Science projects are due. Lucas and Marshall have built a Van de Graaff generator. Professor Zachary gives it an “A.” Vaughn has built nothing even though knowing the assignment was worth ten percent of his final grade; he tells Professor Zachary that he doesn’t understand science. Next is Josie and Corrine’s project. They have created a “Jocoberator” (named after Josie and Corrine). As Josie is about to turn it on, lightning strikes the school. It runs into the Jocoberator and shock’s Josie, frightening everyone. Josie is alright but no one notices the pliers on the desk behind Josie slowly sliding towards Josie.
At lunch, Josie has saved Marshall, Lucas, and Corrine a table. They, however, tell her that it isn’t a good idea to sit where she is sitting. Corrine spells it out to her and Josie just remains where she is while the rest sit at their table.
"“You’re disrupting the social order. We sit over there and the in-crowd sits over here.” – Corrine to Josie. "You mean you're not the in crowd? What have I been doing with you?" - Josie to Corrine. In walks two girls, one with black hair and one with blond hair, who are do not like Josie’s presence at their table. Josie and the two girls exchange insults.
“This is our table, science girl.” – Cassie (the other girl) to Josie. "Science girl, wow, did you look that one up in a book. Oh no wait, that would require you to read." - Josie to Madison and Cassie. As the girl with black hair picks up her fork, with spaghetti, Josie waves her hand and the spaghetti flies off of Madison’s fork and onto the other girl, sitting next to Madison. The girl screams at Madison while Josie believes she had something to do with it. Testing the idea, Josie waves her hand back at Madison while the other girl is picking up her mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes fly into Madison’s hair. The two look horrified at each other, believing they are doing it to each other, as Josie continues to wave her hands, causing more food to spill on the two girls. Corrine, Marshall, and Lucas, witnessing the event, laugh at their table.
“Are you smiling at me?!” – Madison to Josie. “No, I’m suppressing a laugh.” – Josie to Madison. In Vaughn’s room, Victor walks in and turns off the computer. He tells Vaughn that he has made arrangements with Principal Durst to put Vaughn into the science club. He is disappointed in Vaughn’s grades. Vaughn just looks stunned at his father’s actions.
“Hopefully this will kick start some improvement. At the very least, it will look good on your school record.” – Victor to Vaughn. Josie, Corrine, Lucas, and Marshall walk through the hallway. Josie has told them that the she was behind the event in the cafeteria. Lucas thinks it is awesome but Marshall warns that it may be harmful. As they come to where the entrance to the science room is, they see Professor Zachary coming down the stairway with an armful of books, disabling him from opening the door. From the corner where Professor Zachary can’t see them, Josie uses her new power to turn the doorknob and open the door. Professor Zachary is grateful for the assistance but is confused to see no one in the room to open the door.
“Josie, it might be dangerous.” – Marshall to Josie. “Better than that, Marshall, it might be fun.” – Josie to Marshall. Vaughn walks into science club. He begins by calling everyone an insult and they all just look the other way at his action. Professor Zachary turns back to the chalkboard while Vaughn goes to sit on a stool near Josie, at the front of the room. As he is about to sit down, Josie uses her power to move the stool from under him, causing Vaughn to fall. Vaughn gets up and holds the stool in place before sitting but Josie then moves the stool back and forth with him on it. Professor Zachary turns around and witnesses the action in amazement, Vaughn is frightened seeing that nothing is there pushing him.
“No, no, no, no, no, no, don’t be. I mean, be sorry, but…” – Professor Zachary to Josie. Professor Zachary realizes that Josie has become a human magnet as he sticks a pen to her forearm. They explore ideas about what has happened to Josie, effectively confusing Vaughn in the process, and Corrine speaks of the black hole which makes Vaughn question what she said. Professor Zachary puts it off by saying that they will talk about it later. Josie tells them all that while what has happened to her may be fascinating, if they aren’t going to do anything she is going to leave. Professor Zachary advises against that. Josie is angered by the idea of her being watched and Professor Zachary’s pointer, which he is holding, flies out of his hands and attaches itself to Josie, stunning the two of them.
“I mean, hopefully this charge will just drain from you but until then it’s a…a good opportunity to…study you.” – Professor Zachary to Josie. Going up the stairs, Josie and Corrine encounter Madison and the other girl. They believe that Josie had something to do with what happened in the cafeteria and promise to make Josie’s life miserable. Josie gets back at them by using her power to cause doors to slam closed and lights to flicker, scaring the two girls. Corrine tells Josie that she has done enough but Josie can not seem to stop what is going on. Plants and pictures fall from their places and a fire extinguisher’s tube is turned upward at Madison and the other girl, spraying them.
“Could you not walk so close to me. My watch is going ballistic.” – Corrine to Josie.
