Educational Institutions
The city has several of the best educational institutions in the country, particularly in the Diliman area. Two of the most well-known are the University of the Philippines, Diliman and Ateneo de Manila University. Most of the best high schools are also located in the city, among them are the Philippine Science High School and Quezon City Science High School.
QC youth education boosted
The delivery of basic education to the youth of Quezon City received a boost with the inauguration of the high-tech office building of the QC division of city schools by Mayor Feliciano R. Belmonte Jr.
The new four-story building in the
San Francisco High School campus in Bago Bantay, Quezon City, features the
Center for Technology and an e-library on the fourth floor.
The center provides a collection of reading materials in various formats –
print, multi-media, and digital services that use Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) in accessing, processing and delivering
information.
“We aim to transform the youth and other constituents of Quezon City into
highly technical and computer-literate individuals. With this new building,
we will make the Quezon City division of city schools a laboratory for
higher learning and teaching pursuits leading to the integration of
information technology in all subject areas,” Belmonte said.
With 382,664 students and over 9,000 teachers in 97 elementary and 47 high
schools, Quezon City is the biggest school division in the Philippines. The
Belmonte administration established a separate building for the
administrative office of the QC division of city schools.
The e-library is connected to 11 other e-libraries in other elementary and
high schools in Quezon City. It provides Internet stations for reading and
research, access to information stored in CD-ROMS, and features online
public access catalogue (OPAC) for easier data gathering.
The QC Division of City Schools will also soon launch its web page, which
includes links and subpages for its member-schools and provides them with
integrated information access and internet facilities.
