News from Nancy:

God has blessed our little part of the family beyond measure. Randal was able to transfer a flight coupon over to Heather so she could join us in celebrating Rhett’s graduation in mid-August, then off to Dallas he went to start his new job with Simmers Capital management. He is staying with two of his wonderful fraternity brothers for the time being. By the time you read this, he should be through studying and taking tests (4 in all) to become a stock broker. Then he will train to start out as a financial consultant for Simmers. Heather is also thinking about moving to Dallas, but starting over in a new place ia a bit frightening. Randal, Rhett and I are still hoping that works out. Heather is terribly bored with her job in Austin, but does some design work on the side that she enjoys.

Heather met us in Dallas over Labor Day weekend when we took Rhett’s WORLDLY possessions to him, so we had a good visit then. On the way down, we got to attend Richie’s graduation. We are all so very proud of him, and we are looking forward to hearing about his and Judy’s adventures.

Randal has been hammering out some pedal cars that had been run over and yesterday he put the finishing touches on a deer tree stand at Wheeler that he, his dad and his brother rebuilt. We also got a piece of wood off the old barn on his grandparents place to make a case for a clock that his dad is restoring.

As for me, I’m so thankful I am retired. I stay very busy and work hard at home playing catch up. The other day, I was pulling weeds by the pond and right in front of me, an earthworm came all the way out of the ground, crawled about a foot and went back into the ground. I had never seen that happen and told the Lord how amazed I was that He had made such a fragile creature able to penetrate concrete-hard ground. I felt very special that God took the time to do that just for me. I’m still amazed at life and thankful for each one of you.

News from Linda:

Dearest Family,

Everyone in our family is doing okay. Everyone is staying busy. Steph, Herb andd Connor moved just before school strated. They now have a house instead of an apartment. Connor is really enjoying the yard. Herb travels some with his job, so Steph and Connor batch part-time.

Labor Day weekend I had 3 ½ days off. Friday afternoon, Curt and I picked up Judy and went to Richie’s graduation. That way they wouldn’t have two vehicles to drive home. We really enjoyed the afternoon and evening. Richie, Judy, Nancy, Randal, Curt and I went to eat after the ceremony and then sat outside on the patio at the restaurant and visited for a couple of hours. We really enjoyed the time together. Richie, we are real proud of you! They still are not sure where they will go. They plan to be moved by the first of November. Lots to do in a short time. Pack and store things for an indefinite time.

Cameron and Ritchie are moving to Pennsylvania. Judy says she will have to learn how to get there. She will have to see those grandkids every so often. Judy couldn’t remember the name of the town where they will live, but said it was where the groundhog sees his shadow or not every year.

Candy, Derek and Baylee are doing fine. Staying busy with jobs and I’ve heard Derek likes to hunt.

Haven’t heard from Jerry’s bunch so guess no news is good news. I know Evan is involved with football, and that takes a lot of time. Their first game was in Farwell, New Mexico, sounds like a lot of late Friday nights. Heard through the grapevine the traveled to New Mexico to celebrate Teresa’s birthday???

September the 9th I helped with Pioneer Days here in Cheyenne. They have all the museums open in the park and demonstrate how things were done in bygone years. I helped with the butter churning. The only thing I was disappointed with was we used whipping cream instead of getting milk from a dairy and letting the cream rise. The booth next to us had homemade sourdough bread. We decided next year we might make some sand-hill plum jelly to go with the bread and butter. You could try your hand at all the different things if you liked. We did everything from make lye soap to wash clothes on a wash board and all things in between. I really enjoyed the day.

The 10th we started our County Wide Revival and it went five nights with refreshments each night. The revival was in a tent in the park. Preachers from different churches preached each night and we also had different song leaders from the different churches. Made for some late nights and early mornings around here. It was worth it.

Ben and Janna are fine. Janna starts to school the 25th. She is going to be a para-legal. I think that she will be really good at that. She will also work full time. Genna is growing up real fast. She and Ben really get along well and do lots of outdoor activities together. She plays soccer and Ben plays golf.

Tess is doing well except her pickup was giving her lots of problems and she said she wasn’t going to put any more money in it so she and her dad went car shopping one afternoon late and she signed the papers the next morning. She’s still pinching herself, just can’t believe she now has a new car to pay for. She has applied to go to New Mexico for three months to help start a new prison there until they get new people trained from there. We’re praying she gets to go, it would really be good for her self esteem.

We talked with our daughter in Tampa, Florida. (Donna, Curt’s Daughter) She said the hurricane missed them, but they got 10 inches of rain. Wish we had part of it as it is real dry here. We are having lots of fires in the state and some are intentionally set. I can’t believe how anyone can be so cruel. Burned about 18 homes on the NE side of Oklahoma City according to one report I heard. Very sad situation. If it’s dry in your area, please be very watchful.

