Corrine is complaining about how long an assignment is. Josie, however, is browsing through the newspaper. She points out that there is a movie playing about deep space phenomenon down the street. Corrine objects, telling Josie that leaving campus is against the rules. Josie tells her that Principal Durst is at a fund raiser, they can’t get caught. She adds that they could learn something about what is going on at the school. Corrine decides to go with Josie.
The next scene is them in Principal Durst’s office. They were caught. She is surprised at Corrine and tells both of them that she will be calling their parents. Corrine asks if that is really necessary, telling Principal Durst that her parents wouldn’t understand. Since it is Corrine’s first offense, Principal Durst tells them she’ll let them go with a warning. She threatens, though, that if they are caught breaking one more rule of any kind, it will go on their records.

“Did you really think you could get away with this?” – Principal Durst to Josie and Corrine.
“To be honest, yea. Who knew you liked documentaries and weren’t you supposed to be at a fund raiser?” – Principal Durst to Josie.

The next morning, Professor Zachary is talking to Victor in the science office about Vaughn’s progress. Victor wonders if Vaughn is progressing, to which Professor Zachary makes a shaky reply. Professor Zachary tells Victor that Vaughn is an excellent edition to the Science Club and is an enthusiastic problem solver. Victor interrupts, saying that he is assuming that is the “he’s progressing” part. On the other side, Professor Zachary tells Victor that Vaughn’s test scores are not improving. He asks if there are any problems at home that may be hindering Vaughn. Professor Zachary tries to clarify the question, asking if everything is alright between him and Vaughn. Victor emotionlessly replies that everything is fine. Professor Zachary continues by saying that some students are predisposed to self-motivation while others need a little push. Victor, however, interprets that poorly and threatens Professor Zachary’s job and then walks out.

“Ah, predisposed. Are you suggesting that it’s a genetic deficiency? … That it’s in my genes? Perhaps your genes, Professor Zackary are not predisposed to teaching.” – Victor to Professor Zachary.

Up in Josie and Corrine’s room, Josie is trying to help Corrine rationalize the guilt Corrine feels about getting caught and she shouldn’t let these little things ruin her life. Corrine tells Josie that is “the bad kid” who is expected to break the rules or fail a test. Corrine leaves for the library.

“I remember the first time I got busted. I freaked out, too. After the next few times.... The first time was in Kindergarten when I glued a piece of macaroni inside Jeffery Biederman’s nose.” – Josie to Corrine.

In Professor Zachary’s office, it doesn’t seem like his day is going very well after the conversation with Victor Pearson. He drops some papers off the front of his desk. Going to pick up the papers, the wormhole opens beneath him. Professor Zachary struggles to escape the wormhole’s grasp, pulling his head out of it.
Out in the halls, Vaughn in rubbing it into Corrine that she got in trouble the previous night. Corrine asks how his dad’s meeting with Professor Zachary went. Vaughn tells her that it didn’t go too well. He doesn’t believe his dad likes Professor Zachary very much. Just then, Professor Zachary runs out of his office, screaming about something on the floor. Vaughn and Corrine push him back into his office. He asks them if he knows them. Vaughn points to the floor. There are pencils and papers sticking out of the floor; they are merged with the floor. They realize that Professor Zachary must have been caught in the wormhole which leads Corrine to the conclusion that Professor Zachary has amnesia.

“So, heard you got busted with Josie, last night, alright!” – Vaughn to Corrine.

"Don't go in there. Swirly-sucky thing on floor." – Professor Zachary to Corrine and Vaughn.

Walking into the halls, Corrine and Vaughn explain to Professor Zachary that he is a teacher at the school. Principal Durst walks up, making sure Corrine is staying out of trouble. Professor Zachary whispers to Corrine, “Who’s she?” and Principal Durst asks him to repeat himself. Vaughn covers by saying that he said “Sushi” and that he had it for lunch. The three walk off, Corrine making Professor Zachary say to Principal Durst that he has class. Principal Durst looks at them with a shocked look.

“Great school. What am I doing here?” – Professor Zachary to Vaughn and Corrine.

