ONLY silly song until fans wanted more.  Larry hops on stage wearing a huge 10-gallon hat that covers his eyes and sings the song ("Everyone's got a Waterbuffalo") until he is stopped by Archibald who says that they will get nasty letters saying "Where's my waterbuffalo/Why don't I have a waterbuffalo"..."So stop being so Silly!" - Daniel and the Lion's Den It is given the look of a mini movie, but the style of a bedtime story with a narrator.  But it is also a musical!  It starts off with "King Darius Suite" to explain that the king (played by archibald) had a dream, the wise men can't solve it and Daniel is brought in.  Daniel (played by Larry) solves the dream and gets promoted to 2nd in command.  This makes the wise men man who plot against Daniel.  "Oh, no! What we Gonna' Do?" is sung as they plot.  The wise men explain their plan to Darius while they sing "We've got some News".  Daniel is captured and sent into the lion's den.  Daniel says, "oh, no, what am I going to do?  It looks like I'm gonna be lion stew!"  But the narratior responds my singing "Fear Not, Daniel" as the lion's mouths are shut.  Daruis checks back in the morning and finds Daniel ok.  Daniel emerges and thanks the lions for the pizza adn Darius sings "You were in His Hand" Qwerty raps things up my quoting Is. 41:10

My Comments:

This is the first cartoon and it is obvious my style. I don't recommend seeing this one as your 1st Veggie experience b/c they have improved so much!
Look for: VeggieTale poster in Jr's room in 1st cartoon and gold (instead of silver) eyepiece for Archibald in 3rd.

Bob and Jr's Dad are taking Jr, Laura, Anne, and one of the peas to a Twippo concert.  Bob's trying to read a map and gets lost on a mountain raod.  Meanwhile Jr's Dad isn't being a very good co-pilot as he leads the kids in a sing-along of a Twippo song.  Jr's dad gets too enthusiastic and takes the driver's wheel off of the car with his guitar. (how he plays it I have no idea...) They barely miss a (cute) family of porcupines. The mother takes out the right side tires and the car careens out of controll.
So they crash near a "Sea Foo" reastaurant where they mean the french peas. The boy porcupine hits Bob with a quill.   Also there Jr (and later the others) run into the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (Larry, Pa, Mr. Lunt).  They overhear Jr being mad a Laura.  this is because Laura won a backstage pass to the concert and waved it around so much that it flew out the window.  They tell the story of Jonah (they were there after all...) because they need to learn about compassion and mercy.
     Jonah (Archibald) is a prophet for the Lord.  He goes around from town to town delivering God's messages.  the pirates' tale begins with Jonah going to one of the towns (song).  Later that night Jonah receives a message from God (not voiced, Jonah repeats god's words) that he needs to go to Ninevah and tell them to repent, or else.  Jonah is glad for their punnishment but doesn't want to risk going there himself because it's so bad and is not part of Israel (song).  
So he decides to go in the complete opposite direction.  He runs into a cruse ship ticket salesman (Scotty) and wants to go to Tarshish.  But it's the furthest away so the only ones who will sail Jonah there are the pirates who don't don anything. At first they say no ("Alf is on in a half an hour so we couldn't possibly") but they need Jonah's payment (they're in debt b/c they bought too many chips because they wanted to win the Mr. Twisty's Twisted Cheesecurls contest to find the golden ticket (think Wily wonka) to tour the factory in Ninevah)  But they've never sailed before.  
On the ship they're bored.  Jonah doesn't like the way they spend their time (playing ping-pong) and goes below deck.  There he meets Khalil (friendship in Arabic) the caterpillar (well, his mother was a caterpillar, his father was a worm but "but (he's) okay with that now.").  He decides to be Jonah's travelling buddy, against Jonah's will, and tries to befriend him.  After a dream sequence where Jonah deals with is concience, the storm starts.
The ship is about to sink and Captain Pa wants to know why so he orders everyone to play Go Fish (instead of casting lots in the Bible) and whoever looses is to blame.  Jonah looses so they have him walk the plank, at Jonah's request, and pa prays that they not be held responsible for it (NIV quote!).  They give jonah a rubber ducky ring to keep him afloat (which Larry prays God will keep it safe).  The storm stops but "there's something in the water!"  The big fish swallows Jonah and the rubber ducky is safe!
     Inside Jonah is depressed.  Kahlil (who was accidentally sent to the fish in a bowling ball attack by the pirates) tells him to cheer up.  At that point Angels (the Christian singing group Anointed) appear and sing about God's second chances. (a real showstopper - every preview screening I went to the audience applauded after this song!) 
     Jonah is spit out (half digested - cool touch) and goes to Ninevah.  there he meets back up with the pirates who don't do anything and are arrested for steeling cheesecurls ("I thought they were free samples")  Their lives are threatened ("the slap of no return!") but Jonah tells the king (Squash from High Silk Hat - with Goliath's voice from "Dave & the Giant Pickle") God's message.  The city repents and they are saved.  But Jonah won't buy it.  He wants to see it destroyed since it's been so evil.  So he goes to a hill to watch the fireworks.  Khalil gives Jonah what for (Stealing God's lines from the Bible) and the camel, Reginald, and Khalil leave him there.  - end of the pirates tale.
     But the veggies hearing the tale don't like that ending since the story dead stops (The Biblical account dead stops - they can't add to it!!).  What would he rather have?  A great big musical number?  Of course!!!  But only after Twippo (also played by Archibald) walks into the same restaurant not finding his own concert! Twippos offers to give them a ride to the concert in his bus. But Laura is sad since she lost her ticket she figures she can't go. But Junior is compassionate/merciful and gives her his ticket. Twippo is touched ("did you ever hear the story of a man named Jonah?" - "Yes!")All of them can go backstage as Twippo's guests because of Junior's selfless action, all learn their lesson. Before leaving the toe truck drivers arrives and who can it be but a modern-day Khalil - Twippo askes, "Have we met?" The toetruck driver can only wiggle his eyebrows to the camera.  Roll Credits (DON'T LEAVE EARLY-- Silly Song!)  The End.

