Monta's Family

(Given by telephone to Linda)

Monta wants everyone to know that they are alive and kicking, just not very high. She has recently been in the hospital. She is now home and is doing pretty good. It seems that her medication was overloaded. The doctor took her off of most of her medications and will gradually add it back as needed.

They are having some renovations done to their house and Monta reports that it is coming together nicely.

The "kids" (dogs and cats) are all doing well. Marm is getting older and it is hard for him to get around, but he is still Monta's shadow.

Monta sends her love to everyone and hopes to see you before too long.

Monta and Bob have a new e-mail address: bobmonta@ntsonline.net

Love to all, Monta.

My, How Time Flies My summer went by quick beginning with an approved review of my Final Drainage Study of Filing 29, Stetson Hills in Colorado Springs. I spent more time on this study than anything else I did at Merrick. Usually, these reviews come back with all kinds of comments first time through so I was tickled.

Marian accepted a position with Vernon Regional Junior College (now Vernon College) and I began my search before taking the PE exam last April. The second week in June I moved Marian down here and scheduled a meeting with Texas Department of Transportation District office in Childress, a little over an hour commute from Vernon.

After leaving Merrick the last week of June, I took a break from my search and took Levi (along with a load to Vernon) down to see his newest cousin in Pottsboro. We stayed with Gene and Rita and visited the new parents, James and Kelly. Levi had a blast with Josh, Megan, Jessie, Dawn and a friend of theirs we think Dawn had a crush on. I also had a chance to visit with Dan Jr. and Sr. We spent the fourth in Vernon and passed through Pampa (spending the night with Ma & Pa) on our way back to Colorado Springs where I got confirmation I passed my PE exam.

I returned Levi to his Grandparents in Florence, Colorado and returned with the remaining load to Vernon and began searching again for employment. Three consulting firms in Wichita Falls told me they may need some help in a couple of months and asked I stay in touch. The City of Wichita Falls had five positions open but require their employees to live within twenty miles. I also paid a visit to Texas Department of Transportation office in Wichita Falls but found although they are short handed in Vernon, they are over their allotment in the District. The Civil Engineering Department out at Sheppard Air Force Base was downsizing.

I still had Altus, OK to visit and found ODOT in need of an engineer but still preferring a consulting firm, I paid a visit with Glen Briggs & Associates where I can now say I am gainfully employed. Altus Air Force Base went unvisited. It was my last choice and I was bracing to accept the position at Childress.

My first project was a refined drainage study of "the flats" otherwise known as "B" Street Drainage, Phase III. Flows were calculated and pipes sized to handle at least a five-year storm. I spent the next two months preparing plans. My first design goes out to bid on the 14th of October.

Another project I am working on involves drainage along a street widening project along Park Lane between Falcon and Tamarack behind the City Lake. At least this street has a little bit of fall that I can work with but alas the State of Oklahoma requires a fifty-year design for this major throughfare.

Having settled on Altus, I contacted my cousin Sharon who graciously invited me over to her mothers (Aunt Louada's), for lunch one day and I got to enjoy a delicious meal along with a little visit. Aunt Louada is still giving piano lessons, some of which she delivers. Her friend David brought fresh okra from his garden of which I took their word it was good. Sharon is trying to sell her house so she can try out her Nursing degree in Greenville, SC close to where her sister Jeanne and Cecil are.

Terry continues as a courier in Tucson struggling with keeping a vehicle up and running. He writes and records music in spare time with a little help from his computer. After my telling him it got up to a scorching 85 degrees in Vernon he informed me it reached 101 there and 85 degree nights were a welcome respite.

I haven't heard from my sister Carol in awhile and hope she is doing well. As far as I know, Roy Dean is still running the pumping business in Pampa.

Till next time,
Roy

Jerry reports they are all doing well. They vacationed for about 10 days in east Texas. Reported a good time doing nothing. Football season has arrived. Evan plays varsity each Friday night. He plays offensive tackle and defensive end as well as on the kick-off team and special team. Sounds as if he might be tired at the end of a game. Good luck, Evan. Chandra and family are doing well. Saw them recently in Elk and that little boy sure is growing and is a very happy baby.

Richie reports they are doing very good. Says he works 6days a week building planes (I told him to be careful who they were for). They are glad the weather has cooled off just a little. Camron and her boys have been really sick with allergies, sinus and asthma. They are much better now. Chandler is beginning to like school but was really tough on her at first. Orion likes it though. Camron said Cliff has his first big test today. He is going to college to be a pharmacist, think I reported a school teacher last time, sorry about that. No one reported on Candy and family so assume they are doing okay.

Nancy reports they are doing okay just real busy working at church, praying for a pastor and Heather a job. She also helps several little old ladies there in Groom. Sometimes you need an appointment just to talk to her on the phone, ha. She says Randal and Rhett are doing fine.