Outside, Corrine and Vaughn fill in Lucas, Marshall, and Josie what is going on. Josie calls them over to the patio steps. Professor Zachary is playing guitar to his class. Principal Durst stops the demonstration, demanding to know what is going on. Josie and Lucas cover by saying that Professor Zachary was teaching about sound waves and vibration. She tells him that while she understands that his teaching method is unorthodox, but Blake Holsey High is an educational facility and that there will be no guitar playing for class demonstrations. She informs Professor Zachary that his 6 month teacher evaluation is coming up the next day and walks off.

“I can’t believe he plays guitar.” – Lucas.
“I can’t believe how many girls dig guitar players.” – Vaughn.
“I can’t believe how good he is.” – Josie.
“I can’t believe you’re not in class.” – Principal Durst.
“I can’t believe how much trouble I’m going to be in.” – Corrine.

In the science room, Josie, Corrine, Marshall, and Vaughn try to figure out how to get his memory back before the review. Professor Zachary is fascinated by a mobile of the solar system. Lucas tries hitting Professor Zachary on the head with a text book. Professor Zachary has a blank expression but is annoyed at Lucas for the action and goes back to the mobile. Lucas tells the rest of them that it worked on Gilligan's Island. Vaughn responds to that, saying it was a great episode. The conversations catches Professor Zachary’s attention and he tells them what occurred in that episode of the show. Marshall wonders why he would remember that of all things. Josie takes them all to talk with Corrine.
Corrine tells them that hitting someone on the head, like in, Gilligan's Island, doesn’t work like that in real life. Professor Zachary is in the middle of their circle, being spun around by each other them who need him for an example. Corrine explains the functions of portions of the brain, comparing it to a computer, focusing on “islands of memory” which are big events in one’s life that are remembered. The plan is that Josie and Vaughn will find things that will locate the islands of memory and they can work from there. Lucas and Marshall are to reteach Professor Zachary science in case they fail. Corrine, in an attempt to stay out of trouble, is going to stay in the rec room.

“You remember science, don’t you?” – Lucas to Professor Zachary.
“Yeah. I hate it.”– Professor Zachary.

In the science room, Lucas and Marshall attempt teaching Mendel’s experiments on pea plants. Professor Zachary doesn’t understand. Josie and Vaughn walk in with a box of things belonging to Professor Zachary. Vaughn pulls out a picture, which jogs Professor Zachary’s memory. From the picture, of a clown holding a small child, Professor Zachary tells them a story of when he was lost at the circus.

“There is no way that I’m giving him “the talk.” My dad had a hard enough time explaining it to me.” – Marshall to Lucas.

"That's me! Clowns are scary. I was 5 years old. I got lost at the circus. A woman told me everything was ok but her long black beard scared me." – Professor Zachary to Josie, Vaughn, Lucas, and Marshall.

Outside, they tell Corrine of their discovery. It is not enough to help Professor Zachary though. Josie concocts an idea of how to help Professor Zachary. Corrine stays out of it.
In the review, Professor Zachary sits in the middle of the room in front of three people, Principal Durst, Victor Pearson, and Mrs. McCubbin. He pulls out some index cards, which has his lines on them but he drops them on the floor. He goes to the floor to retrieve the cards but Principal Durst tells him to forget about the cards. Getting back up on the chair, Professor Zachary makes up a rather insufficient story about what his plan for the year is. Outside, looking in from a window behind the review board, Josie, Lucas, Marshall, and Vaughn see that Professor Zachary is in trouble.

“Good afternoon, Principal Pearson, Mr. Durst, and Mrs. McCubbin.” – Professor Zachary to the review board.

Corrine is walking up the steps. The janitor stands at the top of them. At the top, tells Corrine that she has to help Professor Zachary, even though it is against the rules. Only she can save him.

“We can’t afford to lose him…It’s your time. It’s up to you to keep Professor Z at this school.” – The janitor to Corrine.

