Greenville, South Carolina

Hello from Greenville, South Carolina! Cecil, Billy and I arrived on February 8 and I have been busy unpacking and settling in. God has opened doors right and left before and since our arrival. As you may recall, Cecil became weary of being "a disgruntled postal worker" and set out to be a happy golf pro. His dreams are coming true! He was hired to work at a very swanky, gated, executive golf course on a mountaintop in Northwest South Carolina. It's called Cliffs at Glassy. He begins work there on March 15th.

God has blessed me with a job also. I was hired on my first and only interview, at Bausch and Lomb. It's a temporary, administrative job in the Engineering Department. In the meantime, I'll check on civil service vacancies in the area so I can finish my 25 years (I only need 1« more) and take early retirement.

Billy's adjusting well. He was a big help on the trip, keeping me from falling asleep at the wheel. That reminds me -- on our trip we visited with 3 of Cecil's aunts and discovered that his dad's family came from around Hartsville, South Carolina! Doesn't some of that sound familiar!!

We've already found us a good church. We were suprised to join only the second one we visited, although we did visit it several times before joining.

The scenery is so pretty here, even in the winter. We look forward to the other seasons here, especially Fall foliage.

Mom, Sharon and Jeremy are doing well in Altus, as is Jason, in Missouri. They had no news and knew that we has so much to say that they gave us their space, I guess.

Here's our address and phone number:

Keep in touch! Roy, may your marriage be as happy as Cecil's and mine is!

The Elder family is still holding on. Keeping up with kids, parents, spouses, work, school as well as the day to day task keeps us going hopefully in the right direction.

Let us not forget the Watts reunion at Childress on the First Sunday in May, someone had mentioned before that our branch of the family should get together the night before and visit. If this is still the plan, please let someone know.

Lloyd is now driving for Glaizer Trucking out of Keifer, OK. He came thru here March 3 and ate Lunch with us.

For those with internet access check out The Shop and search the site for John Elder, I found him a couple of places. Search Idalou Middle School for pictures of Katie.

    Renovations & Innoculations

I thought I had better make myself sit down long enough to let ya'll know how we are all doing. These deadlines come around way too fast.

To back track a bit, we all spent Christmas in Wheeler with Jerry, Teresa, Chandra & Evan on the 20th of December. We were missing Amy, Montie and Camron's Ritchie, but we had a great visit, gift exchange, and way too much food. Jerry & Tresa had been working on their house. They had taken the paneling off the North wall in the living room, spread joint compound over all the walls in the Living Room, then painted, so now it has that Southwestern, Western look.

Then Teresa changed the furniture around and decorated it and the kitchen. It really looks great! They were thinking about window treatments and carpeting next and then their bedroom. It's one of those things you never quite get finished with. They stay busy with the kids activities.

Evan is involved in every sport and does very well in each one. He's also getting very tall. Chandra still works at the grocery store, and, being a Junior this year, is on the Prom committee. She has been dating a young man from Canadian for 5 months. Chandra says, "That's a long time."

Lindy and family are all doing good. Tessa has had that carpal tunnel problem in both her hands. She is about fully recovered from the surgery on one hand. She will have the other hand fixed on April 9th. They get to see Donna fairly often and enjoy watching her kids play ball.

Ben, Jana and Genna are doing well. They are searching out new job opportunities and looking forward to moving to a bigger place in July.

Sissy, Herb and Connor are all okay, also. Herb went for a job interview recently in St. Louis, Missouri as a Sales Representative for Federal Express. At the time of this writing, he hadn't heard back from them yet. Lindy had been working 2 days on and 2 days off sitting with that little elderly lady, but was fixing to go back to 7 days on and 7 days off. That will be much better for Lindy, as it will give her more time to rest up and do projects around the house. Curt is working with the Upper Washita Soil Conservation District in Cheyenne and really likes the job. He started out as part time, but works all day now.

Not too long ago, Richie had the flu really bad and finally went to the doctor. He told them he could take any kind of medicine but he just couldn't do shots. He finally had to tell them that he was allergic to those shot needles and he would pass right out. The doctor told him that he could either have a shot or die. Richie asked if it would hurt, and that doctor said "You bet it will, and it will hurt for about a week, but your flu symptoms will be better by this afternoon. It was one of those drop your drawers type shot and the nurse wasn't taking any chances, so Richie had to crawl up on the table, besides.

