Murex
trunculus is
a gastropod who lives in eutrophical environment and specially in
coastal zones where bivalves are dying. It loves indeed putrefaction
and, so, it is fished in traps (here in the Bizerte lagoon)
where the bait is some putrefied meat.
That
fishing method is, to day, in Tunisia exactly the same as
the description done by Pline 2000 years ago.
