Fifth Reunion Cold & Wet

Approximately twenty four family members gathered at the home of Edwin Watts for a gathering Saturday, June 10. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves in spite of the unseasonably cold weather. It was 90 degrees Friday when I was working so hard to put up tarps for shade and then Mother nature provided ample shade and air conditioning too! It may have got up to 60 degrees during the heat of the day, Saturday.

A decision was reached for each family group to appoint an assistant editor to gather and report news and information they wish to share with the rest of us. Family activities, hobbies and "uh-ohs" make interesting reading for the rest of us. I suggested this news to be sent to Roy by the 15th prior to the season change, however I think Roy should make his own deadline. He puts the news letter out the first day of each new season. In the next issue, would you give us some guide lines Roy?

Elmeda suggested that we each share a memory of Mom and Dad (Richard Albert and Annie Mae Watts). At least one article for each issue. This would be a way of acquainting the descendents with their family origins. I think that is a great idea.

Bill Watts re-issued the invitation for us to combine the two reunions which was too much in one year (only joking Bill). The date for the combined reunion was tentatively set for Sunday, May 5, 1996. The facilities in Childress are excellent with a nice air conditioned building for our comfort and there is a nice shady park. Childress is the general area in which our recent ancestors settled. It is ideal. Should we feel the need to continue having reunions at Wheeler, we can leave that avenue open. Nothing is written in stone, as Bill says. Wherever we gather, it is good to visit with family.

Dale and Francis

Reunion Recap

I really enjoyed having everyone here. Those who were unable to attend were sorely missed. Dale has told you the important stuff, so I will fill in with some other stuff. Ed seemed to perk up and responded well to the company. Dale came early and worked really hard getting everything set up. We were ready for everything but the cold wind and rain. The rain stopped early in the day, but it stayed cold all day.

Virginia also came early and got in on the remodeling I had started a month too late to have done before the reunion. She insisted she was glad to have something to do. Nancy also spent some hard hours helping get ready for the reunion.

Dale, Frances, Virginia and I went to Palo Duro Canyon on Thursday night to see the musical drama "Texas". It was such a wonderful treat. Dale and Frances spent the night in the canyon in their motor home and was entertained by a real live thunderstorm scene from "Texas". Tornadoes ripped through parts of Pampa and Allison that same night. Pete's home was spared and they are all okay.

Nancy stayed with Ed while we were gone and moved my plants in from outside, where they had been since the remodeling began. The Mother-in-laws tongue stabbed her in the eye and she was having a terrible time with it. I talked with her this morning and it was better. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate my family. Each one of you are special in your own way and without you I would be lost.

I am looking forward to the reunion in Childress next year. That seems to be a more central location for everyone and the facilities are great. The food is well prepard and delicious, the arrangements are more convenient and there is something for everyone.

I am on the volunteer staff at the VA hospital in the lab. I havee kept my certification and studies current with the laboratory through continuing education, and by volunteering in the lab, I will have the opportunity to gain current experience. I may never get to work in the lab at the VA as a bonafide employee, but the experience there will enhance my chances for employment elsewhere.

Monta

Life in Tucson

Hi there! I haven't submitted anything in awhile and Roy keeps pestering me to do so. Well, I work in a window factory, shipping windows. Lots of windows. The company I work for has just completed the last two of eight buildings for us to work in. Each building is about 120' X 80' in size with two loading docks in each. They have 18 bay doors. Lucky me.

My main job involves shipping special order windows that customers in the stores have ordered (the stores that order all these windows) and these special order windows are never the same size. The paperwork piles up more and more everyday as they gain more customers. Sometimes I wonder if they are trying to take on the world as a customer. Trying to crate these odd size windows can be quite challenging. Also gives me a headache.

Adrianna is now 5 and will be starting school this fall. You can imagine how excited she is. Melissa is 3 and Rebecca 2. They all like to run and play and swing on the swings that we built for them. Since it gets hot here in the summer (110o - 115o), swimming can be as much fun for them.

