Chai Tea Mix
I made this from a base recipe for a chai tea mix to taste like the Chai tea mix that I liked from Tastefully Simple, but couldn't buy around here (plus I'm cheap and chai tea mix is expensive...)
1 cup dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer (coffee creamer)
1 cup French vanilla flavored powdered non-diary creamer (its right by the regular coffee creamer)
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp allspice
Princes of Wales tea bags
You are making a large batch of chai tea mix that you can use over time. In a large bowl combine all the ingredients except the tea bags. In a blender or food processor, blend the mixture in increments until the mixture is the consistency of fine powder. Store powder in a sealed container until you need it.
Now to serve the chai. Make the Prince of Wales tea according to the directions (I like this type best, but English Breakfast Tea or Irish Breakfast Tea are also good - really any tea that you like should work. I would not recommend using something like Earl Gray which has extra flavors added to it already). Add 2-3 heaping spoonfuls of chai tea mix to your cup and drink. (This is really to your liking and how big your cup is...I like my sweet and like large coffee mugs, so I usually use 3 spoonfuls, but if I use the regular teacups I only use 2 spoonfuls).
Makes about 3 dozen servings (I haven't actually counted...the original recipe I started with made 36, but I added/subtracted ingredients so I'm not entirely sure).
NOTE: You can add 1 cup of unsweetened instant tea to your mix instead of having to make your own tea each time, but I don't like the instant tea. I think it has a really boring taste even if it does make the process of drinking it a little easier. I don't mind the few extra minutes to takes me to brew the tea first. I might do this as a gift in a jar and if I do I might resort to the instant tea so that I don't have to bother with tea bags with the jars. It is not bad with the instant tea, just I don't think it tastes as good as if you use a better tea for the base (big shock right?).
