| In the first Wednesday evening game of 2008, Team Hyman defeated Team Russo 19-10. Team Hyman jumped all over Team Russo right away, loading up with 9 runs in the 1st inning. Team Russo rallied on the strength of Steve "Nash" Flanagan's 2 home runs and Rich "Diesel" Seibert 4 RBI's to tie the game at 9 in the 4th inning, but back-to-back 4 run innings by Team Hyman ended that threat quickly. Mike Middleton had a career game, batting 6-7 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles and 8 RBI's to be named MVP of the week. Captain Hyman also drove in 4 home runs, including hitting his league-leading 4th home run in gaining the cycle, while leadoff hitter rookie Antonio Fraccaroli went 6-7 with his first career home run. Pitcher Mike Wright served 11 innings on the mound (since Team Hyman was always pitching) and earnd a win for his troubles. Former Cy Young winner Greg "Tiajuana" Hawe may have been showing some rust, giving up an uncharacteristic 11 runs in 3 innings of work. Following this game, the Turkey Bowl League went on a brief hiatus while the Commish was away on business, to resume in late May. |