Christie found a baby bird that had fallen out of a tree and is using a dropper to feed him. That has kept him alive and growing. We built a bird cage for him by taking an old lamp shade and using hot glue, glued a board to the bottom and screen around the sides and top. We glued a dowel pin in the center for him to perch on and a little house to perch on that we made out of sticks.

We were tired of paying too much rent money and decided to buy a house. We looked around quite a bit and found one that would cost less per month yet had 2½ times the space inside with a much larger yard than what we were renting. We were able to make a couple of extra bedrooms so each one of the girls have their own room now.

We even planted a garden and let Adrianna and Melissa plant their own little garden. Melissa planted her 20 different seeds all in one tiny little space. We might have to thin it out.

Patterson Update

After a mild winter, the spring season was slow in coming to Southeast Idaho with snow and below freezing temperatures the first week of June!

T.J. and I spent a week in April visiting Roger in Wheaton, Illinois which was very enjoyable.

T.J.'s health status is about the same as when he attended the family reunion in 1993. I am doing well, healthwise, and am busy with activities of daily living and craft projects, mainly machine knitting & sewing.

The Norwood's have been busy this Spring with wedding preperations for their daughter, Shannon, who is to be married to Kenneth Vensen on June 24th. Kenneth is a wonderful person and is a rancher with his dad. Shannon will send a news article later about the wedding and her new husband. Otherwise, the Norwoods are ok.

In May, Roger began international trips again. He commutes from Chicago to NYC for 4 day trips to Japan. Last month he picked up an extra trip to London and this month he picked up an extra trip to Caracas, Venezuela. We are excited he'll be here for a few days for the wedding.

I went to Texas for the Watts family reunion in Amarillo on June 10th and the Patterson-Pendleton- Bradswhaw reuion in Wheeler on June 11th. I had a good time and am glad I went. Plan to attend the cousins reuion in Childress on May 5, 1996.

Virginia Patterson,
Associate Editor

Assistant Editors

I look forward to working with my new Assistant Editors. This would make it more possible for me to keep these few current on where I am located. Until a company avails itself to my abilities, I'm afraid I'll be on the move. In the past it has been uncertain whether or not I would get everyones input in time for each edition due to my questionable location.

Contributions made by the week before the beginning of the season usually gives me enough time to put together that seasons edition. I don't always get it done but my goal is to distribute each edition on the first day of the season. Each assistant editor will need to make their own guidelines to allow them to make their deadlines. I would like to communicate with you more frequently, but I need to know who all of you are.

I look forward to seeing Elmeda's idea of getting at least one story about Richard Albert and Anna Mae (Hart) Watts into each edition of the news letter. It'll be a challenge but I feel we owe this to not only ourselves, but to future generations.

As it now stands, I'll be at this address in SeaTac Washington until the end of July. After that, I am uncertain, so if you could expedite letting me know who you are, I would be grateful.

The family scribe,
Roy A. Watts

News from Idalou

Dad recently celebrated his 78th birthday, Rachel her 7th. John will be a teenager on the 4th of July.

Mom, Joe and Rachel attended the reunion at Uncle Ed's in June. Katie, Ben and myself attended the reunion at Childress in May and was glad to see Dale & Francis, Pete, and Monta there also. (Bill, I still need to talk to you about those hail dents in my truck)

Katie took a tumble with a horse 20 May. It broke her right arm just above her wrist and scraped and bruised her. We are very thankful that her injuries are relatively minor.

Jessie is working at a nursery in Oklahoma City Oklahoma as a landscape designer this summer. Lloyd is still truck driving however he recently changed companies. I am still working the night shift and Joe has his steady employment.

John Migdat, Carol Elder's father, has been in ill health and should be remembered in our prayers.

By August, we hope to have moved into our new home. Our new street address will be 802 Dogwood.

Sincerely,
L Ray Elder
