News from Linda:

We hope this finds everyone in good health and doing well otherwise. Curt and I are doing okay, but have had a very tough couple of months. As most of you know, Tess was beaten down at her job on January 2nd. The doctors at the Elk City ER didn’t give us much hope for her but they were going to Medi-Flight her to OKC to a trauma center. The chaplain who met us at the emergency room gave us the same information, but within minutes they had finished CT scans and the doctors said it wasn’t as bad as they first thought. They found no broken bones or bleeding in her brain. They were amazed that she could have that much swelling and not have any major damage inside. GOD ANSWERED A LOT OF PRAYERS THAT DAY!!!!! At this time she is in Neuro Rehab in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa. She will leave there Saturday and check back in at University in OKC to have surgery on her right chest for a mass they found during all this. We do not know what it consists of but are praying all is well. After mending from the surgery she will go back to rehab for a couple of months.

Ben, Janna and Genna are fine. Janna made the Dean’s Honor Roll for the Fall Semester. She also works full time. Congrats!!! Genna has been busy with band this semester. Steph, Herb and Connor will be moving back to their home in Fairview this summer. Herb does lots of traveling with his job and they would like for Connor to be in a lot smaller school system. Steph has her old job back at Ringwood for next year. Connor has been busy going to birthday parties lately and really enjoying it and has had a hard time deciding what to do for his birthday. Think a college baseball game won out.

I understand we have a family reunion planned for June 9th. I know some of us may not be able to make all of it as Amy’s son Randy is getting married that day. Don’ t know any details except the date. Until next time take good care and God Bless. Don’t forget the real reason for Easter.

Love to all,
Linda

From Jerry’s

Jerry and Teresa have been babysitting quite a bit for the last couple of months for Teresa’s brother and his wife as he has been pretty ill. Don’t think they really know exactly what is wrong yet. Evan has been playing tennis this semester and is also a waiter a couple of nights a week, for spending money, at a café in Wheeler.

The most important news in their family is they are now grandparents and uncle. They say they are spoiling him every chance they get.

Braden Mark Watson was born Feb. 17, 2001 to Chandra Watts and Jared Watson. He weighed 5 lbs. 2 oz and was 6 weeks early. He is still real small but is doing okay. If I remember right he was 17 inches long. Congrats!!!!

Report from Nancy’s Family:

Busy is the word! They stay so busy you have to make an appointment to visit with them on the phone! Nancy and Rhett went to Austin to help Heather move to the Dallas area. She is doing temp work until she finds a job. In Feb. she went to Boston as a chaperone. Was an enjoyable time and even got to do some judging of different speeches. The event was held at Harvard and there were over 3000 students from all across the U.S. there. There were even 4 from here in Cheyenne who went including the great-granddaughter of the lady I stay with. (Linda) Rhett has taken a job with Chase Manhattan Bank in Dallas as their Client Relations Mgr. and also does some of the investment banking for them. Congrats.

Haven’t heard from Richie and Judy but heard they got to keep granddaughter Baylee while Mom and Dad, Candy and Darek, went on vacation with his parents to Mexico. The last time I talked to Cameron they were doing pretty good. She had a round with what they thought was pancretitus but when they rechecked her they was nothing there. Prayers were answered. They will be moving back to Oklahoma in the late spring.

Talked to Amy on her birthday and she was doing okay.

Thank you to everyone whether you said a prayer, called, visited, sent flowers or just thought of us. We ask for your continued prayers as Tess goes through chest surgery and continues her recovery.

Tess, Curt and Linda, Ben and Family, Steph and Family.

From Heather;

Hey there. Not too much is going on here. Trying to find a job. Ha. Moved beginning of February to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Why? Just thought a change sounded good.

My new mailing address is:

Just got back from spending a week in Boston as a sponsor for a high school speech and debate team out of Houston for Harvard's National Tournament. Now I can say, "I went to Harvard." Ha Ha.

Hope all is going on your end. Tell everyone hi. Take care.

Dale’s Family

We arrived back home 3-14 after spending a week in Pampa. I traveled with Pete to Amarillo each day to help Monta & Bob clean the yards and house. Nancy, Randal, Jerry and Evan helped also. The yards look neat and we built a gate across the driveway at the rear of the house to keep pilferage down. With more work in the house, they will be able to have home health to help them out.

We had the good luck to see Loretta, Heather, Megan and Karen. They were in Borger at their mothers. Joyce took a fall on the ice and injured her back bad.

