Contrary to an earlier report, there is now planned for a Brian Solo Album.
Roger and Brian are still talking about working on a Queen project.
There is a new Taco Bell commercial with a parody of We will rock you.
These guys are about to eat their
tacos and they "bang bang" their elbows on the table
followed by biting into their taco with a "crunch".
So it kind of goes "bang bang crunch". Then at the end of
the commercial, one of the guys has a mess of cheese on
his face and another guy tells him "You got cheese on your face".
Really kind of cool.
President Bush's inaugral parade, held Saturday 20 January, featured a

Acording to www.brianmay.com/maybe, US Guitar magazine report Brian May has
booked studio studio time in Los Angeles.
Maybe tells about a fan that saw the magazine, where it says that
brian is in L.A. to (allegedly) record his next solo album.

More Robbie Williams + Queen Talk At The Brits
Various reports have been filtering in about Robbie Williams fronting Queen.
Various Sunday papers in the UK have been running small article saying
Queen have approached Robbie Williams to front the band.
It appears that the Robbie rumours won't go away.
Brian has on several occasions adimitted to having talked to Robbie about
the possibility, but has also stated that at the present time either party is
too busy to work on any projects.
Brian May came in at 5th place in the UK's Channel 4 'Top 10 Guitar Heros' programme.
Here is the 10:
1: Jimi Hendrix
2: Eric Clapton
3: Jimmy Page
4: Hank Marvin
5: Brian May
6: Pete Townshend
7: Dave Evans a.k.a The Edge
8: Carlos Santana
9: Ritchie Blackmore
10: Johnny Marr
A report on the induction ceremony states that John may have been absent due to an illness.
"It means more than all the Grammys we never got," said Taylor. He and May were
accompanied onstage by the mother of flamboyant singer Freddie Mercury, who died of
AIDS in 1991. Bassist John Deacon was a no-show, reportedly because of an illness.
It has been revealed that Queen will perform 'We Will Rock You'
at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
They will also perform a song with Aerosmith.
Legendary rap star and producer Dr Dre (Andre Young),has mentioned in an
interview to promote new protege rapper Hittman that he would eagerly
take the chance to do a project with the remaining members of rock group Queen.
Dre has been a fan of Queen since he first got involved with music in
the early 80's. He has also lost a best friend from AIDS in 1995, rapper Eazy E.
Queen will be acknowledged by the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins.
Hawkins, who has worshiped Queen for years ("I'm less a fan than a stalker," he quips)
says that he and Grohl "pulled every string" to get the slot.
Every inductee is introduced by another artist who respects them.
The Foo Fighters are well known Queen fans.
Due to developments around its home in Switzerland, the Freddie statue has been
temporarily moved into storage. The statue is likely to be back on site by September.
Therefore if you are booking a holiday to Switzerland, you might want to be aware of this...
In a recent interview, Brian has talked about the upcoming Queen musical.
From the BBC News Web Site:
Comedian and novelist Ben Elton is working with rock group Queen on a
new musical featuring the band's songs.
Guitarist Brian May said the band had been working on a musical for four
years and hoped to stage a production by the end of the year.
Ben Elton has enjoyed success with The Beautiful Game
"The rumour is that we're doing a musical, which is true," he told London
radio station Capital Gold.
"Ben Elton has written us a fantastic script," he added.
Biographical
The original plan for the musical was to use biographical
material from the band's history.
Queen were one of the biggest bands in the world in the late 1970s
and 1980s but lost their main creative force and lead singer Freddie
Mercury to Aids in 1991.
May said: "We've actually been working on this damn musical for about
four years and been through various ideas, some of which were biographical, which in the
end we didn't want to do.
Guitarist Brian May with Liza Minnelli
"But now Ben came up with this great idea, so we've been workshopping it privately and
possibly by the end of this year or the beginning of next year we hope it'll be on
in the West End."
The remaining band members, May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor will not appear in the musical.
May said: "Young people will be in it. There'll be a lot of Queen songs with some new
ideas in there."
Ben Elton has already scored his first musical success, collaborating with Andrew Lloyd
Webber on The Beautiful Game.
The musical, which follows the fortunes of a football team caught up in the Troubles
in Northern Ireland, recently won the Critics' Circle best musical award.
The comedian also successfully adapted his novel Popcorn for the stage.
Brian May was speaking to Mick Brown on Capital Gold and the interview will
bebroadcast on 15 March.
There are plans to release the VH1 Story Tellers performance on CD.
It is still unknown as to if:
1. John will be performing.
2. If any guest vocalists will be enlisted.
According to the International Queen Fan Club (and Brian May), Queen will produce
an entry for the "Story Tellers"-series on VH-1.
This means that they will perform an intimate gig in front of an invited
audience (in New York) and tell little stories about their songs (how they were written,
what they mean,etc...) before they perform them. The live-versions of
"Story Teller"-gigs are usually quite different to usual versions and Brian stated
they will specially rehearse for it.
The recording will probably take place in spring.
The induction ceremony of the "Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame"
(Queen are very likely to perform there) will be aired exclusively
on VH-1 on March 21st at 9 pm.
Emma B, the BBC Radio 1 DJ who commentated on ITV’s coverage of the Brit Awards
which took place on 26th February, provoked more rumours that Robbie Williams
will be joining Queen.
Emma B called Robbie Williams "the replacement for Freddie Mercury."
She also reported that Williams' record company could neither confirm or deny these reports.
Robbie Williams' won a Brit Award for Best Pop Song (Radio DJ).
It appears we shall have to wait and see.

The show will air sometime in March.
A Queen musical, written by Ben Elton, is on the horizon.
Jacky from the fan club recently went to see a draft production of it, and claimed
that it is brilliant.
The musical is still a work in progress, and it is unknown at this
stage when it will be in production.
Ben Elton is the writer of many comedies including The Young Ones
and Black Adder to name a few.
The BBC has posted a brief 1 minute video of the Hall of Fame induction

Queen come in at no 146
It appears that John did not perform live with Brian and Roger at the Hall Of
Fame induction ceremony. It appears that Steve Barnackle, from Rogers band, played bass
for the band. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters joined the band for a
rendition of Tie Your Mother Down (lets hope Vh-1 shows that!)
The ceremony can be seen on VH-1 on Wednesday.
In a recent article on SonicNet.com Brian has mentioned that there is often
talk of a Queen reunion.
The issue stopping it happening is that no-one in the band could bare to replace
Freddie (who could?)
Brian also mentions that they have spoken to Robbie Williams several times about the
possibility of working together.
In the 'Songs of the Century' article published a few days ago by CNN,
Queen featured at number 146 with We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You.

The movie which re-introduced America to "Bohemian Rhapsody" and helped it become

