This is a really out of focus picture of checking the idler gear to block clearance. The idler gears in the Pete Jackson setup are free floating and need to be held in by the timing cover. My timing cover wouldn't go on all the way to start with; it was about 1/16-1/8" from the block when it hit the idler. The directions said to machine the cover so that you have between 15-60 thousandths of an inch clearance between the idler and block. I went out and bought a '94-'95 cover (one without provisions for the crank position sensor) thinking it might have more room, but it didn't and my '96 cover proved to be easier to machine anyway. |
