In the good and established order the congregation assembled, arises and stands bared head while the intercessor, the spokesman, asks for what God inspires him to plead for, the people standing as they did when King Solomon prayed at the dedication of the temple, and as Moses entered into the temple to appear before God.(1) Israel stood in their tent doors and worshiped as the pillar of cloud rested upon the temple.
When one feels called to prayer it is as if God has come to hear and is there among them by His presence, and in honor thereof the people arise and stand to receive, honor and welcome Him, which has ever been the practice and adds to the dignity of the occasion.
When a visitor comes to our homes, it would be discourteous to remain seated, but it is the practice to arise to welcome or salute them. Much more so when the Heavenly Visitor, the Lord Jesus Christ appears in His overshadowing Divine influence, do we arise to receive, honor, and welcome Him.
Some when they pray assume a standing position, but this to the truly humble seems unbecoming and lacking in humility, we believe God is the Author of order, and as he is sought will lead all into proper practices, which as it is followed will add to the order and life of the assembled people of God, and why not unto this we are called now as ever, all mankind are created to be His people.
The Queen of Sheba was filled with admiration while she beheld the order of King Solomon's house, the sitting of his servants, the attendance of his ministers and their apparel. There is a dignity of al that is of God and an order.
