Go to: Days at Blake Holsey High
Best Of episode for: Tyler - 3rd |
Outside, the day seems normal. In the backyard, a group of friends talk at a picnic table, Vaughn and Stew are throwing a football around, and three cheerleaders sitting at the steps are laughing. Principal Durst and Tyler talk to each other and Tyler hands her a clipboard and sticks his pen between his teeth. Inside, Lucas enters the lounge where Josie, Corrine, and Marshall sit on the couch. He tells them that “it” is ready and they can try it out this afternoon. It is a gravity sensor that they hope will detect when a wormhole is going to open and eventually allow them to control the wormhole. Josie stops them from talking, hearing someone whispering outside. The four sneak to the window and Josie swiftly pulls open the window.
“You based your gravity sensor on what you learned from a science fiction movie?” – Josie to Lucas. Outside, Tyler is standing against the wall, next to the window. He has heard something about a vortex but the four don’t give him the satisfaction of acknowledging what he thinks he heard. They ask him why he is eavesdropping on them to which he replies they he is just making sure that they know about their shifts for Principal Durst’s charity carwash. All of the proceeds go to a charity promoting children’s literacy. Marshall accuses Tyler of organizing the fundraiser to get onto Principal Durst’s good side but Tyler insists his service to her is not of selfish motivation. The four walk away, going to the door. They don’t really believe that Tyler has overheard anything. On his clipboard, Tyler has written “gravity device + vortex.”
“Oh, I get it. It’s a secret. I like secrets.” – Tyler to Lucas, Josie, Marshall, and Corrine.
In Science, Professor Zackaryackary is teaching about camouflage; there is a chameleon inside an aquarium (not filled with water). Professor Zackary asks Stew if he knows a reason that chameleons change colors. Stew, confidently, replies that the reason is chromatophores. The class looks to Stew in surprise. Stew responds that he had a pet chameleon named Rainbow, which gets a laugh from the class. Stew goes on to say that this chameleon probably changed color (to a dark green) because it is hot, angry, or scared.
“What is happening to me?” – Tyler.
Tyler realizes that he has the ability to camouflage himself as he returns to his normal state. He hears Lucas and Marshall at the door, carrying something heavy. As Tyler begins to panic, Lucas tells Marshall that he believes they will be able to keep an accurate database of the wormhole’s gravity signature. They struggle to open the door as Tyler, still inside the classroom, looks around. He sees Josie outside through a window and concentrates. He begins to change.
“Hackers are odious parasites.” – Principal Durst to Corrine. Outside, cheerleaders are cheering. Josie and Stew, along with others, are washing cars while Lucas is using a vacuum cleaner (he removes a sock that is clogging the Vacuum). “Corrine” walks outside, observing the events. Two boys spray each other with water and throw sponges at each other. “Corrine” sees Vaughn drying off a car; Stew is drying the car’s side. “Corrine” figures that Vaughn knows what is going on. Going up to him, “Corrine” asks Vaughn if he knows anything about Lucas’s gravity sensing device. Vaughn warns her about talking about the topic in front of Stew and that they have to keep the secret, even if they don’t always keep Vaughn informed. “Corrine” changes the topic, telling Vaughn that it is too bad that Josie is going on a date with Tyler. Vaughn seems a bit phased by the news and walks off, saying that he does not care and that Josie can date whoever she wants. Inside, Principal Durst looks outside her window at the event, looking to the car that Stew and “Corrine”stand by. Seeing “Corrine,” Principal Durst does a double take, not believing she has seen what she thought she saw, and turns to see Corrine at her desk. Principal Durst stares at Corrine, who is still at the desk, at horror. Outside, Tyler morphs into Vaughn while no one is around. Looking back outside, Principal Durst now sees “Vaughn.” Corrine asks Principal Durst if she is feeling alright. Pushing the thought out of her mind, Principal Durst responds that she is indeed alright, pulling down the blind shades, and asks how the firewall is doing.
“Dude.” – “Corrine” to Vaughn “What did you just call him?” – Stew to “Corrine”
“That’s gotta hurt.” – Stew. Josie sits down inside another car, in the back seat. “Vaughn” sits down on the opposite side. After uneasily Josie asks him how he is doing, “Vaughn” tells her that he has heard about Lucas’s gravity sensing device. Josie asks how much he knows since she was not sure if Lucas told him anything. “Vaughn” replies that he has heard enough but adds that he doesn’t understand “what all the fuss is about.” Josie tells “Vaughn” that Lucas believes that they can control the wormhole. “Vaughn,” again, says he doesn’t understand why Luccas is making “such a fuss.” Josie tells him that traveling through time is a big deal and reminds him that he has done so. “Vaughn” is stunned to hear that he has traveled in time. Josie asks him if he remembers and “Vaughn” says that that sounds like the kind of thing that he would remember. Josie points out that he is acting strange and wants to know what is wrong with him. “Vaughn” turns the question back at her, saying that there is nothing with him and asks what is wrong with her. Josie gets out of the car. She is kind of unsettled by the experience. Looking back at the car and sees Tyler step out of it, not Vaughn.
