Merging of two hospitals i.e. Bukit Mertajam Hospital & Seberang Jaya Hospital which is in the same district (just 12 Km apart). This was done as the facilities are near each other and to optimized available resources. Before the merging BM Hospital (110 years old) was without specialist and Seberang Jaya Hospital have specialist, since then both now have specialist to cover each other. A total of 556 beds (314 in SJ , 242 in BM) with 16 departments/units were formed upon mergering. BM has ENT, Ophtalmology, Hemodialysis, Palliative Care center, Operating Complex with 3 theaters while SJ has Administration, ICU,CCU, NICU, Occupational Therapy, and Operating Complex of 2 theaters and 1 Emergency Operating theater.
SJ Vision ~ center of par exellence in mainland Penang for professional expertise and training in health care, health promotion and rehabilitation.
SJ Mission ~ responsive to patient’s needs , will provide highly competent and specialised services through caring team of efficient, dedicated and trained personnel that ensures privacy, confidentiality and assures safety and quality and that which has the trust of the public.
Among issues/meetings regularly held are Occupational Safety and Health and Quality Assurance of 21 in numbers.