Back to the review board, Professor Zachary is struggling to remember which college he graduated from. Josie holds up a pen, catching Professor Zachary’s line of vision. Professor Zachary confusedly says “Pen?” and Victor Pearson fills in the rest, assuming that Professor Zachary was talking about Penn State University which he also graduated from.

“I just remembered I graduated Magna Cum Laude. Go Quakers!” – Professor Zachary.

Victor then asks Professor Zachary what his doctoral dissertation is. Professor Zachary looks to the window where Marshall is pointing to his eye and then puts his hand on his other hand. Professor Zachary confusedly asks “eye-hand” but Marshall mouths the word “on.” That brings back Professor Zachary’s memory that his doctoral dissertation was in the modeling of ion implantation induced transient deactivation and diffusion processes in Boron. He then tries telling them about it but Victor stops him to move on to the next question.

“Yes. Perhaps we can discuss it over lunch some other time.” – Victor to Professor Zachary.

Victor then asks Professor Zachary why the board should let Professor Zachary stay at Blake Holsey High. Slowly, Professor Zachary replies that he does not know. Victor suddenly turns around, Josie, Lucas, Marshall, and Vaughn are caught.
Corrine comes down the stairs as Josie, Marshall, Lucas, and Vaughn walk into the building. Josie tells Corrine that they got caught and Corrine runs to the room where the review board is. As the review has ended, Corrine walks in. Principal Durst says that it is against the rules for such an action but Corrine insists that she must continue. Victor decides to hear what Corrine has to say. She tells the review board that Professor Zachary is really liked by the students and is always challenging the students to become better people. She brings up that Vaughn told her how angry he was with Professor Zachary after their meeting. Victor responds to her that after rethinking it, he understood that Professor Zachary only wanted what is best for Vaughn. He then asks her if Professor Zachary is that way with all of the students, to which Corrine replies yes. Standing up, Victor says that Professor Zachary’s term of teaching shall be extended and walks to the door, leaving Principal Durst and Mrs. McCubbin at the desk just looking at each other. After telling Professor Zachary that they will be keeping an eye on him, Victor walks out. Principal Durst reminds Corrine that she broke another rule but she is going to let it slide.

“One thing, I know I must like it here. I would like to stay.” – Professor Zachary to the review board.

“Then as far as I’m concerned, anything but extending Professor Z’s tenure here would be a grievous error. I’m sure we’re all in agreement.” – Victor.

In the science room, Professor Zachary tries to play the guitar but is unable to. Lucas is amazed that he actually learned and forgot how to play the guitar in one day. Going through Professor Zachary’s box of items, Josie pulls out another picture of Professor Zachary in a group picture of Pearadyne Industry employees. Professor Zachary tells them that he was just an intern there for a summer, just answering phones and things like that. In back of everyone, Lucas points out someone who resembles the janitor. From the hall, the janitor looks through the distorted glass window of the closed door to the science room, whistling the song that Professor Zachary was playing on the guitar while moping the floor.

“Hey, guys, isn’t that the janitor?” – Lucas.

    Episode notes:

    • Jeffrey Biederman, the kid who Josie said she glued a piece of macaroni up his nose, is a story writer in several episodes.
    • "Mitcho" is the name of the clown from Professor Zachary's story. This episode was directed by Mitchell T. Ness. The name was written in as a joke to him by Bruce Kalish, the executive producer. The clown is played by Chris (in charge of props).
    • The child in the picture is the son of Mitchell T. Ness, Tyler.
    Personal thoughts:
Here we explore Professor Zachary's past. Corrine's character is also focused on as she battles with following the rules. This brings the episode to have a "coming of age" story in it. Knowing when to overlook the rules is a vital lesson in functioning in society.
This is an episode where we see normal school function. Such episodes are important, I think, so we realize that students at Blake Holsey high really do have normal lives.
    Rating: 8/10

"Tide" - as I could hear it from the show as in the episode (not necessarily conforming to modified versions created after the episode aired):
    Call out a hark
    Is it all a lark?
    Will I leave my mark?
Cause sometimes life can seem so stark
    Tide! When everything is wrong!
And Tide! When you're feelin' strong! But that's been too long!
    It's been far to long!