“I still don’t get why the little twerp is making such a fuss.” – “Vaughn” to Josie.
In the lounge, Vaughn is throwing darts when Josie walks in. Vaughn is surprised to see her and comments that he thought that she’d be on her date with Tyler. Josie seems a little offended by the comment. He tells her that Corrine told him about it. Josie inquires how long Vaughn has been in the lounge; Vaughn approximates five minutes. Josie tells him that she finished talking to someone who looked like Vaughn about two minutes ago, in a car.
“Close the door, Lucas. If that’s who you really are.” – Josie to Lucas. Second sentence to herself.
The group begins to question each other’s identity. Lucas says that they should question Vaughn. Josie replies that Vaughn is really Vaughn and Vaughn agrees that Josie is who she says she is. Marshall makes them stop, telling them that Tyler is playing them against each other and that it is easy to get information with so many sharing a secret. Professor Zackary walks in, rather cheerful. Josie tells him that Tyler has an ability to change his shape. Professor Zackary agrees this is a problem and, while clicking his pen, tells them that they should come up with a test question; something that Tyler wouldn’t know the answer to but they all would. Professor Zackary writes the question “What is the location of the vortex?” Marshall advises that they write their answers on paper and reveal all answers at the same time. Josie, however, realizes that if one of them is Tyler then they don’t want to say where the wormhole is. Josie comes up with a new question “What happened on October 4th, 1987?” They sit around the a desk; going left: Josie sits in front of the mirror, then Corrine, Marshall, Vaughn, and Lucas (on Josie’s right). Professor Zackary stands in front of Josie and Lucas’s position, using his hand to write against the paper.
“I love it. You kids just can’t get enough Science.” – Professor Zackary to Josie, Lucas, Marshall, Corrine, and Vaughn. Professor Zackary drops his pen. He retrieves it and continues to write. All finish and they pass their answers to their rights.
“Corrine wrote 'the accident at Pearadyne Labs.'” – Josie. “Josie wrote 'Pearadyne.'” – Professor Zackary “Professor Zackary: 'Pearadyne.'” – Lucas “Lucas: 'Pearson’s nefarious experiment.'” – Vaughn “Vaughn: 'The explosion.'” – Marshall “Marshall: 'The accident at Pearadyne Labs.'” – Corrine.
Knowing that they are all “the real McCoy,” they all agree that they must find Tyler and force him out of his disguise. Vaughn tells them that they must keep Tyler away from the wormhole inside Professor Zackary’s office. They all begin to head out. Professor Zackary tells them that he will move Lucas’s gravity sensing device to his office for safe keeping.
“I want all of your science hooligans in my office…now!” – Principal Durst to Professor Zackary.
Inside, the gravity sensor measures strong readings. The Science Club watches Tyler, who is sitting at the fountain in front of the school. Looking up from his book, Tyler smiles back at them. Moving away from the window, they are distressed. Lucas summerizes the result of the events, a month detention and Tyler knows about the wormhole. Professor Zackary paces, which annoys Josie, while trying to think of a solution. She points it out to him and he stops. Marshall tells them that Tyler is back to normal. Josie figures that going through the wormhole reversed his chameleon ability. Lucas, again, highlights the most important thing about what Josie said: that Tyler has been in the wormhole. Their secret is not just theirs anymore. Professor Zackary asks them if a secret is a secret if more than one person knows of it. He tells them that too many people knew about the wormhole and that it was inevitable that another would find out. He continues saying that if Tyler went into the past, a great deal of damage could have been done to the present. However, if Tyler went into the future there is no telling what is coming their way. To keep Tyler from getting back into the wormhole, Josie says that they will need Vaughn’s assistance. Corrine and Marshall agree but Marshall warns Josie that she must watch Vaughn. Lucas objects, saying that Vaughn can’t be trusted. Josie however believes that isn’t true. Lucas, presenting Josie with a dilemma, tells her that if Vaughn is back in the club than he will leave. Lucas leaves the classroom, Josie appears hurt by the decision. Marshall tells her that Lucas will be back. In the janitor’s residence, Josie2 appears. He tells her that Tyler knows about the wormhole and soon the rest of the school will as well. Josie2 tells him that they will have to prepare.
Episode notes:
Why do they still call it a vortex? They know it is a wormhole. Anyways, This episode felt incomplete. It leads into Nanotechnology so it's kind of like a part one of two. I so don't like Tyler's character. The way he talks is rather odd too. I'm not making fun of him, I'm just saying that he sounds so overly confident. Kind of like, he intentionally talks in a softer voice but adds a sarcastic twist to it so that he doesn't sound weak, like Marshall or Lucas sometimes do. The little thing where they all suspected each other and were all "I'm me, really" and "We should check out Vaughn" reminded me of The Crucible with the Salem witch trials. I loved how Vaughn had to read Lucas's answer of "Pearson's nefarious experiment." It was kind of like rubbing salt in the wound of the group's distrust of Vaughn, especially since Vaughn had to read it. Rating: 7/10