Plans are afoot to re-issue FOUR Queen videos on May 14th. They will be Live
in Budapest, Live In Rio, We Will Rock You and Greatest Flix 2.
It will be a straight re-issue on video, no extras and not yet on DVD. There
ARE plans to release Queen DVD's sometime soon.
Robbie Williams appeared briefly on the Jay Leno Show.
This review from Queenzoner, Herk:
He talked a
bit about working with Queen and how great it was to sing Freddie's vocals,
then did (I'm assuming, quite honestly the lad made no sense to me) an
impression of Freddie by sticking a scrap of paper under his upper lip to
make his teeth look big. After which he said "Sorry, Freddie."
The Queen Fan Club (www.queenworld.com) has indicated that that there has been a format change to the proposed
VH1 Storytellers show.
Instead of one big performance, a number of sessions will be recorded throughout the year and compiled to make
the show.
Ed note: This news was submitted by a Queenzoner who had contacted the fan club, however, I have lost the
original e-mail so i can't credit the person by name. If that person could send me an e-mail I would
like to put their name on this story.
On the April 22nd episode of the highly rated (and controversial) series "Queer As Folk"
(the U.S version of the original U.K mini-series), Queen's "A Kind of Magic" was featured from
the final scene through the end credits.
For those who aren't familiar, "Queer As Folk" is a series on Showtime based on the lives of a
small group of gay friends and all the drama their lives contain.
Tonight's episode was directed by Russel Mulcahy who also directed "Highlander".
The Sun newspaper has reported the following...
QUEEN'S John Deacon has blasted Robbie Williams saying he's not good enough to
replace Freddie Mercury and sing with the band.
Robbie was to take Freddie's place with John, Roger Taylor and Brian May to record a special
version of the classic hit We Are The Champions.
But John refused because he thought Robbie ruined the song and could never replace Freddie,
who died in 1991.
Instead just Robbie, Roger and Brian recorded the track - a No2 hit for Queen in 1977 -
at a secret location in Surrey for the soundtrack of new movie A Knight's Tale.
John says: "Roger and Brian got together to do the song with Robbie Williams but I told
them I had retired.
"I didn't want to be involved with it and I'm glad. I've heard what they did and it's rubbish.
"It is one of the greatest songs ever written but I think they've ruined it. I don't want to
be nasty but let's just say Robbie Williams is no Freddie Mercury. Freddie can never be
replaced - and certainly not by him."
John also scuppered a plan for Robbie to front a re-formed Queen with the surviving members.
The bassist made his cutting comments at the Save Popbitch party - an event to raise money
for the internet gossip site. I was surprised to see him at the bash because he hasn't
appeared on the London party scene for years.
Always regarded as the quiet one in the supergroup, John claims he retired from music when
Freddie died.
Bandmates Roger and Brian carry on and recorded We Will Rock You with boyband Five last year.
Queen will finally be the topic in the very successful TV quiz-show "RISIKO".
The show is broadcasted on ZDF (Germany) and can be seen everyhwere in Europe through satelite TV.
The first of max. 4 shows will be broadcasted on April 24th between 16:15-17:00
(4:15-5pm/German time).
22 seconds of the Queen + Robbie Williams version of 'We Are The Champions' can be
found on napster.
The sample does not give that much of an idea of what the song may sound like - as it
only has the intro - then you hear Robbie say 'I've paid my..."
A snippet of information about the forthcoming storytellers project.
Jacky from the Queen Fan Club told WebSite MundoQueen.com:
"...Queen will begin recording some stuff soon for the Storytellers series on VH1, and
this will involde them playing some of their OLDER material with a selection of new
vocalists which will then become a special television
programme AND the CD they record will be released in November as a tribute
to freddie..."
The commercial for the film is now airing in most U.S markets.
It begins with the familiar "stomp, stomp, clap" of "We Will Rock You".
Various scenes of the movie as well as it's new "hunk" star are shown and then, at
the very end in big lettering are the words..
"Featuring the song We Are the Champions performed by Robbie Williams + Queen"
Since the song is getting "shown off" in the film's trailer, it looks like Sony/Columbia
will be pushing the song heavily in America (we already knew it was being released to radio,
then as a single and that a music video is to be filmed.)
This is as big a shot as any for Queen to get some major recognition in the States, let's
make sure we support them with sales and radio/MTV requests!
Radio 2 listeners have voted Freddie Mercury the 10th greatest singer of the 20th Century.
Thousands of listeners voted on who they thought was the best pop singer of the 20th
Century (no opera, classical singers were allowed).
The top ten is as follows:
1. Frank Sinatra
2. Elvis Presley
3. Nat ``King'' Cole
4. Ella Fitzgerald
5. Bing Crosby
6. John Lennon
7. Aretha Franklin
8. Billie Holiday
9. Barbra Streisand
10. Freddie Mercury
This month on the 12th of April is my birthday and I`m going
to turn 17, and on the 20th of April my website is going
to turn nine months on the web.
So it is with great pride to announce these news to all of you.
It appears that the Queen + Robbie Williams collaboration of 'We Are The Champions' will be
released as a single.
The fan club has reported that the song will be released as a single on
Columbia Records. No date has been fixed as yet.
A video will also be filmed for the single.
Note: Robbie Williams, whilst famous in most other parts of the world, hasn't had that
much success in the US. This could be his way of trying to break into the US market.
The excellent Gary Mullen, who won the UK Stars In Their Eyes as Freddie, will be
representing Britain in a special "Stars in Euro Eyes".
This will be on Saturday 14th April on Charlton & LWT, at 19:40 to 21:40 (2 hours long).
I don't know if any of the other countries taking part will be televising the show, but I
know there were Italian, Portuguese and Spanish contestants as well as many others.
In a Duran Duran mailing list, a member said that Roger was asked by the band to
play drums in a forthcoming "reunion" tour, since Duran's original drummer (also called Roger Taylor) refused to rejoin the band.
Queenzoner Trish Hanstock has this to note:
The
word in the back-office of a certain London record company is that the
DURANS have approached none other than England's OTHER superstar
pop-drummer Roger Taylor from QUEEN to round out the line-up of their
rumored reunion tour planned for next
year.
I have approached Roger Taylor's (Queen not Duran) people and they say
"it's still just a deal-in-the-making.......Roger has made it quite
clear he has not agreed to anything YET."
"Robbie Williams has at last recorded with rock giants Queen."
taken from the daily mirror today:
"robbie williams has at last recorded with rock giants queen.
as we revealed last december, he was approached by the veteran band as a new frontman to
replace the late, great freddie mercury.
last week he teamed up with guitarist brian may, dummer roger taylor and bassist john
deacon in a studio near guildford, surrey, to record a version of we are the champions.
the anthem, a no. 2 in 1977, will be the soundtrack to a movie a knight's tale.
an insider said: "queen thought robbie was one of the few artists who could do their
songs justice""
A spokesperson for Robbie Williams has stated that there are no plans to release the
song as a single.

Answers to Questions from fans to GREG
:
- - ALL 15 BCC tracks will be in the QQuueeen box
- - 1st Queen box expected at end of NNEEXTT year, format yet unknown
- - Man Made Paradise, there is a Queeenn vversion, will be in the box, the
demo's for Freddie solo album are not very different though, that's why the track did not appear in the Freddie box.
- - DVD's or CD-ROM *will* be used in tthee box, format unknown yet, some interactive thing it will be.
- - Greg is almost sure that after thee Quueen boxes, a LIVE box will be released
- - Michael Jackson tracks: Greg is poossittive that the tracks will eventually
appear on a CD in some form, there is 1 track in the Queen archives: VICTORY, but they aren't allowed yet to release it! the track has all the queen boys singing backing vocals!
- - Greg's idea about the box format: 33 bboxes, each having 3-6 CD's. THIS IS
GREG'S OPINION, NO DISCUSION HAS BEEN MADE YET!!!! with 2 DVD's
included,
the amount could be up to 8 CD's per box.
- - a selection of tracks will be releeaaseed in the box as instrumentals, like
with the Freddie box
- - The Queen archive has 4000 tapes!!!!! 33/4 is safety copies or
work-copies though
- - MOTHER LOVE, numerous versions witthh RRoger and Brian singing exist
- - alternate versions of "These are tthhe Days of Our Lives" exist, but all
slightly diff though
- - Fast WWRY, no other version than tthhe BBC version exists
- - After the Queen boxes, Greg will aallmoost surely be asked to log the archived tapes of Roger and Brian, if any boxes of these guys will be made is still unsure...
- - The QUEEN LIVE book took 5 years ttoo mmake, it was not intended as a book
first, only research, 80% is accurate, if Greg would release the book now, it would be much more accurate!
Brian May, in his greeting to Queen fans at the 16th Annual fan club convention has talked about working with Robbie Williams.
Apparently Robbie was asked to record champions, and he in turned asked Queen to join him.
Brian stated that they (Roger and himself) found it stimulating to work with Robbie, and if it continues to be so, they will work together in the future as well.
On another front Roger in his question and answer session said that, while there are no definate plans, that sometime in the next ten year he would like to tour with Queen.
Greg Brooks, Queen archivist, has shed light on his preferred method of releasing Queen box sets.
At the 16th fan club convention, Greg stated that he would like to see three sets, each dealing with a particular part of Queen, eg, early years, middle years and late years.
Each set would likely have 8 or so CD's + DVD's.
The release of the box sets might start from late 2002 onwards.
Queen archivist Greg Brooks has indicated that after the Queen studio box sets there may be a live box set.
Greg Brooks preferred method of release would be to create a number of concerts from the best bits from each tour.
Def Leppard's live cover version of "Now I'm Here", featuring Brian May, from the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert is featuring in a 'Best Def Leppard Song Ever' poll on the band's website
The poll is now in its fourth week, with a different section each week. This week's section is "The Covers", and "How I'm Here" is one of the songs that can be voted for. The top two songs voted for in each category go on to a grand final vote once all the seperate categories are completed.
This past weekend saw "A Knight's Tale" open nationwide across America. Early reports
state that the film opened very strong with $17 million gross. Considering it was competing
with the hugely popular "The Mummy Returns", most industry experts believe the film is a success.
For comparison;
"A Knight's Tale" in it's opening weekend grossed more than the first "Highlander" film did in it's entire theatrical run here.
"Wayne's World" opened to a little over $18 million and went on to gross $121 million in America.
From what we have seen, if a Queen song was strongly tied in to a hit film, the song goes on to be a hit so
hopes are high for Queen + Robbie's "We Are The Champions".
On May 8th, the "A Knight's Tale" soundtrack was released in America, offering
Queen fans their first glimpse at the entire track, "We Are the Champions" which the
band re-recorded with pop star Robbie Williams.
Previously, 2 clips were made available via the internet giving just a few seconds
worth of what to expect. Apparently (and according to one fan, Jameson Combs) the end
result was much better than expected.
The following is his opinion on the collaboration;
"It does have that spacey opening like the brief clip you've heard, but it does NOT
have that rough sounding bit that was downloadable from whatever site that was. I dunno
where that came from.
Robbie's vocals are very sweet and smooth sounding throughout, at least to my ears.
Once the spacey intro is over the song takes on a pretty traditional sound, although the
spacey keyeboard stuff is still present. Just a little down in the mix.
The bass is great - you definitely don't miss J.D. except for knowing that he's not there.
I assume that Brian once again played bass and he does more than a competent job.
Brian and Roger's backing vocals are very good. Roger's drums are excellent, and Brian's
guitar sounds great. Some nice differences on guitar throughout - they're not subtle exactly
although they don't hit you over the head either, until the end.
After what would have been the last chorus on the original, Brian does a great solo, and then
there's a reprise of the chorus once more.
Excellent, excellent stuff and I could SO see myself at a concert, with my arms in
the air swaying from side to side, singing along and having the time of my life. I
should be so lucky. But definitely NOT "ruined" by any sensible person's defintion
of the word, and IMO, just about as good as you could have expected.
I have no complaints and have probably played it a dozen times."
Well, there you have it. Go out and buy the CD, listen to the entire song and decide
for yourself.
As some of you may know, "Flash Gordon" has gone out-of-print on the DVD
format in America. The movie was originally released by Image who had licensed
it from Universal Studios. All Image releases were 'movie only' discs and a few
months ago had slashed prices on all their titles (the other movies were also
licensed from Universal) which resulted in a lawsuit.
Now the licensing agreement has expired and the rights to all of those films have
reverted *back* to Universal Studios.
Universal is now looking into re-issuing the titles and giving some of them
"special edition" treatment. You can keep in touch with them