Judy is having day-surgery on March 27th at the Clinton hospital. The doctor is going to fix her knee and also take a tumor out of her back. He doesn't think it has any fingers, but will send it off to be sure everything is ok. She will be down about a week and we are hoping all goes well with her. It has been hard doing grand- motherly type duties with a bad knee. Judy wants to be in top shape in jig time, because Camron is expecting again in July. Chandler thinks she will like having a baby brother or sister. Candy, Derek and Bailee are all okay. They stay pretty busy and Bailee is trying to walk. Richie says he can sit for hours and watch these grandkids.

We are perking pretty good these days. I had some back problems around Valentine's Day because I hadn't been taking care of myself and resting properly, but I'm doing much better now. We have been working on the church parsonage and looking for another pastor since October. It has been such a joy for me to be on that committee and truly see God in action during this process. Our new pastor's first Sunday will be March 29th. We are very excited about that. Also, Heather became engaged to Todd Spiva, her boyfriend of 3 years, on Valentines Day. They are planning a fall wedding. And Rhett is graduating from WTAMU in Canyon on May 16th at 2:00 pm with a Business degree. He may go on for his Masters but hasn't decided for sure yet. So we have many, many things to be thankful for and be excited about. Randal just returned from a conference in Laredo where it was 83ø. Here, it was cold and rainy. There is going to be some changes made in the highway department, but he thinks it will be better and he still likes his job.

We heard from Amy right before Christmas. She and Montie have moved back to Hereford and they are glad to be back. Randy thrives on his job at Wheeler grocery store and is doing well.

I must close for now. We love each and everyone of you.

    NEWS FROM IDAHO

After a long dreary Winter, we hope Spring will finally come as is the case every year. Sometimes, this time of the year I feel like a hibernating bear - ready for something new and different and anxious to get outside in the fresh air and sunshine - the sunshine having been absent for most of the winter.

Shannon, Kenneth and little T.J. are doing fine. The baby is busy growing weighing over 14 pounds and is now 24 inches long. He is such a joy to all of us. We manage to see him at least once a week and can't believe the changes in him. We haven't had a baby around our house for over 24 years so it is exciting to have the little one. Both parents are way too busy - Shannon going to school part time to get that last class she is lacking and working part time and Kenneth spends long hours on the road hauling potatoes in from various places to the processing plant.

Barbara and Dennis are busy being grandparents and doing all those handy crafts that they do so well. Dennis is making another cradle for an expectant niece and Barbara is going to do some tole painting on it.

Roger is doing some grievance work for his union and has been on vacation for the last couple of weeks and is doing some inside work in his house. During the early spring he will be doing some landscaping with lots of perinneal plants and shrubs. He has a hot line to his Master Gardener mother!

T.J. and I are OK - escaped all the winter illnesses that usually goes around. However, I did have shingles on my face the first of the year with no aftermath. We get out quite a bit so as not to suffer from the 'winter blahs' plus there is plenty to do at home to keep us busy.

Love to all and we look forward to hearing from everybody via the Watts Family Newsletter.

    Spring Break

With a flash, Spring Break came and went and was enjoyed by most. The weekend preceding Spring Break, we celebrated my birthday. Shelly, Levi, Marian and I roller bladed around Medi-Park in Amarillo, played a few games of tennis and went to Pizza Hut (my choice of restaurants) along with Marian's folks, Virgil and Ann Belcher. Shelly returned to Pampa with us for the weekend, attended my Sunday School class and, as Levi is the age group I try to teach, all four of us were in it together.

The choir has been practicing for an Easter Special. Those in the vicinity and interested in hearing Marian, Levi and I sing along with the rest of the choir are encouraged to attend. A continental breakfast will be served across the street from the First Church of the Nazarene located at 500 N West St. Pampa, Texas in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The Worship Service begins at 10:45 AM. This all happens on Easter Sunday, April 12th.

About a month later, Marian and I will be exchanging wedding vows on Saturday, May 16th at 6:30 PM at the First Church of the Nazarene. This notice will be the only one given. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend our celebration.

My sister and Ma made a trip to Pottsboro to be with another sister, Rita Kimbrell. Rita managed to mess up her knee and had surgery. She had a splintered bone, a separated tendon which was put back together and a stitch in her cartilage. She should be able to put some weight on it in about 3 weeks but will need a walker for another 3 weeks. I remember a time when our brother Terry broke his leg in Wrestling practice. It sure looked painful.

Struggling to keep up with the pace of my own life, I have not attempted to keep up with the rest of this branch of the family. For those of you who have enjoyed solving my crossword puzzles in the past, I have included another one in this issue.

I've also drawn a map to aid those interested in the upcoming events at the First Church of the Nazarene. Marian and I look forward to seeing all of you there!