I talked with Gailia and they will be home only 6 months this year. From June 15 to just after Christmas. That will allow them to return in 2 years to help Nathan adjust to life in the states.

Oh yes, the company that Bruce works for hasn’t convinced him to work offshore yet. He likes being home every night. The river is above flood stage so they are wading water waist deep now. No, they have a john boat with a trolling motor.

We plan to go to Sheridan Ark. this next week for Frances son's wedding.

News from Idaho,

T. J. and I are both doing well and have survived the winter so far, however, winter isn’t over yet. We had lots of snow but not much moisture content and it is predicted we’ll have a water shortage for irrigation this summer.

Barbara and Dennis are taking a short vacation celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary to Las Vegas and the lower part of the Grand Canyon. Hopefully, they’ll be able to get away for short periods of time this year. Both are busy with their jobs and being grandparents.

Roger is doing well, has recently been on vacation doing some odd jobs around the house, taking some grievance training and will spend a week hearing grievances the last of March. He and his friend Pattie from Florida spent some time with us during the holidays and snowmobiled in Yellowstone Park. He and some of his fellow graduates from flight attendants school will have a reunion in Yellowstone Park the last of May and he will spend a few days with us.

Shannon, Kenneth and Little T. J. are fine. Shannon is feeling better than earlier in her pregnancy. Kenneth is working hard and his company treats him really well. Little T. J. is the joy of our lives such a cute sweet and smart little boy. Our new little one will be a girl and her name is Jordyn Lyn Jensen. She will be here in early June and will be a wonderful addition to our family.

Sharon is winding down on nursing school; graduation is in May. Of course she stays busy with her studies, as well as fixing up some things around the house. That gives her a break from the homework and also gets her house ready to sell. She still wants to move to Greenville--later this year. There will be lots of job opportunities for her there. Jason and Jeremy work on their cars a lot and maintain part-time jobs.

Mom apologizes for not keeping in touch with family members on Dad's side as much as she intends. She keeps busy with housework, sewing, and piano lessons. She also works outside--weather permitting--tree trimming some but mostly working on the pecan trees. Her friend David is currently on a 6-week trip. He has a pecan grove and took more than 400 pounds of pecans to sell in the northern states and will spend time visiting his son and family in South Dakota. She enjoyed having Cecil, Billy, and me in Altus for Christmas. She recently went to a Valentine's banquet at church and enjoyed it, as she does other senior citizen's programs there each month. (By the way, she gets the newsletter through Sharon, so it does not need to be mailed to Mom.)

As you just read, Cecil, Billy, and I drove to Wichita Falls and Altus for Christmas. The roads were clear practically the entire way. It was icy in Wichita Falls and snowy in Altus, but the roads there were quite manageable. We had pretty much planned to fly, but then Cecil's Mazda dropped dead in November, so we spent airplane ticket money on a down payment for a white 2000 Toyota Camry demo. Therefore, we drove instead of flying. It drives very smoothly and has cruise control, so that made the trip even more enjoyable.

Cecil got an upper respiratory infection while we were there; the previous Christmas he was very sick also. Cecil's sales in his job are increasing all the time. I'm waiting on pins and needles to hear if I got promoted or not. The job, if I get it, will be a "senior case technician" in the same office I work in. It will also mean another automatic pay increase a year later. I'm pretty optimistic about it, but I guess you never know what could happen. Billy is getting closer to getting his own apartment and a job. He has a job coach who will be working with him on obtaining a job. He's an avid reader and loves to compose stories--and does very well at it.

I did our federal taxes on-line this year and got our nice refund 12 days later. We paid off some bills and are looking at getting our sloped yard graded next. Then comes an asphalt driveway. There's always one project or another going on.

The Bradford pears and cherry trees are blossoming; Spring is so pretty here. Wish you could all see it. Soon there will be dogwoods blooming and then the azaleas.

Take care and keep in touch.

Elmeda's Family

Lloyd is ready to get out of the news making business and get back to work. He reported that he is now a graduate of the physical rehab hospital here. As soon as they figure out his blood thinners, his doctor will release him for work. Until then, he is getting caught up on his television watching and visiting.

Mom seems to be doing pretty good. She had Lowell’s son (Ben) up for spring break. If I had had more notice, I would have had some paint and brushes ready. Well, he got a break. Mom is ready for spring to bring some nice warm (not hot) weather. Some of her early bulbs are blooming nicely.