New clip of Queen/Robbie now available
The official fan club has posted a poll about who Queen
fans would like to see perform with the band at the "Storytellers" shows later this year.
You can vote there, but please take care of your vote.
A much better sample of the Queen + Robbie "We Are the Champions" track can be
heard at the movie's official site located in the following website:

According to OK! magazine the new version of WATC will be released as a single in the UK
After mentioning Robbie's upcoming solo singles the June 8th copy of the magazine read "Robbie will also soon be releasing his special version of the song We Are The Champions, which he's recorded with members of the rock group Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor. The single is featured on the soundtrack of the new movie A Knight's Tale and will hit the charts here at the same time as the film is released in UK cinemas. Both the film and the single have already been released in America. In the video for the new track, Robbie appears as the knight 'Sir Robbie', complete with a full suit of armor."
I believe it is important that fans in the UK should write to the Fan Club and express their wishes that Brian and Roger should be included in the video as the US release excludes them.
On the British Version of the hit show Survivor the islanders sang Bohemian Rhapsody
On June 11th the episode was broadcast with the islanders standing on logs floating in the sea and they
were singing without music to Bohemian Rhapsody! Queen do get everywhere!!
Queen and Robbie Williams version of We Are The Champions is to be released in UK!
The Track is to be issued as a Double A side single with Robbie's Track "Eternity" as lead track? on July 9th 2001
At www.spicevideos.com , the performance of Barcelona, by Sporty Spice Mel C and Russel Watson is

It's a 80MB, 7 min. long MPG-file, featuring Barcelona and a second (not Queen related) Mel C song.
According to Dutch NOS Teletext (372) Roger Taylor has produced Bob Geldof's first album in 10 years.
Bob Geldof's new album is called Sex, Age @ Death. It will be released in September
4Bohemian Rhapsody has featured in a Renault Scenic advert.
The advert shows four people in the car singing the song.
It features along with other songs such as Teenage Dirtbag by Wheetus.
The "Storytellers" fan poll has ended. The poll tried to deduce who Queen fans would most like to be the guest

I've just seen the newly released "Moulin Rouge" and I discovered that it prominently features "The Show Must Go On."
Thru the whole film the characters kept saying "The show must go on," then finally
I heard it! Nicole Kidman and another character sing it near the end of the movie.

