Role: Gadaru is a patron deity of all who risk mishap to sway fortune to their trade. He is favored by the light-hearted but is infamous for perverting selfish wishes of the greedy. Gadaru's darkest side is clear within his evil following: good fortune received by one brings ill fate upon another, and for those who implore his auspiciousness, the payment extracted always outweighs the gain.
The Jester is the son of Olhantam and Kaichea. He is quite fond of Lhuramni, and has fathered her sons Delundar and Felicityn. he is also the father of Eteris, daughter of Isbri, and of Naultan, son of Ul'ty. Gadaru is a master of subtle mischief, and an incurable antagonist. His pranks have earned him the disfavor of other deities, and his is nearly as much an outcast as his mother. Gadaru often appears as a half-elf or faerie creature, but to his evil worshippers he is a red and black fox that speaks in riddles. Common titles for Gadaru are the Jester, Master of Fortune, and Lord of Luck.
The Jester's priests typify his chaotic and fickle nature. They are self-centered individuals who promote personal freedom by undermining lawful society. They happily join any discussion or debate, at once advocating and opposing the same issues. They delight in twisting and perverting the laws to their favor, and often mock priests of Arcannis with ridicule and belligerence.
Gadaru's clergy usually seek to control situations by manipulating others. They relish the thrill of the game, but do not take risks lightly. They believe that neither the gods nor fortune favors the foolish, but it is their right to seize opportunities wherever they appear. The Jester's priests appreciate physical comforts, and if their sermons fail to reap ample donations, a few suggestive comments of ill fortune will usually fill the coffers.
Temples to Gadaru are found in cities or large towns and are rarely located in small communities or unsettled lands.
