Role: Zandaron is the patron deity of earth-based creatures and burrowing animals. He resides deep within the earth, but is also concerned with the world of mortals. He brings forth new life from the ground with every coming of spring and is honored as a patron of farmers.
The Earth Lord is the son of Vandaneran and Chulatae. He is close to his father and his brother Ankaris, but he vehemently opposes his sister Isbri and Ul'ty. Zandaron has four children: Montolos, Syrtolyn, and Throntis, all sons of Jasamai, and Whogam, daughter of Lhuramni.
Zandaron appears to humans as a mature, confident man, possessing a gentle touch with his strong hands. The dwarves praise Zandaron for the metals, ores, and rock they mine from the ground. They know the Earth Lord as an old but powerful dwarf who passes effortlessly through earth and stone. To the gnomes, Zandaron is the creator of gems. He appears to them as a young gnome who happily explores any caves or tunnels he discovers in his travels. In these forms, the Earth Lord wears worn clothes colored green and brown, and carries a sling and pouch full of stones, which he uses for play, not to harm. he has also been known to appear as a huge earth elemental. Common titles for Zandaron are the Earth Lord, the Miner, Father of Farmers, and Tiller of the Soil.
Zandaron's clergy are sworn enemies of the priests of Isbri, the Air Goddess. They are often heartily welcomed in ther travels, particularly in rural communities. Priests of Zandaron bring prayers of hope during winter months and songs of rejoicing in the spring. They prefer the cool, grassy lands of spring to the confines of a building, and find equal enjoyment in caves and plains. They tend to retreat into their temples during the winter, but venture forth as necessary.
Places of worship to the Earth Lord are found throughout most good lands. Chapels and shrines abound near cities, towns and small communities, as well as in the open countryside.
