MaLoki 20 themes: in jest

8. Cake/Sweets/Candy

Koutarou enjoys the little detective’s company. Loki is never distracted by his handphone, because he doesn’t own one, and never drags along random acquaintances, possibly because he doesn’t have those either. If nothing else, Loki is capable of intelligent conversation, which is more than Koutarou can say for his other coffee-drinking companions.

Still, some things about Loki are unsettling. The far-too-knowing smile that he gives when Koutarou receives calls from female schoolmates; his precocious wit and tendency to catch Koutarou off-guard; his ability to consume ridiculous amounts of cake, sweets, and candy, particularly when Koutarou is picking up the tab.

11. Trickery

“Freya isn’t here. Maybe you should ask Narukami-kun; she has this habit of showing up during his baito and asking for me--”

“Freyr will not be deceived!” Freyr proclaimed, stabbing a finger in Loki’s general direction. Koutarou raised an eyebrow. “Devious tricksters like this Loki cannot be trusted.”

Loki sighed, regarding his parfait mournfully. “Okay. I confess. She’s actually back at the mansion, cooking dinner. If you--”

“…is it really okay to send him there?” Koutarou asked, once he had gotten over Freyr’s abrupt departure.

“I’m sure Yamino-kun can handle him,” Loki replied cheerfully, and turned back to his parfait.

12. Wild Goose Chase

Yamino had barely finished arranging the tea tray when an excited pink-haired blur sped down the stairs and out of the door.

"Loki-sama?" Yamino asked cautiously as he pushed open the study door. "Did something happen with Mayura-san?"

"Mayura's company can be rather trying for a Sunday morning," Loki said. "Is that breakfast? Thank you, Yamino-kun."

Yamino set the tray down, obligingly. "And Mayura-san...?"

"On her way to investigate a new, possibly haunted ice-cream parlour," Loki said, picking up a scone. "It doens't actually exist, of course. Join me for breakfast, Yamino-kun? I think we both deserve a morning off."