I start a new job the 2nd of October. Doing the same thing, just here in Cheyenne and Monday to Friday. I won’t know how to act not having to ask a while in advance for a Saturday off. Ben says we might even get to go see our kids and grandkids.

The last time I heard from Amy she was doing okay.

Till next time may God richly bless each of you.

Love
Linda

News From Idaho

Everyone is fine here. TJ is about the same and is being maintained on a small amount of medication. He is eating well and putters in his shop a lot and has flood irrigated the yard and garden every week all summer without help.

After a cold and windy spring, summer came full blown. Very hot and dry with lots of forest and grass fires caused by lightening strikes during dry thunder storms. The hills just south of us are blackened by a huge range fire. We had some relief from the hot, dry weather around the first of September with cooler temperatures and rain. Now we are enjoying a typical Idaho Indian Summer and have not had frost yet.

Barbara and Dennis are doing well after a long, busy spring and summer putting metal siding, new windows and doors on their house and almost have their patio back together from the damage by a tornado on February 14th. Their place looks like it has been professionally done. Dennis has gone on a much deserved salmon fishing trip on the Columbia River in Oregon for a week. Dennis, Shannon, Kenneth and little T. J. did get to go to Dennis’s family reunion for a weekend in July. Barbara’s office was short staffed then so she had to stay home and work.

Roger is fine. Other than flying internationally, he has been building a retaining wall, had a deck built and a fireplace in his family room with a gas log insert. Also, he has been on vacation, the last two weeks he and his friend, Pattie, from Florida are vacationing in France. Shannon and Kenneth also did a building project this summer on a Quonset type garage/shop building that was shipped in many, many pieces that had to be bolted together, then erected to eventually make a very serviceable building for a long time. The back and front of the building has steel siding which makes a very attractive building. They had lots of help from Barbara, Dennis and Kenneth’s dad.

Little T. J. is growing up so fast, smart as can be and is such a nice little boy. We enjoy him so much. He loves to come to our house. I earned two blue ribbons and a rosette for ‘best of class’ with two entries of machine knitted items at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. We hear via e-mail that Dale and Frances will be here anytime between September 20-23. We are looking forward to their visit. Also, Elmeda is coming to spend a few days with us while Dale and Frances are here.

Love to everyone

en-route: We've had a varied summer, from the hot doldrums to interesting cool weather. First went to the cousins reunion at Childress. Had a good time but the attendance was way down. Next we set off on this vacation, uh, do retired people have vacations? We had to travel all the way to the mountains to find cool weather. We met Jessie and Elmeda at the Kelton High School exes reunion, Monta and Pete was there also. So our family was well represented at the reunion. Monta is tough, she attended the reunion only 2 weeks after back surgery. She and Elmeda spent a couple of nights at Pete's. We are presently with Loretta and Robert in Basalt, Colarado on the way to visit Virginia in Blackfoot.

We arrived at Virginia's today at 3:30. Had a good trip across the mountains in Utah, spent the night close to Provo then on up here today. Frances is sure that Utah is every bit as far across as Texas. She got soooo tired of looking at rocks and mountains.

XOXO
Kenny

Gailia would like to report that her oldest son, Justyn is a freshman in college back in the states. He attends Williams Baptist College in Northeast Arkansas. This is his first time away from home and being an MK he is in need of prayer. Also, Gailia, Nathan, Whitney are in language school again in Kunming, China refreshing their Mandarin skills.

Me, that is....Brandt....the one who married Gailia and took her to the other side of the world, Well, I'm fine....keeping track of Gailia and the children.

Blessings

Elder-Watts News

It is State Fair time in Oklahoma. It always rains during the fair, sometimes a few sprinkles; sometimes soppy wet the whole time. Since late July, there has been almost two months in OKC of no rain and a good many days of 100 degrees plus temperature. The weather has cooled but it is still dry. The fair started a few days ago the weatherman said we have a 10% chance of rain next Tuesday.

At this point in time, the most important item is that Joe is starting a new job. The job he has held for several years ended September 15. The company closed his department. Lloyd broadsided another truck in Tennessee a few days ago. Both drivers walked away.

Lowell and family were in town not long ago for a class reunion. He said people were hard to recognize. September 1st was the school reunion at Kelton, Texas. Jessie went with me out there. She really didn’t care that much about going but when she saw Pete, Dale and Monta there, she felt better about being there. I spent Saturday and Sunday night with Pete. I had a nice visit with him, Joann, Dale and Francis and with Monta Fay. Jessie enjoyed being with Carol Rae and Roy Dean.