Robbie Williams hints at Queen future?
Freddie On Vh-1 Poll
On wednesday 25th July Top of the pops two, showed Roger performing 'Future Management' 1981
This is a show where they play old clips when it's someone's birthday, so they dug out one of Roger.
For those of you that missed it, it's repeated on Saturday, BBC2, 4:30pm.
Queen`s "A Night At The Opera" is voted 8 as the best album ever on a dutch radio stadion called Noordzee FM.
The second Queen album came in at 20th place - "Greatest hits 2"
Number one was a dutch singer called Marco Borsato
There was a definite Queen thing going on at Robbies Gig in Milton Keynes, with We Will Rock You, Fat Bottomed Girls and We are the Champions, featuring.
I went to see Robbie Williams concert at Milton Keynes over the weekend, and think that anyone who thinks he is a crap singer should really do their best to see him and I guarantee you will change your mind. He is the only performer on this planet that can get anything close to the sort of thing Freddie managed with a crowd.
Before the concert began there was an advert/trailer for A Knights Tale, shown several times on the big screens with We Will Rock You playing, and everyone kept joining in. Then as Robbie was about to come on Fat Bottomed Girls was played with a countdown to Robbie coming on stage. Then finally the Encore at the end was of course We are the Champions, and believe me it was amazing, I was almost in tears!
It would appear that Robbie really is a big Queen fan.
A song by a very popular US band called 'Live' has recorded a song about rock groups that use their talent to spread a positive message
The chorus says 'I had a dream I was on stage with Queen' and 'the world needs people like you'.
The album will be release on September 18th.
Robbie Williams was featured playing "We are the Champions" on the 20th July edition of "Top of the Pops", but rather than a live performance in studio they merely showed the video.
He was credited as "Robbie Williams" with no mention at all that any members of Queen had worked on the track.
There are reports that there will be a be musical dedicated to Freddie that'll be on stage next year in Italy.
The show will begin a nation-wide tour in May 2002 and it will reach the larger Italian theatres.
Specials guest of the show will be the famous soprano Montserrat Caballe.
According to a VH1 show last night Queen and David Bowie were noted as an unusual combination with their song Under Pressure.
Also mentioned in the show was the collaboration of Wayne's World with Bohemian Rhapsody in the 1991 movie. Dana Carvey said of Bohemian Rhapsody, "It was a funny song. I never realized how funny it was until we were singing it."
Led Zep's "Stairway to Heaven" has topped German Magazine's MusikExpress top 100 songs list.
The top 6 were:
2. 'Yesterday' (The Beatles)
3. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' (Nirvana)
4. 'Satisfaction' (Rolling Stones)
5. 'Born To Run' (Bruce Springsteen's)
6. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (Queen)
Pioneer has just announced a 9/18 arrival date for two separate editions of Queen: We Will Rock You, a 1981 live performance of 18 of the band's biggest hits.
Separate 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS versions will be released, and both feature AUDIO COMMENTARY with the band and a discography. Retail is $24.95 each.
According to the BBC CEEFAX service's "Top of the Pops" news on page 566, Robbie Williams is to perform "We are the Champions" on this Friday, the 20th of July, repeated on Saturday 21st.
There was no mention on whether or not Roger and Brian will be joining him, but as he was listed as 'Robbie Williams' rather than 'Robbie Williams & Queen', this seems unlikely.
A programme on BBC2 decides that Queen are still the best!
On Friday the 13th of July a programme called Malcolm in the Middle was on at 6.45pm on BBC2 was all about a boy learning how to skate with his father teaching him how to but it was dance roller skating and the father did he's dance to We Are The Champions.
It was amzing just proves that TV can still see Queen are legends.
Brian May turns 54 years of magic, he is one of the best guitarrist of the history of the rock,
and today in his birthday I want to tell him that he is the best guitarrist, an excellent person
and one of the best musician.
Thank you very much Brian, you keep with Roger the music alive!!!.
The UK national newspaper the "Daily Express" carried a story on Page 3 on Saturday 14th July about a charity gig in Surrey, focusing on the participation of ex-Formula One world champion Damon Hill's band Damon Hill and the Con Rods.
The article says that "others on the star studded bill included Eric Clapton, Bob Geldof, Gary Brooker of Procul Harum, Roger Taylor of Queen..." and various others.
There was a picture of a line-up of stars at the evend, but not including Roger sadly.
On the spoof gameshow 'Banzai' on Channel 4, the last bet was on which one out of "Brian May of Queen" or "Craig David" would get into a car and drive off first...
Needless to say, "Brian May" won. Also, 'Radio Ga Ga' music was used on a bet between which of two men in S&M "outfits" would slide down a watershute quickest.
(Note, "Brian May" and "Craig David" were in fact two fat, middle-aged, balding men, with a cartoon face on their heads. I know this is totally useless, but it's fun!)
The 25 September will see 'A Knights Tale' released on home video in the US.
From www.ignDVD.com:
According to the wonderful IGN site, the DVD of "A Knight's Tale" will have tons of extras, "audio commentary with Brian Heglend and Paul Bettany, the HBO making-of special, eleven - count em, eleven! - deleted scenes with filmmaker intros, a music video, production notes, filmographies and trailers. Look for this bad boy September 25th, for $27.95"
Any guesses as to what the video will be???
On the WWF broadcast wrestling show Smackdown! on July 12th, 2001, the main star of the show Stone Cold Steve Austin, who gained popularity with his Austin 3:16 phrases was featured in a small segment singing a small bit of 'We Are the Champions'
What he said is paraphrased below:
"Hey (Vince McMahon), remember that band Queen back in the 70's and 80's? Here's a song that might cheer you up!"
"I am the Chaaaaaammmmpiiiooooon..... my friend!
And I'll keep on fightiiiiiiiing.... till the end!
I am the champion
I am the champion
no time for losing
cuz i am the champion...."
Al Pacino, Sandra Bullock, Regis Philbin, Ozzy Osbourne and Martin Landau are among the celebrities getting stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.
Other recipients include QUEEN, Rodney Dangerfield, Amy Grant, and KC and the Sunshine Band.
Paramount Home Video has released the film that brought Queen back into American pop culture in 1992, "Wayne's World" on DVD (as well as the sequel) July 10th.
Both DVD's are available individually or as a set.
"Wayne's World" is in anamorphic widescreen, with 5.1 surround sound. Extras include 1) audio commentary by director Penelope Spheeris. 2) "Extreme close-up" interviews with Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Rob Lowe, Tia Carrere, Spheeris and producer Lorne Michaels. 3) theatrical trailer.
"Wayne's World 2" is in anamorphic widescreen, 5.1 sound. Extras include 1) audio commentary by director Stephen Surjik. 2) "Extreme close-up" interviews with cast & crew.
Queen are to be featured prominently in a movie currently under development with acclaimed Director Terry Gilliam
Queenzoner Paul DiNuzzo writes:
Terry Gilliam is making a film version of the Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett classic novel, 'Good Omens'. It is best described as Monty Python's the Omen. Hysterical book.
What does this have to do with Queen? Well those who have read the book know. A demon, one of the main characters, drives around in a Bentley. Any cassette tape that is left in said Bentley for a fortnight is automatically turned into a Best of Queen tape!
Many songs are mentioned specifically...off the top of my head, BoRhap, AOBTD, Radio Ga Ga, etc. In fact BoRhap is on when the Devil wants to talk to him so all of a sudden Freddie Mercury's voice speaks what Lucifer wants to tell his minion.
Some people might jump on this as Oh my god they are saying Queen is devil's music or they are mocking Queen or whatever...me? I see it as great satire and I think Freddie would have laughed at it...probably agreeing whole heartedly with the assumption! So if the film gets made...we might see a lot of Queen songs on the silver screen...
In a special episode of American VH1's new show "What's My 20" Bohemian Rhapsody beat Thriller taking the #1 spot on the 'Best Visionary Video' list.
The list is compiled from votes at VH1's website. So this is really what the people wanted.
Bohemian Rhapsody was also noted in a show on The History Channel called "History's Mysteries".
Before the commercial break a section called "also in 1975" appeared and the host said "The first music video is made--Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen made for a show called 'Top Of The Pops'"
The last little tidbit is rather lame, but I thought it kinda neat.
"Next" is a kind of talent show on Sky one where people can come into a studio and do what ever they want. It's usually all very bad. Bohemian Rhapsody was no exeption.
One man all by himself tried singing it but they didn't show it in full. They showed the beginning, the middle (operatic section) and the end. It has to be the worse version of it in History, and people think Robbie Williams with Queen is bad!
Tim Staffell, former singer with Smile, the band that became Queen, is to record an album of original compositions including a reworking of a Smile track.
"I am doing this primarily for my own reasons; that is, I just want to make the best possible attempt to record a quantity of my own material. The album will be a mix of styles, and at the moment, the personnel list is as follows:
Andrew Staffell: Drums
Richard Lightman: Bass & Guitar
Chris Smith: Keyboards & Guitar (Also in Smile for a time...)
Me: Bass & Guitar
John Webster: Guitar
Peter Hammerton: Guitar
This is just the core. There will be others, to be announced later."
No decision has been made in which Smile track to rework.
BBC Digital last night reported Robbie's latest disclosure that he is about to kill off his solo career - he said.....
"Frankly I am bored with RW, after my obligations are fulfilled it is goodbye to all that, I am killing him off.
After November people will see me in a completely new role with completely
different music......"
Vh-1 is celebrating an edition of "What's my 20?" where people can vote online in each categories.

We are the champions was on 'slap bang with ant and dec' this saturday. It's an English saturday evening T.V. show.
It happens to be the same T.V. show that Anita Dobson (Brian May's Wife) is on every week
in a section called Beers. It's kind of like a sitcom.
Brian appears as guest guitarist on Robbie Williams new single
"Eternity|" due out here on July 9th
- but you'll have to listen very closeelly,, it's not as obvious as it usually
is that Brian is on there!
Also, Brian is working on an album at the moment... no, not a new solo album
sadly, but compiling something called "The Best Air Guitar Album In The World -
Ever"!! it will be released on EMI in August/September!
Whether in jest or not, Dave Grohl (Leader singer of the Foo's) has
suggested that the next Foo Fighters Tour may well involve a number of tribute bands.
After performing on a stage recently warmed up by a Van Halen tribute band, DAVE GROHL said the Foos will
start recording a new ablum when they're back from Europe to be followed by the
inevitiable tour. "We figure that instead of taking 'cool' bands on tour, we'll
probably take out this Tributepalooza, " he says. "A QUEEN tribute band, an
AC/DC tribute band, the Atomic Punks and us. We're talking arenas."
Work has commenced on transferring 'A Night At The Opera' from its original stereo format to DTS 5.1 Surround Sound.
This article is taken from nuendo.com
Queen goes Nuendo
Recently a team of various product specialists and engineers working for the band Queen gathered together at Abbey Road's Studio 3 to supervise the transfer of the original multi-tracks of Queen's seminal Night at the Opera album from 1975 (which includes Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend and the epic Prophet Song) into Steinberg Nuendo at 24-bit 96kHz. This was in preparation for Elliot Scheiner's 5.1 Surround Sound Remix for DTS, the people who had previously commissioned him to do the same for Van Morrison's Moondance, The Eagles Hotel California, America's Homecoming (featuring Ventura Highway) and The Doobie Brothers The Captain and I (with both Long Train Running and China Grove)several of which have already been released in their Surround format on DVD-A. The transfers of all these 16track-based projects were effected using an Alesis Hard Disk recorder and Swissonic AD/DA96 converters, but as Night of the Opera was one of the earliest 24-track recordings, Elliot needed to look at a new system which could handle 24 track recording as there is no timecode on the original multi- tracks. He had settled on Nuendo having heard the results on the surround remix of Jackson Browne's Running on Empty. Swissonic supplied an extra two pairs of AD/DA96 to add the extra 6 tracks.
Although the mix itself is being done in Glenn Frey's Hollywood studio facility, the transfers were done in London because Justin Shirley Smith from Queen Productions was extremely worried at the idea of putting the priceless multi-tracks in an aircraft hold. Abbey Road was chosen as the venue for the transfers because of their expertise in handling aging tapes and so Rob Hill from Steinberg North America who will be assisting Elliot Scheiner in the mix and actually operating Nuendo (having used it on the Surround Mix of Jackson Browne's Running on Empty) flew in from LA with his customised Nuendo rack. There he rendezvous'ed with Sam Wetmore of Steinberg UK and Paul Wiffen of Swissonic/Apple who were running a second Nuendo system on 733MHz Mac G4 with Swissonic converters. Both systems were using SCSI Raid arrays to handle the massive data transfer rates, Rob's PC with a 160GB 4 drive system built into the rack, the Mac with a striped dual drive kindly loaned by LaCie's London office for the project. From Queen's side, there was Justin and Chris, the engineer from Brian May's studio. When the multi-tracks were taken out of their boxes and loaded onto the 2" machine, an edit flew apart on the first wind through and then the house engineer, noticed that the tape was shedding oxide quite badly. Taking advice from Kerry in Abbey Road's archiving department that the tapes should be baked at 50degrees for 4 days, they were duly put into the Abbey Road oven. Four days later the team reassembled in Studio 3 and began the process of transferring the 24 track into Nuendo. The baking had successfully dried out the oxide on the tapes and so shedding was no longer a problem. Indeed the transfer of the Bohemian Rhapsody multitrack, done first as it was possibly the most problematic, as there were so many stories about it having numerous edits and having worn so thin you could see daylight through it, was accomplished quickly and with very little fuss. There were no edits or thin tape, so clearly at some point once the basic structure of the song had been edited together, the entire thing had been copied across to a piece of multitrack tape. However, there is no empty space on the tape, as every little space has been filled with additional harmony vocals or guitars, drum ambience or the famous gong. On one track Dolby A needed to be switched in and out during the transfer because it had been used on drums but not on anything else.
The main thing was that everything from the original release was clearly on the tape and in the first playback it sounds remarkably like the mixed single, except for the three alternative lead vocals. Other tracks on the album were more complicated. The intro to the opening track Death on Two Legs was found in two sections after the main song on its multi-track, the loud guitars and effects in one section and the stereo piano part which is the first thing you hear on the record in a second, presumably spun in from a two track during the mixdown and fortunately copied to the end of the multitrack just for completeness. However, Nuendo's editing capabilities soon had this reassembled in the correct order ready for the mixdown. Similarly, engines being revved in a separate place on the multi-track of "I'm In Love with My Car" (originally the B-side of Bohemian Rhapsody) were easily re-united with the main song.
Sadly all the three sections of the Prophet's Song spread across two multi-tracks did not include all of the original song from the album, although the third section did go straight into "Love of My Life" as on the original album. However, the only sign of the a cappella vocal section in the middle was a tantalising 16-part track sheet which fell out of one of the 24-track boxes. A search has since failed to turn this tape up and so this section will have to be processed into 5.1 from the stereo master (something that had already been decided for the God Save The Queen guitar instrumental which closes the album, the multi-track of which was known to be missing before the transfer session started).
All the material transferred into Nuendo has now been taken over to LA by Rob Hill for Elliot Scheiner to do the 5.1 mix of Night of the Opera which should be released by DTS some time in the autumn.

