The Autumn Love Song  (Qiu Ge)

My favorite QY's novel with my favorite couple Brigitte Lin & Charlie Chin.  Brigitte&Charlie all look cute.

I finally watched this movie! Thank God! But I haven't got time to write a new review yet. The following review you see here is my old review written before I saw the film.

Among all the QY's novels, everyone might have a different pick for his or her favorite.  My favorite is this little novel called "The Autumn Love Song".  I called it little because it is not like QY's famous hit and many people's favorite "Outside of the Window", nor like her  huge work "Ji Du Xi Yang Hong" or many other works.  It wasn't so critically acclaimed.  However, I just deeply love it.  It's a story of how a couple from different class and background conquered many hardships for their love.

The story is actually quite simple:  boy meets girl, boy loves girl and girl loves boy back.  Some misunderstandings of the third parties, the obstacle from social class standard, and the girl's retarded little brother make them apart.  But love always prevails.  They finally fight their way back for their final reunion.

When they are deeply in love, they often spend their time in the suburb.  That is in the autumn, and the girl sings a beautiful song taught by her mother with a name of "Qiu Ge", that is the title "The Autumn Love Song".  She says the lyrics is just like a reflection of their own story.

The reason I like this novel so much is that I find the two main characters extremely likable and believable that I am not only touched by them but also deeply feel for them.

He comes from a rich family with everything, but finds his life has not begun until he meets this girl.  She is an independent girl with great inner strength, who works hard to support her and her retarded brother after their parents dies.  He is thrilled by her, something about this girl is just breathtaking.  He has met girls much prettier than her, but no one can take his breath away like her.

I can recall many details from the novel, since I still often read it.  The moment when they first meet, the moment when he comes up with a beautiful poem in five minutes and pretends it is an existent song lyrics for her, and the moment when she pretends not thinking of him but finds herself disappointed when he doesn't show up, and many other truthful moments...
