Come Fly With Me
"Come Fly With Me" is a light-hearted
romance comedy. It may not be the best work from my favorite
screen couple Brigitte&Charlie (B&C), but it is still a pleasant
ride to all of their fans. Brigitte&Charlie are so
energetic and dynamic together. Different from their QY's movies
(dramatic and dreamy), this comedy is not so focused on their romance but
rather on many hilarious moments and their flying dreams. The
English title "Come Fly With Me" summarizes the tone of the
movie very well. It is a movie about working towards the dream of
fly. I also quite like the Chinese title, which is so poetic and
remarkable.
Charlie always looks cute when his character is more involved in his work
and behaves a bit retarded to his girl. Brigitte is likable as
always, she is full of spirits and guts when she doesn't have to play the
vulnerable type of role. Watching them together is always fun,
whether they are working together on Charlie's glider, arguing with each
other, playing around or reconciling. Although a bit old-fashioned
and some plots are contrived, this movie is still up-lifting and joyful.

The most memorable scene of this movie is a kissing scene of B&C
besides the river. Brigitte and Charlie are playing around and
splashing the water all over to each other, and suddenly they both stop
and look at each other. Yeah, you know what is about to
happen. They are going to kiss! But this is not the most fun part yet, Charlie begins to kiss Brigitte, and Brigitte stops him
and steps on a rock. She smiles and says
she doesn't want to feel subservient. Then Charlie asks "Oh?
You want the initiative?" and lifts up his head and makes a gesture of
waiting to be kissed. It is one of the rare moments that the guy is
closing his eyes and waiting to be kissed by the girl! Charlie's
facial expression is extremely cute. This kissing scene is
interesting, and full of joy and humor.

Another interesting scene is when Charlie rides on his motorcycle to visit
Brigitte at home. Brigitte doesn't get up yet, but when she learns
that Charlie comes to see her, she is so happy and rushes to see him
without noticing she is wearing a very short and exposed nightdress.
The two are so excited to see each other, Charlie is messy and full of
dusts after the long ride, and Brigitte is wearing very improperly. The two are too happy to notice how they look, leaving the servants and
Brigitte's dad all stunned. A very hilarious scene. Brigitte
& Charlie just look perfect together.
Synopsis
Charlie is a guy who is obsessed of making
a glider to fulfill his dream of fly. He even quits the college to
spend all of his time on the glider and often makes himself hurt and
hospitalized. Brigitte happens to meet Charlie and is impressed by
his straightforward personality and his devotion to his work. The two work together on the glider and love is
developed Brigitte names the glider "the Seagull", what a
beautiful name! However, Brigitte has a rich boyfriend, a snob, who
feels the threaten from Brigitte's admiration to Charlie. He soon
makes a set-up to cause a big misunderstanding between Brigitte and
Charlie. On the top of the misunderstanding, Brigitte feels that she
is ignored by Charlie since Charlie seems to care too much about the gliders
instead of her. Brigitte finally decides to get engaged with her
boyfriend. On the day of the engagement, Brigitte learns the truth
about Charlie. At the crucial moment, Charlie also rushes back to
tell Brigitte he finally finishes his glider. The two happily take off
and leave everyone behind. They ride on Charlie's glider "the
Seagull" and have a pleasant flight. Brigitte's boyfriend comes
to tell them his relationship with Brigitte is over. In the final
scene, Brigitte and Charlie stand on the top of the roof and look up to
the sky, full of joy, hope and promise. A very blissful moment with
a background song " I want to be a seagull, fly with you over the sea
and the sky. Fly into the rainbow, fly into the blue, to be with you
forever..."

Trivia
When Brigitte is taking a bubble
bath, she
is singing a song in her movie "Forever My Love" (Feng Ye Qing,
or Maple Tree Love), which is another hit in the same year--1976.
Most time in the movie, Charlie is dressed
very casually. He is in his undershirt (vest) when he is working on
his glider, and in bandages when he is in hospital. Charlie doesn't
seem to care about how he looks and doesn't care about making fun of
himself, but he still looks hot nevertheless. Brigitte has a
funny moment in which she dresses the traditional manzu dress in Qing
dynasty.
Brigitte&Charlie all look very good in
jeans.