The BEST AIR GUITAR ALBUM IN THE WORLD EVER has been doing fabulously
well, as you've all probably seen - the TV ads, and Word of Mouth on
the streets about how great the Track Listing really is, seem to have
propelled the album to ever greater heights. In the first couple of
weeks we were selling four or five thousand and being pleased about
that - but now the thing is doing around 35 thousand weekly and
they're working hard to print it fast enough to keep up! I'm really
very proud of it - it was just a fun idea at the beginning, just a
pipe dream from Pete, Justin, and I… But after a lot of serious
work it really did materialise into the kind of Dream Guitar Album
that I always wanted to make - it's been warming my heart in my car
ever since… and to be able to get all that magnificent seminal
guitar music to the ears of young folks just starting out playing
guitar is a great feeling for me.
Big Thanks to all who helped us make it happen!!! - especially Steve
Pritchard at Virgin records UK.
The new edition of the BRIAN MAY GUITAR is also doing brilliantly
well so far. It's JUST out on sale - and so far every one that's
been made is already sold. For those who haven't come across it,
it's the new edition of replicas of my own Homemade guitar which my
Dad helped me to build 40 YEARS AGO! We designed the original all
from scratch, aiming to make a guitar which would feed back through
the air in the best way, making an instrument that would 'Sing' with
its sustain and tone. Somehow it worked, and the 'Red Special' has
been the instrument I have used for 99 per cent of every Queen
recording and live shows, as well as my own outings for "Back to the
Light" and "Another World".
Two previous editions of "Brian May Models" were made by Guild
guitars of the USA, all now unobtainable except at ludicrously
inflated prices second-hand. Burns of England have now made a new
model, in close consultation with me, with Pete Malandrone my Tech,
and with Greg Fryer (who made me 3 beautiful identical clones of the
guitar 5 years ago, christened Paul, John, and George) which is
excellently made and sounds almost indistinguishable from the
original Red Special. It's also much more affordable, at 500 quid or
so.
The new BURNS BM model was rave-reviewed in GUITARIST magazine a
couple of months ago and they have now named it their Guitar of the
Year! Thanks Guys!!! So I am well happy with this new venture - and
hope that the guitar will inspire many more young players to ROCK!!!
I've been very busy. Just got back from L.A. where I was helping to
put the finishing touches to the new 5.1 Surround mix of our 1975
album, "A Night at the Opera". It sounds COLOSSAL!!! To hear it you
will need a 5.1 system, and a dedicated DVD player which plays the
Sound DVD format. The surround sound is produced exactly as in the
new Cinema THX systems - two speakers in front, left and right, two
in the back, left and right, a "hard cetre" speaker in the middle in
front, and a Sub-Woofer some place, preferably under your seat! The
ANATO album is perfectly suitable for surround - since there was
always too much on our multitrack tapes to condense down to just
stereo! It's amazing now to hear all those vocal harmonies and
guitar orchestras zooming all around your head. The project was
piloted by hugely respected producer Elliot Steiner, and our own
original co-producer, Roy Thomas Baker. I went over to Capitol
Studios (under that building that looks like a stack of 45 records on
Vine Street in Hollywood) to meet them, since I was the only one who
could remember where all that bounced stuff was meant to go! It was
also a chance to be creative in the new medium, and I tried to do all
the stuff we WOULD have done at the time if we'd had the technology
at our disposal. It's VERY interesting!!!
The final Surround mix of Bohemian Rhapsody, just one of the tracks
on this epic work, and by no means the most complex, is being rushed
to Munich for inclusion in the Planetarium show there which opens on
12th December.
The Planetarium Show is something Justin and I have been putting much
energy into, along with its creators, headed by Markus Steblei in
Munich. It's a trip - really - through Time and Space - you'll see
what I mean if you manage to get there some time in the next few
months - we've used much of the Planetarium's natural night sky
projections (they have probably the finest Zeiss projector in Europe,
if not the World) plus many very new laser and imaging devices, to
make a programme which at times will make you feel you are seeing
Queen as we might have been in the 3rd Millennium. I'm particularly
pleased with a disturbing and beautiful depiction of "Mother Love" in
a kind of cosmic graveyard, and a new edit I produced of "Track 13"
which is a trip in itself, as those of you who discovered its secret
on Made in Heaven will know…. You will also see many restored images
like the Cels used for the "It's a Kind of Magic" video, and - oh
yes, Bohemian Rhapsody as never before…
We hope that the Planetarium show will be able to be mounted in other
planetaria in the future, first in Germany, and then perhaps
elsewhere, where compatible technology becomes available.
Finally - WE WILL ROCK YOU - THE MUSICAL -! It's been unbelievably
time-consuming but in the best possible way - the development of the
ideas is continually challenging and exciting, and we are every day
coming into contact with great talented people - only today at what
must be our 50th day of just singing auditions we found a young lady
with a WONDERFUL voice - we're hoping to bring her into the cast. We
start rehearsals for real in the middle of January; the sets are
being constructed as we speak, and the arranging of the songs is in
the hands of Roger and myself and a great team of Professionals -
Mike Dixon being joint musical Supervisor with us. Movement,
direction, and script interpretation are also very interactive
between us, but headed by the great Chris Renshaw in the director's
chair, and the legendary Arlene Philips as chief choreographer. Our
trusty manager Jim Beach is Producer, along with ourselves and Ben's
Management team, and Robert DeNiro's company, Tribecca.
The phenomenal Ben Elton is of course our scriptwriter, and very
fabulous he is too - also No. 1 Fiction writer this Christmas -
Congratulations Ben! - with his fascinating book "Dead Famous". I
devoured it already - it's a great read - anyone remember Agatha
Christie? - well it's a bit like that, but with all the force
of Ben's devastating sardonic wit added in - a must!
OK, enough advertising! Have a WONDERFUL Christmas season - And
start working on the New Year RES's …. See you there!
Cheers and Hoorah!

