STOMACHACHE
(Massage Therapy)



GENERAL EXPLANATION:

A stomachache is a disease of the digestive tract. Its main symptom is frequent pain below the xyphoid process in the upper abdomen and is seen mostly in gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer, gastrospasm and other diseases of the digestion. Acute gastritis occurs quickly and presents itself as continuous pain in the upper abdomen accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Chronic gastritis lasts in a long time and presents itself as frequent pain in the upper abdomen accompanied by poor appetite and a distending sensation after meals. Peptic ulcer often presents itself as rhythmic pain accompanied by acid regurgitation and eructation. Gastric ulcers often attack one hour after the meal and presents itself as tenderness in the upper abdomen. Duodenal ulcers usually attack in the hungry state, with symptoms of tenderness in the right upper abdomen. Massage can relieve the gastrospasm, strengthen the spleen, regulate the flow of Qi, harmonize the stomach and stop the pain.

NOTES:

1. It is advisable to administer treatment during the attack of pain once in the morning and evening respectively, so as to decrease and eliminate stomachache.
2. It is advisable to regulate food intake and not to consume cold, uncooked, spicy and sour food.
3. It is necessary to seek pharmaceutic treatment according to the specific conditions.
4. It is prohibited to apply massage for those afflicted with gasatrorrhagia and stomach perforation.

TREATMENT:

1. In case of severe stomachache, press Weishu(BL-21), Pishu(BL-20), and the most obvious tenderness on the back with the bent finger for 2 to 3 minutes each and then chafe them warm for the immediate relief of stomachache.

2. Push the abdomen form the xyphoid process to the umbilicus with the palm for 5 times.

3. Knead Zhongwan(RN-12) and Qihai(RN-6) with the thenar for 30 times each. Rub the upper abdomen with the palm clockwise and counterclockwise for 30 times respectively.

4. Push the back with the palm along the Bladder Meridian of Foot-Taiyang from Ganshu(BL-18) to Sanjiaoshu(BL-22) for 5 to 10 times.

5. Chafe the hypochondrium obliquely. Gently knead Zhangmen(LR-13) and Qimen(LR-14) for 30 times respectively.

6. Press Neiguan(PC-6), Zusanli(ST-36) and Liangqiu(ST-34) with the thumb for 30 times each.
