Srcgl. pensilis

I was surprised with this orchid winning a CCM. Fortunately, I had groomed it well before the show. Sarcoglyphis pensilis ‘Delight' CCM/AOS can be a challenge to grow well. Just when you think you have gotten it right, a leaf yellows or flower buds dry up. I grow the plant on a mount and keep it very well watered when roots grow and infloresences appear. Water quantity is critical as any withdrawal of water at this time results in aborted infloresences. When the plant is not growing, it is quite tolerant of dryness. I grow it warm at 70-75F by day or even warmer in summer. It loves warmth and responds with a fresh batch of blooms. Flowers individually last only a week but the plant flowers 2-3 times annually.
