The Poppy Family
Poppy Seeds
London Records LP PS 599
London Records 45 164
Released as a single, this was my introduction to the
Wildweeds and Al Anderson (although I didn't know it at the time).
There are no horns, typical small rock band
backup with Susan providing all the vocals. Her plaintive voice does the song justice.
Of the versions I know listed here, it's my favorite and seems
the most timeless.
The Allman Brothers Band
Dreams
Polydor CD Box Set
Recorded by an early Allman incarnation, the Hour Glass, this
track was originally credited to "songwriter unknown."
The Uniques
The Uniques
Paula Records LPS 2204
The Uniques this time - featuring a young Joe Stampley on vocals.
Someone at Paula must have thought there was something in this
tune as it's the second time one of their acts recorded it!
This is the over-the-top version - fuzz guitar, horns and even
strings.
The Moving Sidewalks
Tantara 45 3113
Billy Gibbons' pre-ZZ Top band does the song...H-E-A-V-Y!!!
The Modulators
Modulator Records LP 112015
Reggae version by this Cincinnati band in 1982.

Tobi Legend
Mala 45 12,003
According to the '75 Al interview, this is the Wildweeds backing track with Legend on vocals.
John Fred and His Playboy Band
Agnes English
Paula Records LP 2197
John "Judy in Disguise" Fred doing the honors on
the song this time up. This '60s Louisianna pop group serves up a nice job, too.
The organ is prominant throughout with judicious use of horns on
the chorus.
