The Holderman'sOn the eighth day of May, nineteen hundred and ninety seven, Ms. Monta Boyd and Mr. Robert (Bob) Holderman were united in holy matrimony and are currently residing at 606 S. Prospect St with her children, Gretchen and Marmaduke. The Holderman children have remained in their home until such time as seems fitting to introduce the two families. Everything is still the same--except the name.Monta Holderman The Elder ClanThis has been an eventful spring in the Elder family. Elmeda's right hip was replaced on April 8. She is walking very well now with the aid of a cane or walker. Her operated leg is now her 'good' leg since her unoperated leg has been bothering her. Her doctor says it will be okay for her to take the trip to Idaho in June. we know she will enjoy the vacation. Her doctor is very good and he has said that she definitely will need the surgery for her left hip some time in the future. We don't know yet when the left hip will be replaced. Mom got out of the hospital April 30 and was at the Cousins Reunion in Childress May 3, way to go! Jessie is doing very well in graduate school at the University of Oklahoma. She just completed her first year of a two year program. When she finishes, she will have a Master of Regional and City Planning. She has no definite plans after completing her degree. She is currently employed by the City of Oklahoma City Planning Department as a Planning Intern. We'll just have to wait and see what develops. Lloyd still drives a truck all over the country-- lower--48 for Trans State Lines (TSL). Rita, Christi and Vicki are living in Oklahoma City now so the girls get to see their daddy occasionally. Christi and Vicki are enjoying their school. Lowell, Dianne, Katie and Benjamin are still at Idalou, TX. Lowell still works for Texas Instruments in Lubbock, TX nights but has taken a day job doing drawings for another company in Lubbock. Dianne worked many years for United Supermarkets in Lubbock but quit recently to enjoy more time at home and sell Mary Kay. Dianne is doing very well with the Mary Kay products. Good for Dianne! Katie and Ben are doing great in school. Joe, Carol, John and Rachel are still in Oklahoma City. John's graduation from eighth grade was very nice. John is very active in Boy Scouts and travels on some wonderful trips with them. He went on some kind of expedition in Minnesota last year. This year, he is going to Washington, DC. Sounds great! Rachel is active in Camp Fire and ballet. She's a real go getter. She sold lots of Camp Fire candy this year. We're proud of all the kids. We were excited to see all of Dale's bunch at Childress. Jessie Elder News from IdahoAll is well in our area at the present time and none of us are in any danger from flooding nor do we expect to be. However, the Mighty Snake River is expected to flood in some local areas.Shannon and Kenneth have moved into their new home and are very happy with it. All of us are very happy about them expecting their first child on December 25! Barbara and Dennis have been busy helping to get everything done in preparation for Shannon and Kenneth's house. Barbara and Shannon are making all the floral arrangements for Dennis's niece's wedding in Klamath Falls, Oregon on June 21 Besides all the work all of them have done for our 50th Wedding Anniversary party on June 28 which we are all looking forward to. We will be especially glad for all the company we will have during that time. Roger is doing good - flying 4 day trips to Japan and Argentina with an occasional 2 day trip to Venezuela. I am sorry to have missed the cousins Reunion. I am sure it was superb. Virginia Patterson Hello EveryoneWe wanted to take this opportunity to announce another special addition to our family! Baylee Madison was born on May 5, 1997, to her proud parents, Derek and Candy (Watts) Johnson. Baylee weighed 7 lbs 1 oz at birth and was 20 ½" tall. Her favorite things, at the moment, are eating and sleeping. We all think she is precious and beautiful and perfect--that includes her Grandpa and Grandma, Richie and Judy.Derek, Candy, Baylee live in Edmond, OK, and Ritchie, Camron (Watts), and 17-month old Chandler Clark are in the process of moving back to Hammon, OK from Burden, KS. Chandler is very quick to imitate everything you do, and she loves her new little cousin, "Bay." Lindy, Sissy and Connor came up and spent the night recently. That was so neat! Connor celebrated his first birthday on April 28th and he is a happy, active little boy that loves to play in the water. Sissy and Herb are doing great. Tessa had her foot operated on about a month ago. Thee doctor shaved a bunion off and straightened her big toe. Lindy said there hasn't been much pain