Marshall is making cell phones, which is helping to develop his college fund. He has developed a software where voice recognition converts a spoken line into an "emoticon", a smiley, basically. Tyler is his ticket to make sure the business takes off, but Tyler wants help on the Science mid-term. If Marshall doesn't help Tyler, Tyler will make sure Marshall's phones never sell. Marshall helps, but has second thoughts and goes to tell Professor Z. Before he can talk to Professor Z though, Tyler sends Marshall an emoticon saying not to tell anyone. Now, when Marshall talks, he can't speak understandably. Grading the tests, after pushing Marshall off, thinking he was playing with him, Professor Z figures out he and Tyler cheated on the test and goes to look for Marshall. Marshall tries to tell but is unable to speak or write comprehensibly. Professor Z figures out that Marshall isn't talking like that on purpose and with Lucas, Corrine, and Josie, they figure out that Tyler did something to cause Marshall to talk the way he is. Lucas finds out that the computer chip the cell phones use for their encryption program was made by Pearadyne. Heading back to Marshall's room to look at the site Marshall got the codes from; Principal Durst catches them and wants to talk to Professor Z and Marshall. She has already talked to Tyler, who told her that in exchange for Marshall's help on the test, Tyler would help Marshall spread the business of Marshall's cell phones. Principal Durst gives Marshall one hour to confess to what happened. Marshall is able to lead them to the site he got the codes off of and Corrine is able to reverse the encryption activated by Tyler. Marshall is able to tell Principal Durst the truth. Tyler is given a week of suspension and Marshall is given community service, tutoring others in science. She goes into her desk to return Marshall's cell phone but can't find it. Meanwhile, Victor talks to Grant; he has Marshall's and Tyler's cell phones and has modified the software chip for Victor's own use. He tells Grant to install it in all Pearadyne communications systems. Episode notes:
Another one of the "annoyance episodes" as I explained in my comments of "Ecosystems." It's an association thing, how one remembers information. We had trouble figuring where this episode was supposed to be placed before it aired in the UK. This episode screamed "I'm a filler episode!" but then at the end it showed Grant with Victor and that they have stolen the coding chip and everyone gasps because it was so unexpected that you'd put that in this episode. I don't know how to comment on it. It's not a bad thing to keep the audience on their toes, after all. Josie's irritation with the cell phones was random though. Rating: 6/10