#2: God wants me to Forgive Them?!?

(c) '94 contains 3 cartoons: - The Grapes of Wrath Larry tells the story of the Grapes of Wrath but it isn't the classic story as Bob points out.  It starts out with a family of grapes Pa (1st appearence), Ma, Rosie, and Tom, as they travel down the road in their rundown old vehicle which is more animated then they are.  They sing "We are the Grapes of wrath" and explain that they are bad grapes.  Tom and Rosie get in a verbal fight but rosie looses when she calls tom an iguana boy b/c he's 18 and is really an igana man!  Jr sees them as they pass while playing in the yard as the family hits a rock and are stopped.  The grapes can't figure out what Jr is and call him a cheese headed bean boy which hurts Jr's feelings.  Jr's father comes out and tells the grapes that that wasn't nice and to appoligize.  They do and Jr. forgives them.  The father goes back in the house as tom and rosie make fun of Jr's name causing him to stumble on the hoe, fall in his toy truck and fall into his sandbox.  Jr can't forgive them for that until bob and Larry interrupt their story and have Qwerty (the computer) quote Matt. 18:22 that he should forgive 70x7.  None of them can figure out what 70x7 is except for Rosie.  So they are forgiven and go away as the Grapes of Math! - The forgive-o-matic This is an informercial. Original viewers didn't like this and complained to the company for more Silly Songs and so the Silly Songs were established as the imbetween of almost every cartoon!  The salesman offers the forgive-o-matic to forgive people's sins for them.  With the offer comes a set of knives which a miner comes on as a testamonial saying that those knives are still going strong in his hole.  then Jr comes up and explains that only God can forgive sins.  the salesman stuck with a bad product then advertises it as being useful to make fries and, if you put a few seeds on it, can be Chia-forgive-o-matic!  Jr tells him to say goodnight Grace, and he does - Larry's Lagoon A direct imitation of Giligan's Island.  bob and Larry recolect about how they had a summer touring boat serice.  three were on their 3 hr tour upon that fateful ship.  The professor, the millionaire and his wife, and the movie star and other girl cancelled for that day.  They sing "Some Veggies went to Sea (sea sea)"  Bob puts larry incharge of steering the ship with the warning not to daydream.  He does and pretends he's a russian ice breaker who must smash into an iceburg to save some whales!  but the iceberg is really a rock and the ship goes down in the bay of a derserted island.  They all blame Larry and don't forgive him which causes him to run away and build a raft to sale away on all alone.  The professor comes up with many ideas to get them off the island (all made out of bamboo)one of which causes bob to destroy the millionaire's hut my falling from a tree.  Bob is forgiven which makes them realize they should have forgiven Larry.  They find him as he's sailing off (not by wind but his own breath) and forgive him.  A nearby palm tree, Palmy (not named until the X-mas CD), says he's happy they've made up and feels like singing.  He does and sings "The forgiveness song" in a Jamacan style.  The professor builds a bamboo helecopter and gets them home with the idea that next summer they'll sell lemonade like everyone else" Qwerty finishes with quoting Col. 3:13b

My Comments:

I've seen this movie 5 times already. 3 for free at the premere and 2 paid. & I've pre-ordered the DVD. This movie is good!!!
Look For: Art Bigotti's bowling ball; Pa's 3rd pirate hat (1st in silly song - crossbones, 2nd in ultimate silly song countdown - happy face pirate, 3rd in movie - tic tac toe); Every Veggie made and many more extras; Big Idea's hometown on cruse sign, & the address to the studio on the letter Jimmy's delivering; Silly Song "The Credits Song" plays at end of the credits (SO DON'T LEAVE EARLY!); Little songs: "Bald Bunny", & ding dong song (easy to miss b/c so quick and bald bunny is talked overtop of); Paradies: Jaws, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Monty Python, Lawrence of Arabia, & more; And actual movie merchandice: plush toy w/ sound chip, & go fish game.