Bohemian Rhapsody recently won a poll as favourite song to "air guitar" too...
Newspapers in the UK have reported that Brian may work with ex-5ive member Ritchie in the future.
Queen + 5ive released a version of 'We Will Rock You' that hit the UK number 1 spot.
5ive split up recently saying that they could no longer do justice to their fans or themselves.
John Deacon and Brian May have recently both been made BMI 'Million-Airs'.
It is a special award given by BMI to celebrate more than 1 million radio broadcasts in the USA of "We Will Rock You" and "Another One Bites The Dust".
On November 20th DTS Entertainment and Valley Entertainment will release an all region DVD-A release of Queen's A Night At The Opera. It has been remixed in dts 5.1 surround and also has the best stereo track ever released.
What I am excited about is the original 1975 music video of Bohemian Rhapsody in DTS 5.1 Digital Surround.
The end of Bohemian Rhapsody featured in an advert for the UK edition of 'who wants to be a millionaire'
The lines 'nothing really matters...' and the heavy solo (yes in that order!!) were should ina short advert about the current contestant
Diana Ross will release her version of the Carole King song "Goin Back" later this month.
This was the song Freddie recorded under the name of Larry Lurex as his first solo single.
Diana chose to do the song after being inspired by Freddie's version and used his version as her reference when recording the track with Robbie Williams' collaborator Guy Chambers. The song is released by EMI on October 29th.
Mel C has spoken about her love for all things Queen...
Mel C was reported as saying:
"I'm a massive Queen fan.But it was scary recording such a classic song [Bohemian Rhapsody]. Freddie Mercury is one of my biggest heroes and I love Brian May's sound, he's unique, I'd love to work with him one day. I hope they like the version Russell and I did!
At the Cambridge union society on Tuesday Brian performed We will rock you to a standing ovation. He spoke frankly about his personal problems and his spell in therapy two years ago. He also mentioned that a solo album may also be released in the future.
amq by Edward Haworth
I was lucky enough to attend a talk that Brian May gave at the
Cambridge Union earlier tonight (yesterday). It was a great
priviledge to finally 'meet' the man himself. And whilst it makes me
feel vaguely like a spy typing this, he said some things I am sure you
are all itnerested in.
He opened his talk with a speech against the bombing of Afghanistan
and played Bob Dylan's "With God on Our Side" on acoustic - a great
song and very played. I was suprised by how political he could be, on
this issue and on animal rights he put forward a very persuasive, non
dogmatic and understated argument.
He closed by playing "We Will Rock You" on his red special and the
Deacy amp (!), which we got to isnpect (and even touch) later. He
mentioned that he came to Cambridge for an interview in his time and
talked briefly about his life (mostly academic) before Queen.
The rest oif his talk was given to questions. The songs he are most
proud of are "Too much love..." (the playing of which at the tribute
concert is his fondest live performance)and "We will rock you" and his
favourite album is "Queen 2" (and although he criticised The Works and
Hot Space he said he basically stood by them). On the subject of
albumst he wished people had the chance to listen to the studio albums
rather then the greatest hits releases. The song he would like most
of all to have written is Lennon's "Jealous Guy". He refused to go
into much detail when asked about the biggest bender Queen went on,
but mentioned female mud wrestlers and the infamous New Orleans party
:). He defended John against someoneone who asked if he had any real
input into the band "he wrote our best selling single..." (another one
bites..). He mentioned Freddie many times, and how he still misses
him, but he said he was finally comfortable talking about him again -
mostly.
In terms of the future he said he planned to record another solo album
"when he had something to say again". The Queen musical (no longer
directly about them) and a rock show/planetarium opening in Munich are
projects he is very pumped about. Also he mentioned the entire "Night
at the opera" album is being remixed into Dolby 5.1 (presumably DVD
audio) by the original producer - the first time he said anyone has
been allowed to mess with the original recording of BohRap. This
sounds fantastic and will be first heard at the Munich planetarium
opening. He spoke very enthusiastically about his positive
relationship with Roger, he said they ahd hoped to do more work with
Robbie Williams, but was dissapointed that this no longer looked
likely. Unfortunately he said both Roger and himself have very little
contact with John anymore, who had moved on. When I asked him later
if he thought Queen would ever work together on new material he said
he thought it was very unlikely - that that moment had passed and that
future collaboration between Roger and himself would carry on with the
musical and other projects as the closest thing to any new Queen work.
When I asked him if then Smile would ever reform he just laughed.
Hopefully some of the above will be interesting - it was a fantastic
evening - the man is amazing, the most unlikely rock star ever.
The Official Queen Website has announced that a number of Queen DVD's will be released starting from next year.
The first DVD release will be the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert, set for release in April 2002.
The DVD will include rehearsal and backstage footage.
The LA based tribute band Sheer Heart Attack is to be featured in a "Rockumentary" style movie about tribute bands.
From Brian Maybe of QMS
There is a brand new documentary of tribute bands, called, 'Tribute,'
premiering at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood, Nov 3. "Sheer Heart
Attack - A Royal Tribute to Queen" is among the featured bands, as is
"Superfan" and fellow QMS member, Mark Eldridge! For more info, and

Listeners of South African radio station 5fm have voted 'Bohemian Rhapsody' as best ever Rock song.
The radio station renamed October "Rocktober". The best Rock song poll was held in the
first week, ending on Friday 5 October.
In 1985 Queen played several dates in South Africa and were blacklisted by the United Nations.
At that stage South Africa was subject to various sanctions due to the apartheidpolicy of the then South
African government. Queen maintained that they were "apolitical".
The re-release of the 'We Will Rock You' DVD has been postponed until October 30th.
The DVD will be available in both Dolby Digital and DTS formats. It includes a commentary by directory Saul Swimmer.
Interestingly, until at least a few weeks ago, Queen management knew nothing of this release.
Guitarist magazine, who will be featuring Brian in their forthcoming November 2001 issue are having a best Rock Band poll.
Go to http://www.guitarist.co.uk/news/news_page.asp?ID=4764 and vote for Queen as the best rock band ever. At the moment they are joint top with Led Zepp (25% each) lets see them at the top...ya?!
Information has been released suggesting that Brian's interview with Guitarist magazine may be his last.
From http://www.guitarist.co.uk/
Imagine how many times Brian May has been interviewed over his career; the
number must run into thousands. A downside to this is that he's probably
been asked the same questions on almost every occasion. Well, the November
issue of Guitarist features what Brian has said will almost certainly be his
LAST INTERVIEW, and we've racked our brains to come up with some questions
he's never been asked before. Which guitar would he have favoured if he'd
never actually built his own? The answer to this and other unique
ponderables appears in our exclusive interview.
The second is a worldwide exclusive: the first ever review of the brand new
Burns Brian May Signature guitar. With a UK RRP of £499, its popularity
would already seem to be assured, but what's it actually like? We probe its
crannies and fondle its switches to bring you an exhaustive review, complete
with comments from both Brian and his trusty technical sidekick Pete
Malandrone.
Finally, what's a major review without a CD audio demo to back it up? With
his usual affability, Brian himself has recorded and exclusive 11-minute
demo of the Burns Brian May guitar, which includes A/B test between it and
the original Red Special, an audio walkthrough and an exclusive piece of
music just for Guitarist.
Appetite whetted? It should be!
The November issue is on sale 4th October.