Linda's family is doing pretty good. Everyone busy with jobs, school, church etc. We met Ben, Janna, Genna, Steph, Herb and Connor at Clinton the 15th to celebrated Ben and Steph birthdays. Steph has had a hard week as she was first on the scene of a deadly accident on her way to school. The victim was one of her Jr. Students. Curt decided to not roughneck because when they finish drilling a hole lots of times there is not another location so he is working at the fertilizer company, it will be year around and he likes it. They are really busy right now. Conner started kindergarten and he informed me it was just the best day of his life. Needless to say he loves it.

The little lady I stay with turns 90 next week and her family is giving her a big party this weekend and they start arriving from everywhere on Wednesday so things are a little hectic and will be more so as the week progresses. There will be a reception in the afternoon and a family dinner that night. So far they have 91 rsvps. Just glad I don't have a part in that part.

Tess is to go to therapy 3 times a week. She is starting to be able to go out in public places by herself as long as it isn't real crowded. She will have surgery the middle of Oct. to raise the eyelid on her left eye. She has lost a lot of the ability to raise the lid and her eyebrow just won't move at all. They say time will probably heal her brow. The lid is interfering with her ability to see well.

The world as we have known it was changed forever. We pray for all the victims and their families. We never know what tomorrow will bring so we each need to have our hearts right with the Lord. Our hope and prayer is for everyone to be safe.

We love you all,
God Bless,
Linda

Sharon and Mom recently took a trip to San Antonio to see Mom's younger sister and family. The river walk was gorgeous and they had a very pleasant visit. Mom's car had been repaired so they took it and had no problems. Mom has also been busy putting up apples and pears and also making homemade fruit roll-ups in her food dehydrator.

Sharon's still busy working in the ICU/CCU at the county hospital, but is ready to venture out into a different area of nursing. She isn't sure what that will be, but she's perfectly willing to try something new while she's there and not wait until after the move to Greenville. Speaking of which, Sharon's still trying to sell her house. She had a new roof put on recently, which looks nice and should help it sell. She's willing to negotiate on the price or pay part of the buyer's closing costs. Unfortunately, the housing market is quite saturated in Altus, so it may be hard to sell. Meanwhile, she had to make a big purchase. Her car got to the point where it would need a major overhaul, so she traded it in for a small black Honda SUV!

Now that her house is all fixed up waiting for a buyer, she has time to sew some new uniforms and is in the mood for it. (It's all I can do to make myself mend a thing or two!) Jason (19) stays busy trimming trees for a living. Jeremy (17) is making good grades in school and should make the honor roll. The boys are avid hunters and are looking forward to turkey and deer season. They want their Mom to go hunting with them!

Just after the recent attacks, Cecil (now a professional chauffer) had to go with another guy to drive a team of surgeons in a limo bus to Ft Lauderdale. That was a long trip for them, but worth it in pay. He normally provides transportation to and from Greenville-Spartanburg airport, but of course could not for a while.

Billy will be moving into an apartment on September 20. It's a nice apartment close enough to the largest mall in town for him to walk to it, and close to some other shopping areas. He's applied to work as a bagger at a grocery store. They won't say "yes" or "no" to hiring him until he actually lives in his apartment, but we're optimistic. He had earlier worked at a different store in the same chain, so that should help. We've been shopping for items for his apartment. He's avid about putting together jigsaw puzzles, so we decided to frame some to decorate his walls. He put together two Thomas Kincade puzzles that each have a Scripture on them and we had them framed. He also put together a gorgeous puzzle of the Marriage Feast (in heaven someday) and we still have that one to frame. We're giving him the bedroom suite from our guest room.

Our church is close to voting on buying a beautiful, partially wooded 60-acre tract of land on which to build a new building. We are very much outgrowing what we have and there's no room to build onto where we are. It will be exciting. The new land is quite a bit closer to where we live than the current church location.

I'm glad Cecil's retired from the military, but his brother is Army National Guard (in missiles), and could very well be called up to fight. Who else out there in the family could this involve? Otherwise, all are happy and healthy here.

Love,
Jeanne, Cecil, Billy (and Mellow the cat), Sharon, Jason,
Jeremy (and Charlie the dog), and Louada (and Brownie the dog)

News from Lowell

It has been a hot dry summer here in Idalou. Had a cool wet spring then it got hot and did not rain for four months.

I guess Katie has the head lines in our area.

Katie is planning to be married to Michael Crump, July 5, 2002 here in Lubbock. Mark you calendars.

Katie started cosmetology school in July, will be through in the spring. Seems to be enjoying it.

Ben started the seventh grade. He is still participating in the band playing the french horn.