Jessie is getting by about the same; She was in New Orleans, Louisiana a week ago for a job fair. She is excited about a job possibility in St. Louis.

Lowell was up for a day to bring Ben. More information is in his letter below.

My family and I are doing great. John is getting Senior-itis. He will graduate from high school in May. He plans to work for the Boy Scouts again this summer, then attend Spartan Aviation School this fall in Tulsa. Rachel is finishing the 7th grade; she does horse riding two weekends a month through the Camp Fire program. Carol of course is staying extremely busy. Her aunt progressively requires more of her time as her health declines. As for me, the company that I have been with since Christmas has decided to put me on in a permanent position.

And again, I have been treated better than I deserve.

The news from Idalou:
New Jobs

I started a new job Feb 12. I still work for X-Fab Texas and still work in the same area but I work on the Process instead of the Equipment. I believe it to be a positive move for me. I have a lot more exposure in this new position which could either be good or bad depending on what kind of job that I do.

Dianne is presently attended Nail Tech School. She will be finished by the end of March and will take her State Board Test April 2. She is excited about this and is ready to get out on her own and get started.

Katie began working as a sacker at the newest United Supermarket in Lubbock Feb 24. She is not as excited about working as we are. It takes her away from her boyfriend (Randal: maybe you can talk to her) and there are school activities that she will miss out on, but she is planning to go to NYC in June with a group from Idalou. We told her that she needs to work to finance her trip. Parents can be so cruel. It is official that she will graduate in May. This is something that she is looking forward to. Her plans after high school are undecided right now.

Ben hasn't found a job yet, but his age is a limiting factor. He recently has been involved in basketball. That will keep him busy until April. Don't know what he will do this summer while everyone is working, I may ship him off somewhere to keep him busy. I am taking bids.

We all had a round of the crud except for Dianne, don't know how she missed it. It was a miserable around here for a couple of weeks.

Mom and Lloyd came down in January and then I went with them to Muleshoe to Webb Watts' 90-something birthday. I enjoyed the stories of the old days. We had a good visit with a few of our cousins that we don't see too often. Mom especially enjoyed the good ol' west Texas dust storm.

The Hip

As most everyone may know I fell out of a trailer that I was dropping at our yard at Kiefer, Ok. I was going to move some things around in the trailer I was going to drop. When I was getting into the trailer the door swung open causing me to fall, breaking my hip. That night I was there by myself and could not do anything to help myself. I didn’t know what else to do but to call out hoping that someone might hear me, and maybe they would help me. The neighbor was out in his yard burning his trash. He came and helped me. The lady across the road heard me and called the local police who came out and called an ambulance. I went to the Sapulpa, Oklahoma hospital and the next day I was moved to OKC. They put a pin in my left leg just above the knee and then put my leg in traction. After a week or so I was moved to an old folks home. I was there about a month. After I had my pin taken out of my leg, I was taken to a Rehab hospital for three weeks to learn to walk again. I got to go home just before Christmas. In the months of January and February, I went to an outpatient exercise program. I am now a lot better than I was even a month ago. I am now waiting for the last doctor to release me so I can go back to work. It now looks like early April. I want to thank all of you who have called or wrote me. It really meant a lot to me.

From Bill and Mary Watts

Greetings!

In January we met in Muleshoe, TX to celebrate the 97th Birthday of Webb Watts at the home of his daughter Joy Whitt. Enjoyed a great lunch and Uncle Webb's favorite, a Coconut Cream Pie. Everyone enjoyed visiting and telling stories. Uncle Webb is the only survivor of my Dad's brothers and sisters. We kept him busy getting all of the stories of by gone days. Among those attending were Elmeda, Lloyd and Lowell Elder.

On February 21st, Mary Lou Watts of San Francisco, California flew in to Amarillo for a visit and we had a quickly put together luncheon for her on Saturday February 24th in Canyon at the home of Elaine Peoples. Elaine is the daughter of Ruby Watts Crowley, who was a sister to my Dad Orb Watts. Elaine put together an elegant luncheon for us. She is a very good hostess and sweetheart. Thank you to Elaine!

Mary and I are working in the Denton area, selling mortgage protection insurance. We are out of town about 3 to 4 days per week, but we have been enjoying the spring weather the last few weeks down there. We take our 5th Wheel since the weather has warmed up.

Our Cousins Reunion will be the First Sunday in June (2002) so be planning ahead. We regret not having one every year, but it seems to work out better to have them every two years.
