INTRODUCTION
You are an investigative
reporter working for the New York Times. Your boss wants you to do
some research on a Native American Tribe. Wanting to get out of the
big city and see a different part of the country, you are up for the challenge.
You are also very interested in learning about a culture that is very different
from your own. The boss says he wants you to present your findings
in front of the editors upon your return. You pack your things and
catch the next flight out, and it's off to investigate.
TASK
Create a poster/visual aid that highlights your research and findings on the tribe you choose to investigate. An example would be to put the tribe's name in the center and "web" your information off it. It should be typed and neatly done and should also include a few pictures. After your poster is completed, you and your partner will present it to the editors (the class).
PROCESS
FIRST - With a partner, select a tribe from those listed below in the information sources.
NEXT- Print off a copy of the worksheetto help you with your research. Both you and your partner should have this sheet!
NEXT - You and your partner will research cultural information about your chosen tribe. (Each number below the tribe represents a different site.) This includes such things as language, food, shelter, location, religious practices, clothing, recreation, festivals, family organization, governmental structure, etc. Use your note-taking worksheet to help you collect and organize the research process. Find as much as you can from all of the sources.
NEXT - Use the information to make your poster/visual aid. Type up your paragraphs in MS Word. Paste/glue information to your oaktag.
