Pen In Hand

This piece was commisioned by my friend. She called me one day and left a message saying that she had a client working on a book, tentatively titled "Pen In Hand", and had requested pictures from the client so she could make one into the cover. She found she couldn't use any of the images she received. She'd seen some of my other artwork, so she was confident I could make something along the lines of what she needed. She was definately more than impressed at the final results.

I made this using a photo of my hand that I took with a digital camera. I scoured the ethers for a decent looking fountain pen to use as a model. Using Photoshop, I traced my hand and fit the pen into it, and touched it up to the point where I was satisfied that it looked really nice, though she liked it even before I was done. The full-sized version is ridiculously huge, because I didn't know what kind of resolution was needed for a book cover, so I played it safe and made it a bit on the big side (2400x2400... *cough*).

Sadly, it never became a cover, because of some copyright issues with some of the main things that were supposed to end up in the book. But I can still call it "commisioned art" :)
