Auto TinkersThe summer of 1995 proved to be fairly eventful for Ed and his family. We all enjoyed the family reunion at Daddy & Monta Faye's house this year, and I was so thankful that Daddy had a few good days where he could enjoy the hustle & bustle also.Time took its toll on Daddy's body and by the time he celebrated his 70th birthday on August 5th, he had been bedridden for quite some time. But, we celebrated anyway with balloons, streamers, chocolate cake and homemade ice cream. Daddy out did all of us in the eating department that day. Monta Faye grinds up all of Daddy's food now so he doesn't get choked as easily. She is such a wonderful caregiver and sister, besides being a very special aunt. We feel like God truly blessed us when He sent her to play on our team. I know there are days, though when the load seems almost unbearable and "Good Faye" has to remind herself that God is still keeping score. Lindy and Curt found themselves moving to Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the beginning of the summer into Curt's mother's house. Most of us know what a fun experience moving into an empty house is. But Mrs White's things were still in her house, so everything had to be sorted, packed and moved out so there would be room for Lindy & Curts things. Lindy is thinking about becoming a Home Health Care nurse. Ben & Tessa live in Clinton, Donna & her two children live in Altus and Sissy and Herb live in O'Keene, so they are all Okies for now. Richie and Judy have got exciting news-- they are going to be grandparents in December or January! This will be Camron & Ritchie Clark's first child. They live in Burden, Kansas where Camron graduated from high school this past May. Candy lives and works in Oklahoma City and is busy preparing for Aunthood. Judy enjoys being outside during the summer working in the yard, her flower gardens and a beautiful pond she dug herself. It is complete with a waterfall and lily pads! They are working on a greenhouse to winter the pond plants in but Richie leaves enough time each day to tinker some on his old cars. Right now he's working on a late 20's Dodge Coupe open wheel (no fenders) street rod. Jerry Bob is a busy guy. Chandra and Evan are both going to school at Wheeler this year where Chandra is a Freshman and plays in the band. The band parents are in charge of the concession stand at all the home football games. Evan enjoys sports and is a good student. Right now, he practices and plays football. Between working, cooking, keeping his home in order and the kids activities, Jerry also takes care of Mama's affairs. In his spare time he enjoys working on a '36 Chevrolet two door sedan that he's in the process of restoring. We all met at Jerry Bob's on Saturday, September 2nd to visit with Barbara Kay and Roger while they were down. It was so great to see them and with every get together, there's always too much food. God has blessed my family beyond measure this summer. On June 8th, I turned in my resignation after eight years at the Groom School Cafeteria, spending seven years as the Food Service Supervisor. I was trying to hold out until Rhett got out of college but God had other plans. He started prepaing me for the change last October knowing that He would have to start early on me since I tend to be a tad hard headed. People ask me what I'll do with all my spare time but so far there hasn't been any. When there is, though, I've got eight years worth of sewing and craft projects to work on and try to teach the third & fourth grades in Sunday School at our church. I get a real power surge from fixing up old things that others have cast aside, decorating our home and hearing from the kids. Randal still enjoys his job as a roadway maintanance supervisor for the highway department. He has lots of interests and hobbies but his latest toy is fixing up a '39 Farmall iron wheel tractor. God really got Randal's attention the end of July when we found out that a growth taken from his leg was malignant. On August 3rd, the surgeon made a two foot long incision in his right thigh to remove one whole muscle and part of another that the growth had been imbedded in. There were so many people praying and caring and God answered in a mighty way. All the cancer is gone! There is just no way you can measure a miracle like that. We are so very grateful. On June 4th, our children, Heather & Rhett, and Heather's boyfriend, Todd, honored us with a family gathering on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a very, very special day. Heather graduated from West Texas A&M University at Canyon in May 1994. She lives and works in Austin which is ten hours and too far from Groom. Her job is beginning to lean more towards marketing and design which she enjoys very much. Rhett just began his third year at WTA&MU. This year his major is gearing around the business, marketing and computer fields. He also works, stays very busy and visits his Papa and good Faye's kitchen often taking advantage of the free food. We don't get to see or hear from Amy very often. She was working the Home Health Care field and living in Hereford. News Flash: I talked to Monta Faye just recently and Amy had come by and was doing okay. Her son Randy was supposed to start his third year of college but his plans had changed and he was thinking about going to guard school. We're hoping all goes well for him. From all of us to all of you, we send our love. Nancy Den of TeachersNow that we all know I'm the slowest Watts this side of the Planet, I shall begin- hopefully not too late for this falls newsletter.Daddy "Kenny" and Frances are doing fairly fine. Dad is still working off-shore and once again thinking of retirement in 1996. God knows he deserves it, but in this day & age it's not that easy. Especially when nobody else sees him as retiring age, this list includes 'all' his family. He works harder for all of us than anyone. Frances has sure had more than her share of illnesses and minor surgeries this year. If she's not going to the Doctor for herself, she's taking someone else. I think her calling is Taxi Cab Service. However, she has a real character for a grandson, that's Jack. He thinks