"IT'S NOT WHAT WE DO - IT'S HOW WE DO IT"
Our slogan has changed a couple of times over the last six years. Our First slogan - used from 1999-2001 - was "WE'RE A HAND UP - NOT A HAND OUT". The reason behind it was because in 1993 I was living on the Street in Vancouver and everywhere I went, I was getting a hand out. I didn't want or need a hand out - what I wanted and needed was a hand up. I thought it was good but when I conducted a Poll on the old website, the new slogan beat out the old one 5-4. For a little while in 2001 I tinkered with changing our slogan to "WE HELP", but that was quickly rejected and as a result, it's still "NOT WHAT WE DO - IT'S HOW WE DO IT"
Another reason I chose to change our slogan was because there are about 4-5 other organizations including The Calgary Homeless Foundation and Homeless Awareness Calgary who are basically all doing the same thing - Trying to beat Homelessness. What I have realized is that in order to effectively combat the problem, you have to change the way things (business) are done to best suit the need(s) of the people who come to us.