Unless you're a fan of Gilligan's Island, this forgettable video is not for the 1st time viewer but for the collector.

#3: Are you my Neighbor?

(c)95- "The Story of Fibber-o-loo"
It starts with a Good Sameritan like story where there are two towns on two hills that hate each other.  The only difference b/w them is the fact that one town wears a shoe on their head and the other wears a pot.  The entire thing is in rhymed verse and narrated by Bob.  Larry, a Flibberian w/ a shoe, decides to take a walk b/w the two towns.  He gets beaten up & his milk money stolen my some bandits on the road.  They stick him upside down in a hole and he's stuck, then the bandits leave.  The mayor of Larry's town stoles down the road and sees Larry there.  But he can't help him b/c (song) "I'm busy" (in 3/4).  The doctor stoles by and says that she's busy too.  The doctor and mayor spend time (narrated thankfully) descussing how busy their schedules are and how they can't possibly waste time helping Larry (song longer: "I'm Busy").  They leave Larry there.  Then Junior comes (from the other town) and descides that he can't leave Larry there since he himself wouldn't want to be stuck there.  So junior takes Larry back to town and pays for his doctor's bill.  Everyone learns their lesson to (song) "Love your neighbor"
- "Silly song: The Hairbrush Song"
This was rated the #1 silliest song by fans.  It's an operettic type song where Larry can't find his hairbrush after taking a shower. Pa Grape thinks he saw a hairbrush back there,  Junior comes in and asks why he needs a hair brush since he doesn't have any hair, Bob apologizes for giving the hairbrush to the Peach since the peach has hair and Larry doesn't, and the Peach thanks larry for the hairbrush.  This is VERY well done and is funny too!
- "The Gourds must be Crazy!"
This is a paradoy of both the 1st episode and Star Trek.  Junior is going to have a b-day party and his father suggests that he invite Fernando the new kid.  Junior says no since he talks funny.  His father says that he doesn't talk funny, just different, and encourages him to think it over.  Once the father leaves Bob & Larry fly in on a miniature space ship.  Bob recites his first line from "Tales from the Crisper" and tells Junior that their ship the USS Applepies (get it?) is stuck, w/o power and has a popcorn meteor headed straight towards it.  They need Jr.'s help since he minored in that at the Happy Tot Preschool (he majored in Play Dough like Larry).  So they take off towards the ship.  Once there they 1st meet Scotty, a carrot engeneer who announces that there are 364 people on bored & only 2 escape pods.  Then they meet (in their 1st veggie appearence) Jimmy & Jerry Gourd.  They're the New Guys who are thought to be crazy since all they do is eat & sing (in later veggie enstalments they seem to neglect singing).  But since they announce they can eat a whole plannet they are sent in the escape pod with only minutes to save the ship to eat the popcorn meteor. (they didn't have time to be told of their mission and just ate b/c they were hungary)  They save the ship, ("no more for me thanks, I'm full!") by eating 14,000 metric tons of popcorn.  They descover that the ship's main power was not plugged into the wall socket and everything is fine.  They sing "I can be Your friend", Jr is returned home, and Bob and Larry leave.  Only to return to ask for directions to the freeway.  Jr tells his father that he will invite Fernando b/c if the Slime Monster would come then Fernando might be able to stop him with x-ray eyes or something b/c he's different.  But his dad tells him that being different doesn't mean that, but means that he might be able to teach jr about his country.  Jr liked that idea

My Comments:

   A much better story than the other 1st episodes. I used the Fibber-o-loo story for my church vacation Bible school one year and every 3rd grader in there had the songs memorized already and sang along!
    The hairbrush song is one of the best silly songs (on Ultimate Silly Song Countdown DVD the Japanese version is an easter egg)
    The Star Trek parody is typical, but still well done. Scotty comes back only in the Larry-Boy cartoons but Jimmy & Jerry are regulars now and they do great in their first appearence.
     Look for: (on silly song) the jar moves around as an animation error in the background

VeggieTales Christmas Spetacular!

My Comments:

It was really great seeing the veggies on TV and to see animated versions of the songs from the Christmas CD, but... It wasn't their best story line. The film being lost has been done before, but overall not bad and I have watched it again.

