Paramount/Viacom own all things Trek, and I don't...so what?

Muse Missing Scene

Author: Turtlewoman

This episode just cries for a fanfic scene, doesn't it. This scene takes place during "Muse", sometime after the Commander tells the Captain the bad news but before B'Ellana is able to contact Voyager. (I'm sure TPTB just forgot to include it.)

She sat in her darkened quarters, staring out at the stars, tear streaks staining her face. There was nothing she could do now but go to bed and try to sleep. She felt drained. The tears she'd shed seemed to wash away what little energy she'd had left. So she just sat there, staring.

Eventually she noticed her door chime sounding. Quickly she wiped the remnant of tears from her face. "Enter."

Commander Chakotay entered, carrying a tray with a carafe and two cups.

"What are you doing back here? Commander, I'm really not in the mood for a midnight snack."

"Its not midnight, it's 3:00 in the morning and this is not a snack, its breakfast, the breakfast you didn't eat yesterday morning." He crossed the room to put the tray on the table in front of her, sat down next to her and started fussing with the carafe. Computer, increase illumination 25 percent." The lights brightened.

She turned her face from him. "Computer, belay that order! Restore lights to 25 percent."

He continued to pour a fragrant liquid into the cups. "I know you've been crying, Kathryn. I knew you would when I left you two hours ago. At this point in time, you are probably so depressed you can hardly move."

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"Yes, you do. You just don't want to admit it, that's all. If you don't admit it, you can pretend you don't feel it."

"Commander. I know you counsel the rest of the crew but I am quite able to handle…."

"I know. That's why I left. I know that you prefer to grieve in private. But I also know once you feel the grief, you get bitter and once you get bitter, you get depressed and when you feel that level of sadness…"

"Is there a point to all this?"

He smiled and handed her a cup of fragrant liquid, "No, not really. Drink up."

She automatically sipped. Her eyes misted again. "This is Harry's masala chai recipe."

"Not only his recipe, but his stash and he's going to be pissed as hell when he gets back."

"Chakotay, you said yourself the life pod….."

"For almost everyone else, yes. But this is Harry we are talking about. Harry leads the pack in rebirths on this ship. That kid just doesn't know how to stay dead." Chakotay finished off his tea with a flourish and stood, "Well, we've got to find a few more ideas tomorrow, so I'm going to bed. See you in the morning."

Kathryn sat up a bit straighter, "Damn. You're right. He doesn't, does he?"

Chakotay gave her one more smile and a quick wink as he left.

She felt her energy returning as hope within her grew. Looking at the now closed door, she smiled to herself and whispered, "Thank you, my friend."
