![]() It's amazing how people can look at the same thing and come away with opposite re-actions. Love it or hate it, there seems to be no middle ground when it comes to Vin Diesel's last hit movie The Fast and The Furious. Fans play up the movie's fast cars, stunts, earthy characters or just plain fun image. While haters of the film point out the flimsy plotline, one-dimensional characters, stilted dialogue, as well as accussing the writers of stealing the plot from other movies and being technically inaccurate with car terminology. |
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I didn't want to see his movie, but my friends really wanted to see it bad. It was sold out, but we got into the 12:15am show time and the theater was packed! AT 12:15!! I don't understand what the appeal of this movie is. A bunch of fast cars? Fast cars does not a good movie make. The dialogue of this movie was terrible. There wasn't anything interesting said the whole time. My friends (who LOVED the movie) tried to defend it saying that they talked like real people talk. Well, if I want to see real people talk I'll go to the barber shop or something; somewhere where I don't have to pay $8.25. Such lines as "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning." and "I'll have the tuna fish," are the most memorable, and believe me they really sucked. The plot hardly got in the way of the blatant attempt to make a movie just for the reason of a bunch of cars going really fast. And audiences couldn't WAIT to see a bunch of cars going really fast. Maybe these people should watch NASCAR or something, then they won't have to worry about ignoring some piddly plot. If you want to see a GOOD movie with cars see Bullitt. Who hired these actors? ALL of them were terrible especially Vin Diesel who sleeps through the movie. My guess is they spent so much money on the cars that they could only afford to hire fifth rate actors. I gave this movie a 2 out of 10. The only reason it didn't get a 1, is because of the cars, if the scenes with the cars were surrounded by something that didn't make me want to ride the bus from now on, then maybe it could've gotten a higher rating. |
This movie was the best! The cars rocked, the guys were hot, and everything was laid out perfectly. The cast was awesome, Vin Diesel played a good roll, and so did Paul Walker. If they had a different cast, this movie wouldn't be as good. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel were perfect for the cast. And so was everyone else. I can't believe how awesome the cars were. That green Eclipse was bitchin. So was the black Dodge Charger at the end. That was the best scene of all time!! |
The only things this movie had going for it are... gee, I can't think of anything. I didn't even make it through the first fifteen minutes of this movie. There aren't very many movies that I can't force myself to sit through to at least attempt to get the value I paid for. Luckily the video store I rented from gave me in store credit so I could rent another movie in its place. Racing Honda Civics???? |
I see most of the movie's haters are from other countries, especially from London, England. But once again, if you are not in USA then what do you know about street racing or racing cars. No offense but it's true. The movie is not about great plot, dialog to compete for Oscar. It's about the street racing world, the world that most of middle age people do not know about. I think the movies did a great job emphasized the realistics. The speed, the aldrenaline rush, heart pumping....they are all so real. To all haters out there, just chill, maybe racing is not your game, don't blame the movie. |
An inconsistent attempt at what could have been so much more.Taking one of the words out of the title, I am furious that the film did not live up to its potential. By this I mean the fact that yet again, we have a dumb Hollywood script laden with the corniest lines imaginable. Credibility is also riding high in deficiency, when you consider the fact that Vin Diesel's character must be invincible, seeing as how he manages to escape injury, after colliding with a truck at over 150 mph. Retreating back from the criticism for a moment, the cars in the film are breathtaking and the score certainly pumps out serious wattage--although that's the problem, the cars are the focus point and being that's the case, shouldnt Rob Cohen (the director) have constructed better action sequences, that actually had depth enough to keep his audience entertained. You would think so. Struggling to find a commendable word to say I can only consider the aspects about the film that could have been so easily improved, given the subject matter; if you think about it fast cars, babes, violence and sex should make for a solid, thrilling 90 minutes. Instead we settle for the sluggish, dull experience that most of us would gladly replace with GONE IN 60 SECONDS any day of the week. Let's face it at least GONE IN 60 had Angelina, not to mention action guru Jerry Bruckheimer on board. Despite the distinct lack of praise from, well a large proportion of the western hemisphere, 'THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS' still managed to be lucrative by taking $144 million at the US box office. Are those Japanese imports really that amazing? |
This is definitly my favorite movie! It is action packed and has a little humor in it as well. If you are into cars, then this movie is like heaven for you. This movie is basically based on trust and illegal street-racing. The technology in these cars are unbelieveable, and the stunts that are performed are mind-boggling. I have never seen so much "interesting" action in one scene in my life. I saw this movie twice in the theaters, and I bought the DVD the first day. Some of these cars would be anyone's dream car, but each car gets better than the previous. Whether it's the Green Eclipse or the Honda Civics. This movie is about an undercover cop who joins a racing team in order to find out who has been robbing tractor-trailers for their electronics... Overall, the plot is a 3 but the action/special effects are a 5+. The cars in this movie are some of the best I've ever seen in my life. I think that this movie is more for the younger crowd, it appeals to us more than adults. |