with it but I just heard that it may take 5 weeks for it to heal instead of 4. Tessa is recuperating at Lindy and Curt's in Cheyenne. Ben still works in Oklahoma City and is doing good. He visits his girlfriend, Janna O'Dell and her daughter, Genna as often as he can. They live in Clinton. We get to see them when they visit Janna's folks in Amarillo, so that is always a treat. Jerry Bob is as busy as always. He still works for West Texas Gas in Wheeler. Chandra has been busy with church camp and Evan has really enjoyed the baseball season. They are all getting excited about their trip to Idaho. They will represent our family at TJ and Virginia's 50th Wedding Anniversary party. We would all love to be there for them, as TJ, Virginia, Barbara and Roger have always been so special to our family and we love them dearly. We all send our best wishes. I just know they will have a super special day and we surely regret not getting to share it with them in person. Coming home, I believe Jerry. Teresa and the kids may follow Monta Faye and Elmeda partway. He may have to drive everyone home after Monta Faye gets off that donkey at the Grand Canyon. Amy recently moved to Kansas and seems to like it really well. Her son, Randy, just got promoted to Assistant Manager at the grocery store in Wheeler. We are really proud for him. Randal, Heather, Rhett and I are all fine and staying busy. Randal will go back for what we hope is his last MRI x-ray on his leg the 21st of July at 9:30 AM. Please be in prayer about that. Heather is terribly disappointed with her job in Austin. The company hasn't come through with any of their promises and all the stress is affecting her health. She is sending out feelers and resumes and hoping God will bless her with something closer to home. Rhett is going to both summer school sessions at WTAMU in Canyon and then after the fall and spring semesters, he will graduate with a business degree next May. Right now, his main prayer is for a cheap, good car that runs and will last him for 2 or 3 years. I'm in the process of finishing up my first year as a school secretary. And, just as he promised, God has been with me all the way. He even helped me to refrain from hitting that computer with the hammer several times. My new year begins Friday, August 1st. We hope all is going well with each of you and we send our love, Nancy Update: Ben just told me that Lindy & Curt are planning on returning to Wyoming in the near future to work on the pipeline. They were going to take Tessa with them. Curt will operate heavy equipment and Lindy & Tessa will hire on as helpers. They told a man in Wyoming that they could be ready to leave Cheyenne, OK within 24 hours of receiving a call. We hate to see them go so far, but we want them to be happy. Puzzles Galore![]() Anyone interested? I am now taking orders. Send your name, address and three dollars to: Roy A Watts Please allow six to eight weeks for delivery. I am hoping to have the second edition ready for publication by this fall. Summers are usually the busiest time of the year for me so I don't think I'll be getting much done in this department till then. I have most of the puzzles worked out. Right now I am in the process of converting file formats. I will keep you posted when it becomes available. For those of you who have access to the internet, my e-mail address and home page address are located in the header of this newsletter. I will be posting updates regularly so you may want a bookmark here! I also intend to start up a page for this family. I'll keep you posted here as well. As far as e-mail addresses go, I have been unsuccessful contacting Roger Patterson at 71602.3243@compuserve.com and 70672.3603@compuserve.com for L. Ray Elder. Did something happen to these addresses? A new e-mail address I have recently acquired is docreed@texoma.net for Danny "Doc" Reed, JoAnn's eldest son. I am also in the process of making a home page for Watts News. Back issues of Watts News (or at least the articles) could be downloaded from here. A link would allow access from this page to Puzzles Galore but not vice versa if I can figure out how to make this work. I would like to make one area on this page available for a forum, i.e. you posting your thoughts or ideas or even stories. Anyone else have an e-mail address or a homepage they would like placed in a future edition of the newsletter? Let me know and I'll get it in here. As usual, my address appears in the heading of the letter. It now includes info for my homepage and e-mail. Technology is advancing and we might as well take advantage of it. Your editor, LaddergramsInstructions for solving Laddergrams are given on page 54 (the Fall issue in '94). Enjoy!

