Rhain's Weyr | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
My brothers tell my story better than I do, particularly our Journeyman Harper Bethtavios. I can rarely believe that even though we're all just barely 14 turns old, he's already a Journeyman! Myself, I have always enjoyed the company of animals, and I am an Apprentice Beastcrafter. I seem to have an ability to call errant animals (mostly young ones) in from the rain or away from danger, almost as if bespeaking a dragon. Speaking of dragons... When Beth came back to us for his visit, it wasn't just him getting Searched, just soon afterwards, another rider had come to us and nearly trampled some of the gardens getting to me! I'd been out chasing one of the goats (again) and here was a Bronze with his great nose right over the path! I could hear very distinctly that the dragon thought I would be good for candidacy, and I laughed out loud. I was a beast crafter already! It was when that same dragon came calling to pick me up a couple sevendays later, that he clipped his huge wing on one of the stones overlooking the cothold. The poor thing's wingtip was blooded (well, that strange ichor which is native to creatures here on Pern came out) and I felt quite compelled to help him out! I found some leather straps and some sewing materials, and under the instruction of my Master Healer, we aided the dragon and his rider. We had to fly the "long" way around, to Aneris Weyr, since the dragon didn't dare go between with this injury! Now, after landing and being prepared, I have met a few of the locals and I want very much to become part of this Weyr! |

Rhain has Impressed at Aneris Weyr!
This dramatic boy is Brown Watchwher Rattu! I found him at Gallimim Weyr, while I was visiting my sibs. He's so angry looking, but he's really a good watch wher, and he's very devoted to his task. I think he's smart enough to figure out who's a friend and who's not, and he doesn't eat my other pets! That's always good in a new wher-pet! |

If and when I impress, I've been told that all of Mama Tani's Fosterlings are welcome to join a Wing at the Protectorate! I'm really looking forward to that, but I have to Impress first!

When the hatching started, most of the girls were still sitting around talking about sewing or hunting or starcrafting or whatever they were all about. It was nice, but I had found only a few friends among them. We rushed into our white robes, and dove down to the sands. "Do we count that as a green hatching first? Or a bronze?" Someone asked loudly, because the first nose to be seen from an egg was indeed green-- but her brother in bronze managed to get free of his shell and on the sands first! I waited but it was so hard... The bronze was impressed and then suddenly I found myself looking into these beautiful blue eyes! The green had come to me! ME! I like how you look, Rhain, and I like what you want to do in the air. I think we will be okay together, do you think so? Do you like me? My name is Fallith, do you like that? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
"I like you too, Fallith!" I said, of course I did! She was so pretty! Small, like many greens, but she was smaller than that too. I liked that. I showed Fallith away from the sands because she was just about ready to collapse from the heat! It is chilly out here, though! Oh it is too warm in the sands and too cold out here! How am I to be comfortable? And I am hungry! And ... I ITCH!! |

The itching went on and on! Rhain and Fallith grew together, in Aneris. The weyrlings were all much bigger than the little green, but Fallith was quick in the air and could turn on her tail better than most. At a little over one turn old, Rhain and Fallith went between for the first time. It scared them both, but they soon got used to it. It dries my skin, and makes me itch even more than I did before, Fallith announced. "But we must go between, Fallith... And I for one am really tired of mucking out our weyr from the remains of your meals..." I love to hunt, Fallith announced. I should go do it again. "That's why you itch, Fallith, you're still growing some!" Oil me, and I will go out and eat... And then I will go between when I must deposit my waste. You do not do that, do you? "People can't go between without dragons, Fallith," Rhain said, worried about where this was going to go... And true to form, the green laid her eyes into a pretty pattern of arrogant golden green. Rhain could swear she felt the dragon's mind saying "neener neener neener" to her... |