The Munich Planetariums website has released some details about the forthcoming Queen Multimedia Laser show:
Taken from http://www.fdt.de/planetarium/queen.phtml
A new spectacular music and laser show is designed to take place in the
Munich planetarium before the end of the year 2001. Ten years after
Freddie Mercury's death the global hits by the legendary group "Queen"
will be presented in a new dimension.
The 60 minute multimedia show includes the many mega hits by Queen and
a lot of surprises and even world premieres. Right now Brian May is
working with the producers to decide on the setlist and the arrangement
of the show. "For me the Munich planetarium does not only have the most
beautiful starry sky but also the biggest creative potential. I am
fascinated by the idea to produce a planetarium show using Queen
material, because
astronomy has always been my hobby and I studied astrophysics" says
Brian May who is looking forward to the cooperation.
For more than two decades the British rock band "Queen" dominated the
international popular music. And even ten years after the death of their
eccentric lead singer Freddie Mercury, Queen music still has an impact
on today's music world. The idea to create a planetarium show around the
successful Queen catalogue is not new. But only recently the team
succeeded in winning the band's approval. Within the next weeks a
spectacular
multimedia show based on the comprehensive Queen music-, picture-, and
video archives will be created.
The music and lasershows in the technical forum of the Munich
planetarium are unique. Latest state-of-the-art multi media technology
allow for the "melting" of the show elements. The audience will see a
unique symbiosis of music elements, laser, panorama and video
sequences, and projections through the whole dome. However it's not
only technology that is important, but also the input of the production
team. Musicians, director, laser and
multi media programming team, computer animation and graphical art
specialists work together to create the unusual show from the selected
visual and sound material to be presented in the 20 metre diameter 360°
dome.
Since the opening in 1993 various music and laser shows have been
produced and shown to large enthused audiences: for example the "Pink
Floyd laser show", "LaserMagic", "Startime", "Snap Lasershow",
"LaserMania", HardtranceMania", "Peter Maffay- encounters", "Yello -
Pocket Universe" etc
The new multimedia show is scheduled to be presented twice a day in the
planetarium beginning 13th December 2001. Tickets will be on sale 15th
October 2001.
In Loaded magazine, there's a poll of the wildest parties EVER!
Number 1 is at best spurious in origin.
Caligula's grand bash where decadent really didn't do justice to what was going on! Still, as it was about 290 million years ago or something, nobody actually has any first hand evidence of it ever actually happening in the great detail in which it is described.
So-where does that leave us? Well, we must look to the number 2 spot to give us a real winner, and sure enough-No 2 is the launch of "Jazz" in New Orleans.
The review is fairly funny, as it starts with the words "Freddie Mercury was not the sort of person to do things by halves..." and you just know what's coming. "Cocaine and Champagne, naturally. A veritable mountain of the former, chopped into the desired shape on plates on dwarves heads, and enough of the latter to sink the QE2. The only shame is that the review finishes with "Shite album though..." (which, ofcourse, is totally incorrect).
So I just thought I'd pass that on to remind us all that it wasn't just music at which Queen excelled, it was being cool at every verse end!
The BBC are reporting that Mel C (of Spice Girls fame) has recorded a version of Bohemian Rhapsody.
The "singer" recorded it with opera singer Russell Watson. She has also recorded "Barcelona" with the singer.
So Solid Crew's Harvey also features on the single. He raps in the middle of it.
You can view the BBC story at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/news/010927_melc.shtml
Speculation is mounting that there will not be United Kingdom single release of 'We Are The Champions', with Queen featuring Robbie Williams.
The release was supposed to take place during the UK cinema release of 'A Knights Tale'. That was a number of weeks ago.
Given that the film has passed it's date of being a 'hot commodity', the most commercially astute release date may have passed.
Robbie Williams is intending to release a new album in early November, featuring Swing classics performed in a Frank Sinatra style. It may be unlikely that his management would want a different kind of release prior to this.
As well as this, record shops in the UK are not showing the single on their 'upcoming' releases list.
The pop group 5ive, who had a No. 1 hit with the Queen collaboration "We Will Rock You" in 2000, have split up live on MTV.
You can read the full news story on the BBC's site
In Argentina Rivendel played last saturday a lot of Queen songs in The Roxy in Palermo. The show was excellent
There were about 400 persons. IT was really great!!!!!!!!
Brian May and Roger Taylor appeared at the official Freddie tribute in Hackney, London.
As the SAS Band started to play Radio Ga Ga, Brian and Roger appeared on stage and the crowd went mad! I was nearly in tears, especially when they played no one but you. The lead singer of Iron Maiden (i forget his name) also came on to sing I Want to Break Free.
There is an advert for a British music TV channel called magic featuring 'Don't stop me now.'
It starts of with some bloke lying in a hospital bed and suddenly all these nuns jump up and start singing 'Don't Stop me Now.' Its actually quite funny.
Apparently Capital Gold are having a Queen day
Capital Gold are meant to be dedicating tomorrow to Queen on their station, tune in to see if it's true and what's going on.
The video to "These Are The Days of Our Lives" has been featured at the end of the BBC show "Top of the Pops 2"
The version that was played was the US version, featuring animation.
The "new" video features the old version with a cartoon story put into it, following the story in the song - boy meets girl at a fairground, they fall in love, drive away in a flying car, ride on a rollercoaster, look back on their lives together when they are grown up (aahhhhh, sweet).
It will be on again on Saturday, please set your videos!
Ed: If anyone can capture this digitally, or provide me with a VHS tape of it, I would be happy to put it on-line for Queen fans around the world.
It appears the NATO DVD-Audio release has been delayed again.
Valley Entertainment has sent a mass e-mail stating that the ANATO DVD release was delayed until January 15
(at least in the US).
BBC Radio 2 are to broadcast a tribute to Freddie, called The Mercury Tapes, on Saturday 24th November at 8pm UK time.
It is said to contain interviews with Freddie never before broadcast.

The Stormbringer Ruler Album contains a special song tributed to Queen
A friend of mine told me that on the label of the third album of this italian metal band we can
find a song ideated in tribute to QUEEN.(For Evermore is the title, if i remember correctly)
Shop staff were lost for words when an irate customer demanded the free gift she was promised with the
CD she had just bought.
They had to explain it to her gently - the advertised gift with The Best Air Guitar Album In The World Ever
was... an air guitar.
'She was not happy,' said Graham Prior, deputy manager of WHSmith at the Metro Centre in Gateshead.
'Perhaps we should have handed her an air guitar and told her not to damage it because we would be unable to exchange it.'
According to DVDEmpire.com, Queen's ANATO DTS release is now delayed for November 27th.
Let's hope that this is the only delay in release dates.
Conflicting reports have the Brian May produced 'Air Guitar' album hitting the UK charts.
The Queen Fan Club lists the album at number 15 on the UK compilation charts, with queenonline.com listing it at number 7.
5 of the main eastenders charcters sing i want to break free in the almost exactly costumes queen wore for the video.
For those who watch eastenders
Barry and Beppe were Freddie
Gary was Roger
Dr Trueman was Brian
Jim was John
On Friday the 16th on the programme Children in Need the eastenders cast are going to do a Freddie Mercury Tribute by singing Bohemian Rhapsody.
They will be singing this in the second part of Children in Need which is on on Friday the 16th of November. It will performed between 10:00pm to 02:00am.
Brian May appeared on channel 4 on sunday morning to promote the release of the Air Guitar album...
Brian appeared on Popworld, promoting the air guitar album. Luckily i managed to get it taped.
The whole thing lasted about 3 minutes and basically consited of Brian saying a bit about the album, followed by home video footage of someone playing air guitar, followed by a brief look at the advert with some behind the scenes footage, and then back to the studio where brian anounced that he had brought his air guitar, and then he mucked about a bit with the air guitar.
All in all nothing amazing, but nice to see brian on TV.
Music magazine Classic Rock has a Nineteen page tribute to Freddie.
I browsed at the magazine section in my local newsagents and spotted a picture of Freddie on the
front of one. The picture on the front is from the Bohemian Rhapsody single cover. The magazine also
looks at all of Queen's albums. There is also a cheeky cartoon featuring Roger, Brian, John and Robbie Williams.
Miracle has been officially asked to play at the Queen convention in Prestatyn 2002. Of course the guys
consider this as a great honour. You can get involved also...
The band wants the fans to experience something different than the years before. Not only some
greatest hits will be performed, but also songs that hardly any cover band has played before.
Just saw the advert for the best Air Guitar Album! You hear "Rock This Way" by Run
DMC/Aerosmith, and see someone with huge amounts of curly hair, spinning on his head then
doing a back flip, then stands up and it's BRIAN!
He then gos on to play air guitar with Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, while laughing his head off!
If someone out there has the technology, could you please turn this advert into a movie for the net so
everyone else can see and have a good laugh as well?

The Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard has chosen a Queen song as his "favourite song" in a Radio
station question and answer session.
Mr Howard was asked from a selection of songs as to which one
was his favourite. He chose 'We Will Rock You'. Other songs
suggested in the a lineup were Power and The Passion, You're Not the Boss of Me and Semi-Charmed Life.
Ed: Australia is at the tail-end of a Federal Election campaign.

