An example of a pin on disc tester
The pin on disc tester is a simple piece of apparatus that is used to measure the sliding wear and friction of thin coatings. A sample is coated and is the disc in the test and a ball, usually made of cemented carbide is the pin. A load is added to the pin and the coated disc is rotated at speed set by the user. Pin on disk tester - Storage of data
Most pin on disc testers are PC controlled and the friction versus time or distance plots can be stored on the hard drive. The wear rate of the coating is calculated after the pin on disc test using the ball cratering technique and simple software. For more information about pin on disk testers click pin on disc tester.