The cars were cool , the acting was OK , the stunts were impressive. But ... as i started to watch the film and realised that i had to take my brain out to enjoy it i noticed that the plot and story were a BLATANT rip off of a great film called Point Break which starred Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. There are so many similarities , its unbelievable. For any of you that have seen both films think about it ... and if not , check out Point Break. A rookie undercover cop is sent to infiltrate a gang that is suspected of doing some high profile robbery. The cop befriends a girl (a waitress!!!) to get into the gang. The ringleader however seems to have some personal deathwish and has no regard for his own life. The cop gets a bit too pally with the ringleader and when it comes to the crunch and he has to bust him for his crimes he can't do it.Also , the cop reveals his identity to the girl and she hates him for it. There are some differences granted (at the end) but somebody i'm sure has watched Point Break and thought 'hey , we could remould this and make another film out of it!' .... It's a shame if thats the case. Rob Cohen is a cool director and has done some great stuff in the past ..... but this film was a no-no. rating |
When I first heard about this movie, I was told "it's just another 'guy' flick" and advised not to go see it. Well, I ignored that advice and I'm darn glad I did cos it's a great movie! Although the plot is a little weak, the strong cast holds it together and makes it a movie worth watching. Brian is instantly suspicious and the explaination for his behaviour is no big surprise. What is a shock is who is behind the truck robberies; although the suspicion is there the film makers throw the viewer a few red herrings to throw you off the scent. The two female leads are so vastly different that complement each other perfectly and the "team" is so diverse that you never quite know where they're coming from. A bunch of nice cars, and nice bikes, adds the finishing touch to an intimate look at the illegal street racing scene of today's American youth. If you're not sure rent the movie rather than buying it but WATCH IT as it's a great movie with a wondferful cast. And there's always Vin Diesel with his shirt off for the ladies to look at. |
Wow, was this movie a total piece of crap. Boring, stupid actors driving in bright, ugly cars. There are so many things wrong with this movie I do not even know where to begin. Every performance in this movie was flat and drab. The dialog was beyond stupid. I know Van can do better than this. The cars and stunts fail to impress because you will not give a shit about these people. If you want to see a better movie about similar ideas, see "No Man's Land". For really good car scenes, watch "Ronin". Instead of "The Fast and the Furious", how about "The Dumb and the Boring" |
My! How many negative reviews of "The Fast and the Furious" do we see on Amazon.com!? However, this movie conquered the box office and somehow averages four stars on this very website. How does this happen? The critics slam this movie... and it is an easy target, action-oriented movies usually are. It's always easier to tear something down rather than build it up, but I'm going to give my best shot at defending my four star rating. I will grant the critics that the acting is only "fair." I will also grant that the plot is unbelievable some of the time. Sure, the actors in this film are young and occasionally show their inexperience. However, I would say that Vin Diesel's performance stands out. Sure it is a "race movie," and nobody will give him credit, but he took a one-dimensional character and gave Dom Turetto a bit of swagger, strength, but also a sense of fatherly protectionism and remorse for his past crime. Dom Turetto is the father-figure for the team of racers which is the focus of the plot. He is also the anti-hero to Paul Walker's protagonist, Brian Spilner/O'Connor. As for the plot, I will concede that it is far-fetched, with its semi-truck hijackings, wiseguy police officers, and machinegun-toting Asian Youth Gangs. However, I would argue that the plot does its best to string the racing events together in a cohesive way while not turning into a "night and day" kind of movie in which you have a very distinct rift between the "race scenes" and the "dialogue scenes." I compared this movie to another race movie called "Driven" (which was horrible). "The Fast and the Furious" did an outstanding job when compared to "Driven" in keeping the momentum throughout its dialogue sequences. The transitions are seamless, and the dialogue and direction are quick and to the point. Where this movie excels is in the handling of the race sequences. The choreography of the auto races or the semi-truck hijackings are unlike anything we have seen. To show these types of images with real street-legal cars is something that captures the imagination of many young Americans. Each "race sequence" is unique from the others, either because of the cars, the setting, time of day, or the adversity facing the protagonists (shotgun-weilding semi-truck driver, freight train on a collision-course, or the aforementioned machinegun-toting Asian Youth Gang). I believe this movie has been so popular because of the themes that emerge from the periphery of the storyline. The story and action convey a sense of family, competition, hard work, and equality between the sexes. The racing teams represented in the movie allow their members to cross barriers of race and sex, exposing close-knit groups which help each other excel in the competitive world of drag racing. Through hard work and the support of one's teammates, any youth in America could build his or her own dream machine and race against the best in the city. The DVD has excellent visual and audio qualities, and the DVD "extras" are outstanding. The "making of..." and director commentary sections are strong and insightful. In the deleted scenes section, the viewer will find a great scene in which Dom, Brian, and the other men of the "team" are outside the garage drinking beer and telling the stories of how they became racers and how one's life changes after becoming addicted to the adrenaline-powered life of a racer. Why this scene was cut from the movie is inexplicable. The Fast and the Furious" will entertain you many times over if you keep an open mind and look past some of the less believable elements. It may not impress you with an Oscar-worthy performance or storyline, but for those who accept its limitations and enjoy its successes, it is an entertaining movie you will watch again and again. |
I had hope for this movie, seeing as it had many of the bigger players in the import scene advising the screen writers. However, there are so many technical faults I am appauled. NOS, or nitrous does not raise top speed, SR20 motors are made by Nissan, not Honda, Motec does not make exhaust systems, the turbo selections are far too big for a street 4 cyl., blah blah blah. I won't bore you non automotive types anymore, but when combined with the worthless Keanu Reeves-like Paul Walker, this movie should only be watched by riceboys, high school kids, and people who are brain dead. And the worst part is they don't even mension the Skyline. This movie is a true disgrace to the import scene, and is probably the worst publicity street racers have ever gotten. |
