The Audience is Listening

Click here for the Moviegoer's GuideTHX rocks! There's some things best done at the movie theatres. Although I enjoy renting movies, there's something to be said about watching movies on the large screen with digital sound. The Harkin's Luxury Centerpoint 11 rules when watching movies. It has two levels and fits right into the Mill Avenue atmosphere.
Located close to Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona; Mill Avenue feels alive with energy. Activities include the Mill Avenue Beer Company which serves an excellent selection of draft drinks in yard, half yard, and other glass quantities. The Coffee Plantation which makes Ice Cafe Mocha's and Espresso Caramels. Then there's Fat Tuesdays. They have a great drink called 190 octane, something else called a nuclear cherry, and many other creative alcoholic beverages.
Moving to the north, there's a cool gazebo located next to a circular fountain that you can walk into. Following the catwalk to the center, say something. The echo reverberates and sounds different to you but anyone outside of the fountain hears your normal voice. Its located next to an enclosed concert establishment called Gibsons. Some of the bands sound spectacular.
There's so many other reasons to love Mill Avenue. The first time I visited the Harkin's Luxury Centerpoint 11 Theatres located near Fat Tuesdays, I noticed the neon design hanging three stories above me. At the time, this theatre ranked as one of the best in the state.
I just arrived in Phoenix and had plenty of free time before the fall semester. I wanted to get a better understanding for movies, so I decided to work part time at Centerpoint. Lots of free movies and I wouldn't have any problems securing a real job at the beginning of the next school year.
Or so I thought. Within one week, I moved to 40 hours. Three weeks later, I was asked to open the new Shea complex with a promotion to Assistant Manager in Training. So I skipped university enrollment and decided to be part of opening the largest theatre in Arizona.
Its the first time I had ever worked a 24 hour shift. Most weeks were 80 or more hours. I didn't have a day off until about six weeks in. Through it all, I learned how to work past exhaustion, prioritize tasks, and minimize distractions.
Call it necessary for survival. There were times when I couldn't get enough sleep due to schedule constraints. We learned to work past that. Opening the Harkin's Luxury Shea 14 proved to be a highly rewarding experience.
