Quezon
1. Description of "Our Community"
A place for sights,
lights, sounds and other events, Quezon City has been a conurbation for by the
young and old alike. It has many sites for anything and everything under the
sun. You can find parks for the whole family, malls and gimik places for the
whole ‘barkada’, venues for important gatherings and educational sites. Named
after the late president Manuel L. Quezon and with a size of almost 4x the size
of Manila, a memorial park was made in commemoration of president during the
commonwealth.
The former capital of the Republic of the Philippines houses different seats
of local and national government along with two military camps and main offices
of the broadcast stations airing nationally. Most prestigious schools in the
country are found in the city, whether it is for elementary, high school or
college. Philippine Science High School and the University of the Philippines
together with the Regional Science High School can be seen in the city respectively.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our web project
tackles the different sites that Quezon City features, together with the different
tourist destinations, attractions and different places which guests in the city
should never miss when visiting. We showcased what can be found in a certain
place, where it is and why it is a must to visit it. Tourism is the main point
in this web project.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of
students using the Internet at home: 75-80%
B. Number of workstations
with Internet access in the classroom: 45
C. Connection speed
used in the classroom: 100mbps per computer
D. Number of years
our classroom has been connected to the Internet: 5
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
The production for
the project collided with other important school activities thus occupying all
our available time only to accomplish the project. With few people working together,
work load is doubled for each member. The pessimistic view of other people somehow
affected our performance rate.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
This web project
aims to promote the city not only as a tourist destination but as an ideal place
to stay. The students got the feel of being an employee of the Department of
Tourism, thinking of ways on how to promote a certain place.
6. How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair
Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Public relations
for the interviews, digital photography and digital imaging for the images,
webpage development for the layout and journalism for writing the articles
Project Elements
1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Cyberfair
project?
We used digital
cameras to capture images of the different places, the internet to gain more
information about the place and did some interviews to know more about the place
from another person’s point of view and knowledge.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for
your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
We made young voices
shout out what they know and love about Quezon City. Hearing the voices of young
entrepreneurs, tourists abroad could see how positively liberate the society
in Quezon City.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Not just making
a report or documentary, people could have more employment to the people. An
additional tourism rate in the Quezon City is a great experience for the said
City and would help financially and economically the whole populace.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and
volunteers?
Our project required
the help of some writers from the school paper for the articles on the different
tourist spots, etc. Helpers or volunteers gave us personal experience information
on Quezon City, on how beautiful it is and how pleasant it is to live in Quezon
City.