Robbie Williams is continuing to page homage to Queen nearing the end of his world tour.
Appearing in Perth, Western Australia on November 1, his show had a notable Queen slant.
The song leading into the beginning of the concert was fat bottomed girls, which got the crowd clapping.
In the middle of the show, Robbie engaged the crowd in a number of "de-oh" very similar to those featured in the Live At Wembley video.
The show finished with 'We Are The Champions'. Robbie introduced the song saying 'you'll know this one' and that 'you have to sing it loud'. During the performance, Robbie got a Freddie-trademarked half-mike stand.
The crowd went absolutely nuts, all singing the Queen classic. It was fitting tribute to the greatest band, in the world, ever...
Hard to believe but it's 10 years since Freddie left us. The Official Australian Freddie Mercury Tribute will take place in Sydney on November 24th between 5pm and midnight.
Place: Pittwater RSL Club (Main Sail Room), 82 Monavale Road, Monavale.
Special Showing: Live at Houston '77, Live Music 'Tribute Band', Videos, Prizes, including Freddie Mercury Karaoke!
Cost: AU$30.00 (incl. finger food).
The new 'We Will Rock You' DVD has been released. The following review is from long-time Queenzoner, Michael Allred.
First off, the packaging is new. Instead of that generic silhouette of
Freddie, the new DVD has a very nice shot of the band on stage.
The tracklisting is identical to the previous DVD release.
Putting in the disc we see a nice animated menu with Queen playing in
the background.
Starting off with the video/audio presentation...
The film is presented in anamorphic widescreen finally giving fans the
chance to see the film in it's intended ratio. Afterall, the film was
originally shot for an IMAX type show on a 5 story tall screen.
This is a completely NEW video transfer, this time in high-definition.
The differences between this DVD and all previous home video releases
are very noticable. The new DVD shows so much more detail, the clarity
in some shots was stunning. It also gave much more depth to the lighting
Queen used on stage. All specs of dirt, scratches, hair, etc were
removed. This is the BEST "We Will Rock You" has ever looked.
The audio is a new Dolby Digital 5.1 mix and again, it's something to
behold. You will never hear a better sounding Brian May guitar solo, the
mix is that good. (There is also a seperate DTS release of the disc for
those that have DTS receivers.)
Concerning the extras, there is a informative audio commentary track by
the film's director, Saul Swimmer. He shares plenty of anecdotes such as
how the members of Queen insisted on screening the film seperate from
each other, that Roger poked fun at the way Freddie held his hands at
the piano and how Brian basically ignored all the cameras insisting that
his performance was for the fans at the concert and nothing else. One
odd thing Swimmer said was calling Queen a "cult band". They were coming
off their biggest success ever in North America at the time and that
equals cult status?
There is an extremely easy Queen trivia quiz to play (though there are
some mistakes as calling "The Loser in the End" simply "The Loser" but
these are minor quibbles.)
Also included are bios of the band and for each seperate member. You can
also check out a Queen discography, complete with album covers,
tracklistings and how they did in the charts (they only refered to the
UK charts for some reason.)
Then there is a virtual tour of Queen landmarks in England where you
take a subway to each location (such as Kensington Market, the Queen fan
club, etc) all the while hearing subway announcements like 'please watch
your step' which made it fun.
All in all this is a no-brainer purchase, even if you own the previously
released DVD. The new widescreen hi-def transfer and audio mix is worth
it alone.
Another year is finishing. Let`s hope for the best in EE.UU, Afganistan
and in all over the world for the next
one. I only want peace on earth. In my country, Argentina, there are a lot of
troubles but I hope
next year will be better.
On December 25 will be celebrating Christmas, just raise our glasses
and ask for peace in Afganistan and EE.UU as well as a better world. Besides,
don`t forget there are a lot
of people starving, that people need our help.
GOD BLESS YOU!!, GUILLERMO URSI
Again Queen tops a Dutch poll. This time the Dutch Radio 2 Top 2000 of the year 2001.
For the third year in a row, Queen are voted No. 1 with Bohemian Rhapsody. There are 16 Queen
songs in the list. You can find the complete list at http://top2000.omroep.nl/2001/
Queen were played at the recent VH1 Fashion awards.
We Will Rock You was played during one of the "Fashion Designer Of The Year" nominee segments. I beleive it was for Mark Jacobs(?)... who won designer of the year, by the way.
This isn't really BIG Queen news but I personally felt glad to hear some Queen music being played at the awards.
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is featured in the forthcoming movie "The Sweetest Thing".
The movie stars Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate.
The movie appears to be a romantic comedy.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first "professional" review of the new DVD audio
release of Queen's "A Night at the Opera" featuring the new 5.1 surround and DTS mixes we've all been reading about.
Queen was featured on Lifetime TV's "Disney's American Teacher Awards".
Queen was featured on Lifetime TV's "Disney's American Teacher Awards". At the start of the show, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" could be clearly heard throughout the theater.
It's not the most important news in the world, but it's nice to know Queen is still being used... and for such a good cause, I might add.
Through Queenonline.com, Brian May has sent a Christmas message to Queen fans around the world.
I've been feeling good about Queen World and my own smaller Other
World over the last few weeks.
Be Happy!
Be Peaceful! (Especially peaceful!)

Brian

With Queen ramping up for DVD releases, I thought it'd be interesting to learn which concert fans would like to have FIRST on DVD.
Now I understand the "Freddie Mercury Tribute" is due next April but that's not exactly Queen is it? Naturally I'm thinking of concerts while Freddie was still rockin away. So basically the poll's question goes like this;
Which Queen concert do you want released on DVD first, before any other? It can only be ONE concert.
Please be as specific as possible like answering "Milton Keyes 82" for example. Please list ONLY *one* choice.
The poll will end December 31st, 2001. E-mail your choice to: evilbaby@webtv.net
From queenonline.com:
The time is the future, in a place that was once called Earth. Globalisation is complete. Everywhere, the kids watch the same movies, wear the same fashions and think the same thoughts. It's a safe, happy, Ga Ga World.
"Unless you're a rebel. Unless you want to Rock"
On Planet Mall Rock 'n' Roll has been banned for centuries. All musical instruments are banned. The materials from which instruments were once made are banned. There is no wood, no steel or gut for strings, no skin for drums, these things are long forgotten.
The Company Computers generate the tunes and the kids download them. Nothing is left to chance in the pursuit of profit, hits are scheduled years in advance. Dance moves are rigidly imposed.
"Is this the real life? Is it just fantasy?"
It is the age of Boy Bands and Girl Bands. Of Boy and Girl Bands. Of Girl Bands with a couple of boys in them that look like girls anyway. Of Andro Bands, groups of software created sexless cyber stars. All processed. All manufactured. Dancing in the Ether and lulling the kids into a sleep that has lasted for centuries.
"Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality"
But resistance is growing. Underneath the gleaming cities, down in the lower depths live the Bohemians. Rebels who believe that there was once a Golden Age when kids formed their own bands and wrote their own songs. The Bohemians dream that one day these lost chords will be heard once more. They call this day, The Rhapsody.
"Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see"
Legend persists that somewhere on Planet Mall instruments still exist. Somewhere, the mighty axe of a great and hairy guitar god lies buried deep in rock. Place there in the golden age against a time when it would be needed to inspire the kids anew.
The Bohemians need a hero to find this axe. A crazy rebel with a heart of solid rock who will draw the guitar from the stone and play the ancient anthems.
"He's just a poor boy. From a poor family"
But the Bohemians must find this hero before the Company does. For if the Ga Ga Cops get him first they will surely drag him before the Killer Queen and consign to oblivion across the Seven Seas Of Rhye.
Where is this axe hero? Where is the Hairy One's lost axe? Where is the place of living rock?
"Anywhere the wind blows"
WE WILL ROCK YOU. SPRING 2002
THE RHAPSODY IS UPON US

Coming next year, Queen will be featured in the series of "Pickin' On" tribute albums in which the artist's music is done in a bluegrass style (banjos and all.)
The "Pickin' On Queen" album will be the first in the series to feature vocals (the previous albums were instrumentals.)
Other artists who have been featured in the series were Elton John, Pink Floyd and R.E.M.
Queen's "Thank God It's Christmas" has been featured on a new Christmas album, "The Big 80's Christmas".
The review listed the song as the "lump of coal" of the album, because it was too slow and didn't feature Brian May's signiture guitar work.
Editorial Comment: Nonsense.

Ben Elton has been working hard with the remaining Queen members on the up-and-coming musical. And they've even been working with Robbie Williams!
"We've done some stuff together," confesses Brian, "Some of which has leaked out - it's never really been released properly.
There was the 'We Are The Champions' thing which is in the film 'A Knight's Tale'. We've actually dabbled around in the studio apart from that - not many people know that. But there's never been a plan for Freddie to be replaced - Freddie can never be replaced.
I'm not against the idea of doing gigs with people, but the time and the place and the person would have to be right. Don't get me wrong: I think Robbie is a very serious performing talent in every way that you could want."
Is there more stuff yet to be released? "There's some unfinished stuff lying around somewhere. We get up to these little things on the quiet." Brian claims there are "no plans at the moment" to finish them.
The game is set out in three levels of ascending difficulty, each with 5 Queen tracks to name.
On the completion of each level you will progress to the next. After successfully overcoming
all three levels you will then be able enter and post your details.
All winners will then be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets for the World Premiere
of We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre, London on May 14.

Finally, and the most obscure of requests! Does anyone know any of the nude models from the Bicycle
Race Video, we are keen to track down and interview at least one.
If you can help with any of the above let me know.