Professor Zachary runs into the science room. He gets Josie to say that it was her who caused the situation in the upstairs hallway. She tells him that she doesn’t know how it got so out of hand. One minute she was angry and the next everything went nuts. As Professor Zachary tries to approach her, an electrical shock is transferred from Josie to Professor Zachary, knocking him to the floor. She tells him that she didn’t mean to do that. Still in a bit of alarm that she had done that, Professor Zachary tells her that she is becoming more magnetic as a result of the electrical charge in her becoming more polarized. It isn’t diminishing like he had predicted. Vaughn brings up the idea that it is too bad Josie can’t be grounded like the satellite dish at his house. Professor Zachary has Vaughn explain the idea. Vaughn tells them that the dish needs to be grounded to that if something like lightning strikes it, the dish won’t have its circuits fried. It occurs to him while saying this that the same will happen to Josie.
The problem with the idea is that the electrical current in Josie is scattered, not concentrated. Corrine brings up that the Jocoberator will be able to do the trick. With a magnetic fiend around Josie, they will be able to channel the energy out of Josie. Professor Zachary sends Vaughn off to get conduit cable and Corrine, Marshall, and Lucas to fetch the magnetic panels that they were using in the class earlier during the day.
“You know, having this power was so much fun. I could control everything, everyone. But now that it controls me, it’s not fun anymore.” – Josie to Professor Zachary. Principal Durst bursts into the room. She is furious and has now finally found Josie. Professor Zachary tries to stand between her and Josie but he is intimidated and cannot stand his ground. Principal Durst forces him to walk further and further back. She tells Josie to come with her and tries to venture closer to Josie but an electrical shock knocks Principal Durst to the floor.
“To what? Work this out with our words? Oh, yes, it is too late for that.” – Principal Durst to Professor Zachary. Principal Durst comes to with Professor Zachary, Vaughn, Marshall, Lucas, and Corrine standing over her. She doesn’t quite know what has happened. Professor Zachary compares it to when one receives a static shock after rubbing his or her feet on the rug. Professor Zachary recommends that Josie stay in the science room but Principal Durst continues to protest.
“That’s ridiculous. You can’t destroy a school hallway without disciplinary repercussions.” – Principal Durst to Josie. Vaughn comes into the argument by telling Principal Durst that he will be telling his dad about the problem and that the whole school could be destroyed because she failed to listen to Professor Zachary’s warning. The speech gets Principal Durst’s attention. She tells them all that they will be held responsible for anymore damage, especially Professor Zachary. She then turns to Vaughn and tells him that he is becoming quite like his father. She then walks out, leaving them with one hour to do what they have to do.
“Thanks.” – Josie to Vaughn. “I-I didn’t do it for you.” – Vaughn to Josie. “Fine, then I wasn’t thanking you." – Josie to Vaughn. Professor Zachary has them set up the experiment. He sends Vaughn out to connect the conduit wire to the fountain while Lucas and Marshall set up the panels and Corrine attaches all the wires.
“Ah, Professor Z, you know what you’re doing, right?” – Josie to Professor Zachary. “Yeah… I’ve just never done it before.” – Professor Zachary to Josie. Outside, Vaughn is finding that the wire is too short to reach the fountain. He struggles to pull the wire further but Madison walks up to him. He notices her purse which has a metal strap. Madison is thrilled that he noticed but is let down when he asks for it and removes the strap, handing the purse back to her. Vaughn then tells Madison to run away. Confused, she complies.
“Later, Madison! Hey, Madison, nice purse. Metal strap?” –Vaughn to Madison. In the science room, everything is set up. Josie is to stay between the panels. It will be the only safe place in the room. They all leave the room and Josie gets into position, turning on the Jocoberator. The energy drains from her, through the wire, and into the fountain with a minor explosion. They all come back into the classroom but find Josie is not there. They look where Josie should have been standing but find no trace of her.
“She can’t just be gone.” – Lucas. From the desk a row back, Josie pops up, startling them all. Josie is back to normal. With that, Professor Zachary gives her the task of cleaning up the science room and the upstairs hallway. The rest of them walk out while Josie tries to get them to help her.
“Friends help friends clean up!” – Josie.
Principal Durst is making an announcement as Marshall, Lucas, Corrine, and Josie walk into the cafeteria but there are no empty tables. Josie walks up to the table where Madison and the other girl are sitting, asking them if she can sit with them. The two girls abruptly get up and leave, giving Marshall, Lucas, and Corrine access to a table.
“Yesterday’s unfortunately events have been attributed to a freak lightning storm. There is nothing wrong at Blake Hosley High.” – Principal Durst. Outside, Vaughn catches up with his father who was at the school for an emergency meeting of the board.
“I was gonna drop in and see you, but I didn’t. Maybe next time.” – Victor to Vaughn. Victor asks Vaughn if he has anything to tell him since Victor heard Vaughn was involved in the situation the previous day. Vaughn tells his father that the science club made a mention about a black hole at the school. Victor seems like the news is normal, telling him “excellent” and “keep up the good work.” Victor then drives off.
“Maybe this weekend we can have dinner. It’s been a while.” – Victor to Vaughn.