Similar to Biblical Story of Shadrack, Meshack, and Abendego.  
Starts off with song "Good morning George" as Laura delevers the milk to the Nezzer Chocolate Factory.  It produces (+ or -) 14,638 chocolate bunnies.  It's owned by Nebby K. Nezzer (joke off of the Biblical story).  At celebration of 2 million bunnies shipped the employees are allowed to eat as many bunnies as they want for 30 mins. but as the rest of them get sick, Jr reminds Larry & Bob not to eat too much candy as their mothers told them. Song "Think of Me".  They learn that even though their parents aren't there, they should still do what they say.  Since they are the only ones who don't get sick on too much chocolate, they are promoted to Jr executives (they wear a tie).  So they get a preview the next day of a big event.  Mr. Nezzer decides that no one appreciates the bunny as much as he does so all employees must bow down to a 90 ft blowup bunny and sing the bunny song.  It is full of bad ideas (don't go to school, only eat bunnies all day), so they kids refuse to sing the song, but the threat is that if they don't, they get thrown into the funace which is used to burn the bad bunnies.
Break for Silly Song: Dance of the Cucomber.
Larry sings the traditional Argentinian ballad at an Disney World-ish type display of the worlds nations.  Bob translates (b/c it's sung in Spanish)  As he translates he realizes that he is getting made fun of. He objects but is cut off by Jr who, with his family, is visiting the park and asks for a picture with the cucomber.  His dad agrees but after they must rescue their mom from the Dwarfs who have the mother confused for someone else (little dwarfs chase the mom by at this point).  After the picture vs.2 is sung.  Bob is made fun of again and finishes by chasing Larry off of the screen
Continue with Rack, Shacck & Benny.
In the morning they can't sing the song.  Laura says they should b/c "everyone else is doing it!" but they still refuse.  Jr sings the "Think of Me" again but it doesn't help them.  As a result they are tied up & about to be dropped into the furnace.  Laura comes by using her delevery truck yelling "nobody bakes by buddies!" and attempts to rescue them.  After a chase, they end up in the same spot where they started.  As the truck breaks the guys are dropped into the funace.  A strange light appears as Mr. Lunt descovers an extra 4th guy "who's reeeeal shiny!".  They are release from the funace with out any harm done to them.  The whole cast sings "Stand"

First aired on various PBS stations in Dec. '02 my popular demand.
(Long review to come later when I have time and review the tape)
Bob & Larry, Cavis Appythart and Millward Phelps, are out of work advertisers.  Cavis, has this great plan to make London (1880's)learn how to love by doing a broadway-type musical, the Princess and the Plumber.  They get funding from Millward's unlce (played by Mr. Nezzer) and the show is on.  Go get the show to be popular the prince (mr. lunt) must come and see it, and the prince won't see it unless his favorite actress (madame blueberry) is in it.  After some working, both are comming to the performance.
It looks like the show will be a big hit until Cavis sees a flyer about the star of Christmas appearing at a local church's christmas play (jr's incharge of his dad's church play).  No big deal until Bob accidentally tells a reporter (archibald) about the star.  Apparently it's this big deal b/c it's a artifact from post-Biblical times and hasn't been seen in centuries.  So now the whole town is going to see the church play.  Now the prince must go to the church play to see the star and Cavis' show won't be popular.
So Cavis decides to but lights not only on the theatre (like the royal theatre) but on the scenery as well.  This stirrs up some more attention, but it's still not enough.  So lights are added ot the people as well.  Still not enough.  So as a last resort Cavis decides to "borrow" the start from the church.  after a chase errupts, they get what they think is the star.  
Now the prince will come.  At the final dress rehearsal they try out the electric lights and the place catches on fire.  This burns down not only the theatre but also the star of christmas. So now they are in jail, and Millward's uncle isn't happy. 
Jr & his dad go visit Cavis and Millward in jail and let them out.  come to find out that they didn't steal the real star so they're free to go.  To visit them in jail, jr & his dad are going to miss the church play.  So Pa uses his new rocket car to get them to the church on time.  Everyone learns the real meaning of christmas and Cavis learns his lesson.  Mellward will work off his debt to his uncle.  All is happy.

#11 The end of Sillyness?

My Comments:

Once I buy the DVD & review my tape of the PBS airing I'll have more to say and a more acurate description of the story. It's nice to not see a more-"traditional" christmas story, but his has a predictable conclusion. The PBS airing had a behind the scenes special, which I assume will also be on the DVD, but I'm not sure.
Look For: The numbers on the jail id cards are Phil & Mike's b-days (Phil on Bob's and Mike's on Larry's since they do their voices). Cavis and Mellward are Gilbert & Sullivan's middle names.
