How to get to Bayview Junction

Bayview Junction lies within the Royal Botanical Gardens, a large horticultural and parkland preserve on the border between Hamilton and Burlington.

Spring Garden Foot Bridge

There are many good photo locations, but the main gathering point for railway buffs is on the Spring Garden Road footbridge. This spot is excellent in the morning , and has good light all day long, although not quite as scenic when photographing westbounds.

Getting There

If arriving by the Queen Elizabeth Way, take Highway 403 west from the junction at Burlington
Once on Highway 403:
Watch for the exit to Highway 6 North, off the 403 just west of Aldershot.
Take Highway 6 North to the first stoplight (Plains Road).
Turn right (east) on Plains Road. The road will curve to the south. Travel south until you come to a stoplight at a 'T' intersection. (Highway 2, or York Street)
Turn left at the stoplight.
The first street on the right, just before the big bridge, is Spring Garden Road.
(Watch for the Chinese Restauant on the left hand side of the street)
Turn right onto Spring Garden Road. The parking lot, and the footbridge, is on your left.

Snake Road Footbridge

A second footbridge, a little east of the Spring Garden site, has good views in the morning and excellent lines in the afternoon. You can't see the junction itself from the footbridge, but there is a good view east to Aldershot.

To get to Snake Road, take Hillsdale Road which runs east off Plains Road, between York Blvd and Highway 6. Snake Road runs south about 500 yards east of Plains Road - watch for the underpass under the 403. This road dead-ends at the footbridge. A short hiking trail on the south side of the tracks connects this site with the Spring Garden area.

Snake Road is also the best route for pacing CP trains north from the Junction to Guelph Junction.

Be sure to check out the hiking trails and gardens while you're at the Junction - it's a beautiful spot for the whole family.

There are two motels nearby, they may not suit all tastes:

City View Motel, Plains Road between Hiway 6 and York Blvd. Pretty basic.
Esquire Motel, Plains Road east of the Botanical Gardens. Well kept, but NOT for families.

Both Hamilton and Burlington have all the usual motel chains. If youdon't need to be within walking distance, you may want to try a little further afield.