Mahan ReunionThe Mahan clan began gathering at the Quanah Community Center in Quanah Texas Saturday morning July 5th, 1997. This clan, I later learned, has been getting together since 1947. This first meeting was held at Jody Mahan's cinder block house in Acme just west of Quanah. Coffee, punch, fruit and sweets were made available while the clan shared events in their lives and ancestors.I met a few members of the clan that have done some extensive research on their forebears and the forebears of others. One had brought a book that a cousin had put together some time ago. Very impressive! I showed off our newsletter to the family and some seemed interested in getting one started for their clan however I didn't volunteer to do this. That evening the Cattle Call Restaurant of Amarillo brought a feast of barbequed pork ribs, sausage, briscket, coleslaw, potatoe salad, beans, Texas size bread, dill pickle chips, tea and apricot marmalade (which I am told is excellent on barbequed meats). "Kraker Jack" Western Band out of Amarillo set up for the evenings dance and we danced to our hearts content. I'll have to admit I didn't know any of these folks (none of them knew me) but they quickly began telling stories of visiting Grandma and Grandpa's farm in Wheeler. Several stated they remember Uncle Dale and Aunt Monta. Some remembers Dad and Aunt Elmeda. Anyway, I was made welcome to the clan and was instructed to tell the rest of our bunch we would be welcome to join them every year. Over a hundred family members were present during this evening meal and nearly fifty returned on sunday. Names and addresses (and e-mail addresses) were exchanged. A database is planned for internet shipment. In another article I stated the need to utilize our computers. Here is one big advantage. The reunion was organized by Beth Roy, Vice President; Sandie Poole, Secretary & Treasurer; Lucille Lindsey, Reunion Committee and Shirley Pitts, Reunion Committee. Oriville Douglas Mahan was called upon under what he explained were extinuating circumstances to orate the evenings presentation. How are we connected to this clan? You don't have to go back very far to find a common ancestor. She is my Dad's, mothers, mother. General Lane Hart married Mary Ann Mahan sister to whom many referred to as "Pappy". All in all, reunions differ from family to family. This one has a motto "We are family" and a coat of arms which shows a charging lion, charging-a leader, and lion-kingly. Roy A Watts Fiftieth AnniversaryOn June 28, 1997, T.J. and Virginia Patterson clebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with an open house hosted by their children, Roger, Barbara and Dennis and their grandchildren, Shannon and Kenneth at the Jason Lee Memorial Methodist Church from 2 to 4 p.m. The kids arranged a family tree in picture form, decorated the Fellowship Hall with gold balloons and streamers, had a beautifully decorated cake made to be served with coffee and a delicious punch to around 100 people who came to celebrate the ocassion. We received so many cards, letters, pictures, gifts, phone calls and flowers from our many friends and relatives and we appreciate every one of them and shall treasure them always. Barbara and Shannon did a photo album of the past and present and the guest list and cards will put the finishing touches to it. The whole ocassion was just wonderful and we were deeply touched by all the love and caring shown by everyone. Lots of pictures were taken which we will share with many of you. Best of all was the enjoyment of haaving some of you family here. My sisters, Monta (Watts) Holderman from Amarillo and Elmeda (Watts) Elder from Oklahoma City, Rachel Elder from Oklahoma City, Katie and Ben Elder from Idalou, Texas, our nephew Jerry Watts, his wife Teresa and children, Chandra and Evan from Wheeler, Texas - so, along with our immediate family, Roger, Barbara and Dennis, Shannon and Kenneth made quite a family get together. Our friends of 38 years, Selma and Kenneth Howard from Desert Hot Springs, CA are here. We were also honored to have our favorite minister and his wife who served our church in the 60's and who were in the area at the time for a family reunion and who are now retired in Penney Farms, FL. The Texas and Oklahomans were having a good time on their trips and seeing lots of the country. Monta and Elmeda and the children went south from here and Jerry and family went north and east and will return via our house on their way back to Texas.
