The Boy By The Window

I moved from a barrio(tic) school to the pilot school in
Iyam when I was in fourth grade. This was Tatay's idea so I could be challenged
(daw) academically. "Kulang ka sa kalaban," those were his words.
Lucena West Elementary was huge compared to my little house in the prairie
school in the barrio. I felt lost for the first two weeks and I didn't have
friends. Nobody wanted to be friends with a new kid on the block who wore
pigtails. I remembered being alone during recess. My past time was sitting by
the inner court and watching the lively girls and boys while chewing my lower
lips (habit that I still have up to now). It was while in this reverie that I
noticed the boy by the window, inside a classroom who was looking intently at
nowhere. He had a scary stare, I thought. Without the boy knowing, I avoided him
on the school ground. I thought that something was wrong with him. You know...
that he was crazy or something.
It was after many, many, many years that I told him what I thought about him
when we were in fourth grade. It was during our 30th High School Reunion.....
So friends, our 35th reunion is coming. This might be the chance for you to tell
a friend what he/she was before. It will be taken lightly and in good spirit,
too.