Dianne is slowly building her nail tech business. It started off good, and then slowed down during the summer months. Starting to pick back up again. A lot of Lubbock's economy depends on the Texas Tech students. Dianne is gaining repeat customers which is encouraging.

The company that I work for, as well as the rest of the semiconductor industry, and the total economy is going through a very slow time. So far, I have avoided layoffs and creative outsourcing. I did go to Dallas for a couple of weeks working for a vendor, trying to help them finish up a project for us. It was a real sweat shop. Please go out and buy a lot of electronic gadgets. Stimulate our economy and my paycheck.

All of our lives have been effected by the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. The people here in west Texas were in a state of panic Tuesday. There were even long lines at the gas stations. Let us never forget those innocent people that died tragically.

News from Oklahoma City:

Mom finally got rid of another property that she and Dad collected several years ago. She claims that she will eventually be out of the rent house business. That makes one less yard for Rachel to mow. Mom is doing fine, and hasn't hesitated in planting even more flowers in the garden. Maybe this year I will hide her flower catalogs so she can get some rest.

Jessie is doing better every week. She is still working and spends some of her time being a chauffeur for mom.

Lloyd seems to be back to 100% after his broken hip last fall. It is probably a good weather forecaster, but at least he is back at work driving coast to coast.

As with my family, Carol has really gone through some trying and stressful times finalizing the estate of her aunt. Even though the attorney did a lot of legal work, she had to do a lot of the foot-work.

Rachel is in the eighth grade this year. She is in the band and is playing a clarinet. The violin teacher moved on, and the school hired a teacher with band experience.

John is attending the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also working at a grocery distributor after school.

As always, God is blessing me in ways that I won't know or understand. My wife still likes me, my kids still tolerate me, and my boss keeps paying me, what more can I ask for.

The attack in New York and Washington D.C. is the news of the hour. Again some fanatics are wanting a body count, as did the people responsible for the attack on the federal court house here in Oklahoma City a few years ago. If they wanted to destroy property and make headlines, they would have done it at 2 AM in the morning. But, the evil that is hardened in their hearts has blinded them to the truth, and they have shown us by example that they are not willing to live in harmony, but to become a martyr for their cause, what ever it may be. We pray that the people of this world can put aside the politics and join to eliminate the evil people that murder innocent men, women and children.

Engagement

This is Katie and I have an announcement. I am engaged! His name is Michael and our wedding date is set for July 5th 2002. I really don't know what else to say. I just wanted to let everyone know!

Lots of love,
Katie

News from Idaho

T.J. had another heart attack on August 29, 2001, stabilized quickly and was discharged from the hospital on September 1st. He is doing as well as can be expected. I am ok, glad to get the long, hot summer and the end of the garden over with. The fall weather is most welcome and the flowers are just gorgeous.

The Eastern Idaho State Fair has come and gone and I was awarded a blue ribbon plus a "Best of Class" rosette on a 2 piece machine knitted dress. It is worth the time and effort to enter an article for a reward like that.

Barbara and Dennis are doing well, they spend a lot of time taking care of other people and they should spend more time taking care of themselves. Dennis's mother has not been well for several years and now has been moved to an assisted living center following a hospitalization and a pretty long time in a nursing home which should relieve Barbara and Dennis from a lot of stress and worry. They did spend a weekend in August attending Dennis's family reunion in Island Park, Idaho, which has been the only outing they have had all summer. They took Little T.J. with them and Shannon, Kenneth and Jordyn went for only a day.

Roger drove out here and spent a week or so with us which we enjoyed very much. He was here at the time of the hijackings. Thank God! Safe and sound. It is a good thing he had his car as he would have been delayed several days had he depended on airline transportation to go home. He doesn't go back to work until October 28th. We had some good times with our little family when Roger was here, enjoyed being together and the little kids sure spiced up our lives.

Shannon, Kenneth, Little TJ and Jordyn are fine. Shannon went back to work 7 weeks after Jordyn was born and both TJ and Jordyn have settled in nicely at the Day Care. TJ will be 4 years old in November and will start pre school at the Day Care in October, 2 hours 3 days a week and he is excited. He is a good big brother and has to stop what ever he is doing several times a day to go see about Jordyn. Jordyn is beautiful. She is 4 months and weighed 12 1/2 pounds at her last check up. She turned over by herself at 3 1/2 months and loves to stand up. These two little great grands are just perfect. Shannon relly likes her job, knows everybody in town and meets the public very well. Kenneth changed jobs. He is a milk hauler, long distance not but soon to have a local route. His previous employer is relocating to Salt Lake and that is too far to commute.

We are hoping to hear a lot of news in the newsletter. We always look forward to it.

God bless and keep everyone of you.
Virginia Patterson
