Jeanne’s Report

Louada continues to fill her time between doing alterations and mending for people, giving some piano lessons and doing a little ironing for people.

Sharon passed her state nursing boards (of course) and works in ICU at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. She works 3, 12 hour shifts a week and gets 4 days off (but not consecutively).

Jeremy decided to come back to Altus to live with mom and we’re thrilled about that. Jason chose to stay in Missouri with his dad. It’s going to be hard for those boys to be apart. We hope and pray that Jason will also decide to return to Altus where he belongs.

Cecil is trying to fill the void as a father figure (role model) for the boys. He’s taken them to Six Flags, gone fishing with them twice, ridden go-karts, etc, while both boys were in Altus for the summer.

Cecil has applied for an open day job with the post office. He works at the main post office nights as a mail processor. He sure would like to be home overnight with his bride.

I am continuing my 21-year civil service career at Sheppard AFB. Although my primary job is teaching, right now I am tasked with converting our tests from paper-based to paperless testing. I enjoy being off my feet and working on the computer.

In the last newsletter, I mentioned an upcoming Acapulco mission trip. That was June 8-15 and it was very successful and very rewarding. About 18 people from various churches went to the older, poor mountainside part of Acapulco. There were 7 new churches started, 197 conversions and 3 new Bible training centers begun. The weather was so hot and muggy and we were very tired every day but it was well worth it.

We’re all settled in my house, but very somewhat crowded with all our stuff in one house. I guess we need to have another garage sale. We’ve had very few adjustment problems in our marriage. I guess being kind of older helps. We’re very happy. More next time.

Thanks,
Jeanne Hart

Working at Last!

My contribution to the Newsletter, will be short and sweet this time. I have retired my computer for the duration of the remodeling, and I miss it!

Through a combined effort, Ed and I should be nice and cozy this winter. Pete had started getting things ready, then came down with the shingles, again, so he missed out on all the fun. Frances done a superb job of keeping the house running, Dale learned how to install windows and I ran around like a termite in a yo-yo.

I was up and down, around and about, but didn’t get much done. Some of Ed’s off-spring put in a couple of hard days over the week end and learned the same lesson that Dale, Pete and I learned. "It takes longer to do anything than it does to talk about it." ha. They done good. I just haven’t finished with my part. I am trying to do the sheetrock work inside. The new windows are shorter and wider than the old ones. It’s looking good.

I really enjoyed Elmeda’s visit. She seemed to enjoy setting out where the work was going on and visiting with us. I am looking forward to more visits at any time she feels like coming up.

Of course it’s hard to stay hooked up to cutting, taping and floating sheetrock when my feet hardly touch the floor. I am now a WORKING WOMAN! Full time and permanent even! If it sounds like I am bragging, I am. An opening came available, because of a promotion, in the lab at the VA. I applied and got the job. I felt strangely calm through most of the waiting time. I began making preparations ahead of time. The day the lab director called to make sure I could handle the schedule, because of Ed, I was interviewing people to take care of Ed while I worked. I felt like that if this was the job God wanted me to have, everything would fall naturally into place and it has. My biggest concern was the fact that I would be drawing blood and I hadn’t done that since I messed up my hand. I had to take me down and give me a good talking to. "If this was the job God intended for me to have, then I would be capable of performing all facets of that job." And I have.

My parents and God are responsible for all the good that I am. I, alone, am responsible for the bad. With that thought in mind, I’ll bid all a good night.

Love,
Monta

Blackfoot News

We have had a good summer in Idaho - a nice growing season with a fairly productive garden and pretty flowers.

The highlight of the summer was the company we’ve had. Bill and Mary Watts were here for a couple of days. They had been to family reunions in Utah and continued their trip through our part of Idaho to Yellowstone and Teton National Parks before heading on home via Denver. It was wonderful having them.

Our old friends of 38 years, Selma and Kenneth Howard, who now are retired and living in Desert Hot Springs California, spent a few days with us and we always enjoy being with them. Also, Roger came in early September to stay a few days. The Eastern Idaho State Fair was in progress then which is a big event for Blackfoot and we spent an interesting day and evening there. We also drove up into the mountains north of Blackfoot - such beautiful country.

Barbara and Dennis are doing well. They spent most of the spring and summer finishing their basement which is now beautifully done with lots of room, storage space, bath and utility rooms and Barbara’s work room for all of her tole painting projects. Dennis is leaving soon on a Salmon fishing trip, much deserved, on the Frazier River in Canada.

Shannon and Kenneth are fine. Kenneth is now working as a shop foreman for an agricultural irrigation company and is doing well. Shannon is continuing her education at ISU in Pocatello and commutes 5 days a week. Hopefully, before winter, they will move a manufactured home onto an acre of ground on Kenneths father’s farm and they are excited about that.

TJ seems better this spring and summer. He is outside a lot in the fresh air and sunshine doing some odd jobs and repairs.

Roger is still on vacation and I went home with him to spend a few more days with him. We drove up to Wisconsin to Lakes Geneva and Sconomowoc and Kettle Moraine State Park - very pretty, rural country. Later this month Roger will be flying to South America and has bid for Japan trips next month.

On my way home from visiting Roger, I went to Oklahoma City to visit Elmeda for a couple of days. I found everyone there in good health and good spirits and enjoyed my visit there.

Hope everyone has had a good summer.

Snakes

Most of you, at one time or another has had the experience first hand of encountering a snake of one kind or another. Terry’s first encounter turned out to be a water-dog and although Steve and I didn’t know any different, we now think back on it as humorous. We had been warned about snakes, particularly rattle snakes and I developed a healthy respect for them.

After telling her about running over snakes when we encounter them, Mom worried we would get poisoned changing a tire thinking a fang could get hung up in the tire. Although I didn’t pay much mind to it the thought did stay at the back of my mind.

This last spring when Robert (Shelly’s son) and I went after Levi, Chad presented a gardener snake which he and Levi had captive. Having come down a muddy road, Monica brought out the hose to wash of the windshield so we could see on our way back to Pampa.

Just this past week, I’ve encountered more snakes than I have all summer. The unusual amount of rain we have been getting could be the cause of this as snakes climb to higher ground away from their natural habitat. Anyone else out there care to share their experience with snakes? I’m all ears.