Bami & Granddad were created to entertain him. Jack is a very interesting young man (he's about 7-8 years old I think). It will be fun to see how he impacts the world around him. Loretta is still in Colorado. She's had some back problems in the past couple of months that demanded bed rest. She's doing better, but she's like some of the rest of us, we sort of think this body of ours is invincible. We're finding out it's not. Loretta Her husband, Robert is still building some of the most beautiful homes you've ever seen. Mom saw the last home he completed- it's apparently something we would imagine in a dream! Robert is working on a house also for themselves to live in. As I have mentioned my mom, Joyce, I'll include her in this letter. She is currently working in Lufkin, TX, at the State school. Lufkin is a great town, she loves it, however, sometimes the job gets very stressful. I believe it tries every emotion a human has. Her health is good and spirit is high. Gaila and her family will be returning home in April 1996. I'm sure they will have a wealth of info when they return. They've also been to Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. I think for the most part they love it in Taiwan. Justyn, their oldest son, spent some time in Florida with his grandparents this past summer. He was pretty homesick, young and I think needed to do some soul searching. I was excited to hear he was glad to be reunited with this family in Taiwan. Bruce & his family are also doing well. Bruce works himself crazy. We girls have worried about him for years. He too still believes his body is invincible! A couple of hernia surgeries have not slowed him down at all. Bruce is also thinking of a job change. He's trying to get on with the Railroad. We all like the idea, but don't like the idea it would probably require him moving to Arkansas or somewhere else out of Texas. Last of all is my family. Ron has made a job change during the summer. He's no longer driving a gas truck, after ten years, he's now begun bee farming! (It brings back some memories of Grandpa on the farm). He works with a fine Christian family we have known several years who actually own the business. Neil has worked for the same people three summers now. He let Ron know that he (Neil) was the one with seniority but Ron just reminded him that he live under his (Ron's) roof and would have to come home sometime. I'll be homeschooling again this year too. This year will demand a greater degree of commitment from all four of us. We've had a main thrust of serving God first, academics second. It's so good how God continually opens doors and confirms the direction we've taken. Cheri' will continue her working with children and Neil is pursuing Architecture. Well, I'll close for now. I could go better in depth but I'll not bore you with details just yet. Plus- my daddy know's I can talk forever! He's requested (in a subtle manner of course) that I keep this brief. So, dad, this quarter is brief for you. I'm not promising anything from here. We love you guys and we'll see you later. Love, Richards TribeIn June, Louada and her older sister, Lila, went to San Antonio to visit their younger sister, Phyllis. They went to SeaWorld and the Riverwalk and had a great time. On the way down, noticing some of those black and white dairy cows, Aunt Lila mentioned that her granddaughter calls them "Dalmatian cows"! Louada fills her time giving piano lessons and also irons for people. She enjoys tending her vegetable garden, berry vines and nut & fruit trees.Sharon is in her final year of a two-year RN program at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus. It's tough and stressful for her but she's hanging in there. She attends classes during the week and works weekends as an LPN at the county hospital in Altus. There's not much time for hobbies. Jason and Jeremy finally talked their Mom into letting them spend the school year with their dad in Turney, Missouri. If they were going to do that any year, this was the best one, with Sharon's final year of RN school being so challenging. The boys have made some friends there and are having fun. Jeremy is now in the the fifth grade and Jason the seventh. Jeanne still works at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas teaching in-service training courses to other instructors. She has just celebrated 21 years of civil service-- (nine years at Altus AFB and twelve years at Sheppard). My how the time flies! After work hours, she enjoys time with her boyfriend Cecil, walking, reading, sewing, doing some embroidery, flower gardening and playing her dachshund Heidi. Jeanne The Family StoreHey, everybody! I've got an idea. How about making available a few items pertaining to the family to the family. One such item could be a baseball cap with "WATTS" or "Watts News" in the style as it appears in the title of this newsletter.Another item might be a tee- shirt with the top ten reasons why we don't contribute to the letter with the number one reason being "Is it that time already?" or "But the last one just came out three months ago!" What I would really like to do is have a jigsaw puzzle made up from one of the family photo's. It could be 500 pieces, 1000 pieces or 10,000, well maybe not 10,000 but it would be neat to have such a puzzle put together, glued and hung on a wall. Of course the proceeds would go towards paying for all this stuff and what is left over could help cover the expense of putting out the newsletter. The newsletter doesn't have to be four pages either. It could be eight provided the input warranted it. Ponder it a night or two, ok a few, and let me know what y'all think. Head Ed, Christmas WishNancy has suggested we share our Christmas wishes through the winter edition of the newsletter. On the index is a list of who I believe are my assistant editors. I'll keep these people posted on where I'm at so you will have a contact or informant. I'm open to anything you want to throw at me, except that tomatoe. The newsletter is intended to be an outlet for the family to other members of this family that do care about how there kin is doing. Just something else for you to think about. Roy |
