Statistics tell me that there are people out there who
never suffer from abuse. . .people who are never hit or raped or hated. I must be running with
the wrong people, because everyone I know has been hurt in some way. Unfortunately,
most of them have been hurt by their own family.
I chose this background to symbolize the bear in all of us. For too many years I thought
the best way to survive was to be a teddy bear. . .to be cute and cuddly and take whatever
abuse came my way. Then a couple of years ago I realized that there was a she bear
inside of me. . .a she bear who was strong and had big claws and could protect herself
and her cubs.
If you are being abused, or even if you aren't, you can find the bear in you. Or the
wolf or whatever animal you need to call on to have the strength to say NO MORE!!. We
all have the right to be safe. We all have the right be happy and secure. And if ANYONE--
whether it is a parent or spouse or a neighbor or even the President of the USA--tries to take those rights away, we CAN stand
up on our hind legs and say "GO AWAY. . .LEAVE ME ALONE".