I guess I caught itchy feet from Warren. He enjoyed travel, being places and seeing things. When I learned Dale and Francis was headed to Virginia’s it sprung into my mind I want to go, too. I will be there September 24 to October 1.

My grandkids are growing up too fast. John is working and going to school. Rachel is taking horseback riding lessons every other Saturday again this year. She loves those horses. Vicki and Christi have traveled some with their Dad. Katie experienced car trouble not long ago. The water pump had to be replaced. Ben still likes to talk and he enjoys doing things. School keeps them all busy.

Love to all

News from Amarillo

It surely was nice to get with Elmeda, Dale, Pete and families during the Kelton High School reunion. It was the first one I had ever gone to and I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. I am doing really well with the neurosurgery done on my back. They repaired a large bite size chunk that had disappeared from my left spine and I have some nerve damage. The right side isn't very bad, so they think a single wire spinal cord stimulator will fix me right up. I had stenosis and spondylosis. As Elmeda said, us younger kids are falling apart. I'm having occasional angina pains, and will have another stress test Tues. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I just get really stressed out at times.

We thought we had Bob's house sold a year ago, but so far no money so don't guess it is sold. We plan to put it on the market soon and want to paint the outside and inside, then we want to paint this house. Big on ideas and small on will power. Bob got several steroid injects in joints recently and is feeling up to the planning and want-tos, anyway.

Love you!
Bob and Monta

Mom has been sewing herself some clothes for fall and winter. She also finds herself busy with flower gardening and setting out some perennial bushes. Her pecan trees have remained safe from squirrels. They haven't been able to climb up her trees because of the vinyl skirting she put around it; they just get up to the lower limbs. However, some high winds recently blew off a lot of pecans.

She's getting new carpet put in her guest bedroom, so that will be warmer this winter--preparing for the increase in fuel costs that's supposed to occur this winter.

Sharon stays busy between working at the hospital and school. She finishes her BSN degree in May. Right now, she says that her chemistry class is eating her "lunch . . . and breakfast, and dinner, and supper"!) She has no free time. The boys are growing. Jason is a senior now and is a teacher's assistant in one of Jeremy's classes. Fortunately, Jeremy thinks that is "cool." Jeremy recently turned 16 and is driving. If you go anywhere near Turney, Missouri, be careful!!

Cecil and I have been enjoying the weather being cooler than in Texas and Oklahoma. Not to rub it in, or anything! ;) He is doing very well in his job--making the sales. He recently earned a bonus of a free trip to an Atlanta Braves game. He and I get to go to a big banquet in Greensboro NC in October where he will be presented a $500 bonus. Also, his pay has just been restructured. Instead of taking home a "draw" (advance off future commission) the weeks that he doesn't get a commission check, he now gets salary. Of course he doesn't have to pay salary back, so that is a huge pay raise. I also have received a few bonus checks this year in my job. God does provide, doesn't he!

Billy's mother and sister (Melinda, Cecil's daughter) found us a few months ago. We didn't know where they were to find them, but they found us through Cecil's brother. That was a nice surprise; then they surprised us by driving into town (from Florida) unexpectedly a week later. They talked Billy into moving there (that weekend!!). He jumped at the chance to get reacquainted with them. It was hard for us, but we knew he had the right to do this. However, he felt uncomfortable with some lifestyle situations there, so he decided to move back. We believe he made a very good decision. He's living with us until he can get a job and a place to live, but there's no big hurry.

Our fertile cat, Mellow, had her second litter a few weeks ago. She had her first litter of 4 on Mother's Day. This time she had six. Their eyes are open now, and they are starting to play; they are so cute at that age.

Our church attendance is booming since we added a third morning worship service recently (casual, contemporary worship style). I'm thrilled about the church's new web site; if you're curious or bored or whatever, check it out at www.erbc-sc.org.

Until next time
Jeanne

Garland’s Family

Roy sent the following puzzle for your enjoyment.

I visited with dad over the phone last night and he had several things to report. My youngest sister Kelly married James Wilham on Saturday, June 24 and my oldest sister Carol married Roy Dean Reed on July 31. Carol is now teaching at Lamar Elementary in Pampa and Roy Dean has taken over Dad's pumping business.

Dad had some arthritis removed from his other knee. He said the arthritis looked like icicles which they broke up and siphoned out. After her cataract surgery, ma had 20/20 vision and promptly got her driver's license back but recently has had nerve damage in her right eye. Surgery was scheduled for a date that has come and gone a few days ago with her laid up with the crud. The Surgery will have to be rescheduled when she gets to feeling better.

That's all I have for now.
